  1. Stanley would fit right in with your Subes :-) Great pictures in front of the blank information board
  2. Ahhhh.....I wasn't working on Sunday night, then I was working on Sunday night and now I'm not working on Sunday night again!! I'm back to getting out there around 4pm/5pm again. See you all there.
  3. I'm trying to be able to get out there. My work wants me doing extra hours so it depends how quickly I can get done for them. Right now it looks like I won't be able to get out there till 3 or 4 pm. Which is still plenty of time to set up camp and hang out.

  4. Is there any doubt in anyones minds this is a 'dry' event? No Alcohol... Guns means safety. Means no Alcohol. I only mention that because I'm the person who originally brought up Alcohol. One of you mentioned back then that bringing alcohol might keep some people away and even though it's agreed we're not it's a shame that the mere mention of it has done that. Sorry. ----- Anyways. Looks like I won't be able to get up there till about 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Busy weekend at work. EDIT: Looks like it won't be happening for me this weekend, just got a revised work schedule and I'm probably on the clock till 9pm. DARN!!!! Twitch can you pm me a map or something so if I can get out there I can still meet up with you guys. I've just popped on new tie rods and I'm sure the suspension isn't up for rallying but it'd be fun to drive out and camp still.
  5. Had a tie rod break on me! The socket popped out on a low speed corner after about 2 mins of creaking noises as a warning. Replaced both and the lil' subes turning lighter, faster, sharper. Looked like the PO had tapped it back in and covered it with glue/sealant or something. $25 a tie rod new compared to $7 from the JY. Ball joints probably next thing to get changed. ^
  6. Hey,

    no problem at all.

Safety first though so it's fun and enjoyable.

I don't want to post that on the board because...well....because...

  7. Twitch, would the wires make a difference when the car was cold compared to hot? I'm having the same type of issues although after 5 mins of warming up he's fine. But the sputtering and coughing is there at the start.
  8. Hey Twitch, I was going to roller paint the sube' but Harbor Freight has HVLP guns for $15 and I've a nice neighbor whose willing to loan me a compressor... For a tiny bit more money and a lot less sanding and work I'm going to spray him. Just a heads up on an alternative cheap paint job.
  9. ohhhhhh HK's.... I'll be bringing my Beretta 92 for sure and a Glock or Sig or whatever I can muster between now and then. Awesome.
  10. I do like Spokane, but like 'girlwal' and others say there are towns just over the border in Idaho like Post Falls and CDA that are easily accessible from Spokane. Tax, living space, and the cost of gas is at least 10c cheaper in North Idaho. I make the drive from Spokane out to CDA every week in rush hour traffic and apart from the highway getting flooded 2 weeks ago it's an easy uncongested drive. Spokane is an easy place to commute around. The options for outdoor pursuits here are incredible. I think that's been said a dozen times already. Crime in Spk, is mostly petty drug related stuff, smash and grabs and small thefts etc. (I've seen stat's on it, but can't remember the address for the FBI (?) records site) Violent crime isn't that high maybe because the CCW laws are fair and everyone here I know is armed!! Your spoiled for hunting as well.
  11. I've been in and out of the Junk yards all week. I'll take a lot at the tires on the next trip out. Firearms YAY:banana: Cool beans. 19th works for me.
  12. Diversity in Spokane is .....well....there isn't any..there really isn't. Diversity comes in the form of who will you see throwing a sign today, begging for money at a stop light and the age old question of, 'Is it a meth head or a crack head'?... I cringe sometimes at the billboards advocating XYZ around here. I'm shocked easily by dogmatisim. There is an arts scene but you've got to look for it....lot's of local artists and artisans (incl' wine/beer/cheeses etc). A lot of people say there's nothing to do here but I've got IceSkating, Go Karting, wildwalls rock climbing, paintballing, independent cinema's, shooting/archery ranges, several concert and theater venues etc etc...and that's all before you take a look at any of the Parks within a short drive. A local bar to me is a great bar but the next bar down the road everyone looks at you like they want to stab you and @$ your girl or stab your girl and...there's a lot of good and bad here. I've heard people say Seattle has a much hipper vibe though. No doubt. But cost of living here does seem cheap. We also have pull n save and a pick n pull. Most of the restaruants I've been to seriously suck...but we have the Rocket bakery and coffee shops that are great. We've an REI outdoor shop, awesome place.... More pawn shops than could ever make sense and a bikini expresso drive thru!!! Cost of housing is even cheaper up in Deer Park.. an easy 20 min drive north of Spokane.
  13. Sunday/Monday works better for me too. The tequila can stay at home.... What about firearms and explosives? The lil' red Suby should be all shiny with new paint by the 18th so it'll be a Christening taking him out into the muddy woods.
  14. oh if this turns into camping I'd rather know before hand so I can bring tequila, firewood and food.
  15. rather a Sunday then for me. If we do camp we can do valve jobs in the morning for anyone who brought gaskets...and a drain pan incase of oil... Of course we can also make morning breakfast bread and pancakes... Expecting cries of, "Bacon, Bacon, Bacon"...... I'm up for all of it..but I have work scheduling to work around..
  16. Mid june is right around the corner...so lets keep the ball rolling...
  17. Still getting her in shape but would def' want to take her out on some mild, easy, no crawling, tame, trails..... The roads of Spokane are rough enough and made it obvious she needs a set of shocks.
  18. Sweet ride. The same as what I just got my hands on. I got brand new tires ,Hankooks, on mine! I've also got the grinding on the rear drums.. Cool buy.
  19. Thank you everyone for your input. She got drove about last night for about an hour with everything smooth and peachy. Totally different feeling car, lots more power and so much smoother. I'll heed your advice Dirk, GD, Rice. I'll let her run for another week or two then I'm going to change the oil again. I'll try the ATF fluid next time as a cleaner. The oil that came out was dirty enough to warrant another change soon. O'Reileys have an oil special going so it's about $16 for everything, no reason not to do it a few more times. Here are some shots of the valve covers and the heads themselves... By the time I took these pic's I'd cleaned them off a bit but you can still see some of the big lumps of crud.
  20. Well job done. Dirk, Thanks so much for posting the how to. I followed a haynes manual and it's the same procedure you posted just not explained nearly as well. There was a lot of build up of crud in there. To get the pushrod back on I placed a C clamp between the battery tray and the engine block and then used a long flat head screw driver to compress the spring and slip the pushrod back under. The spring took a lot of force to shift...so I suspect it was stuck...or some of the crud was messing up it's compression. I cleaned the area with carb cleaner and PB blaster and turned the engine by hand a few times so I could squeeze out more of the stuff between the spring coils. Everything seemed fine with the stroke and movement of the valve/rocker arm. I was unable to get a 7/32 wrench (or anything else) to move the adjustment nut on the troublesome valve. But the clearance was right. I adjusted the rest of the valves. I then used GUNK engine flush to clean out more crud and gave her a fresh oil change. First impressions without driving her... Smoother for sure. Fires up easier. Also I hadn't reattached the heat pipe that goes to the air filter and she was blowing smoke...but it smelt like carbon being burnt off smoke...(How would I know!!!)....So I think the number one chamber had been full of desposits from inefficent combustion and they were now getting burned out. I added some, RESTORE to the oil and some additive thats supposed to free sticky valves/springs etc. Currently draining the gear oil. Considering how well she sounds....I'll let the owner take her out for her maiden voyage later. General disorder...your right about the crud hence the steps I took. I think that's the culprit and not a worn cam. After hearing her running there's no loping. She had been sat for a long time before I got my hands on her I think that had something to do with the crud. Thanks.
  21. Hello, quick post because I've got to hit the store to buy a tiny iddy biddy wrench for the valves..less than a 1/4 inch!! Car in question. 1980 E71 4 speed 4 WD GL Wagon. So embarking on valve job I notice this.. Shouldn't that be connected to something? It was number one intake valve. Explains why that plug was so clean and the others normally fouled. Here's another shot of the pushrod.. So how does that even happen? Also anyone point me to a walk through on the valve adjustment, please? On 1 & 3 side you can hear air escaping when the engines turned over using a socket on the crank... On 2 & 4 side the valve cover was thick with crud and almost clogging the PCV hose. There's significant play in 3 of the valves when there at TDC the rocker arm will lift even higher...does this explain the cruddy oil buildup? Thanks, I wanted to post this quickly in hope of getting some pointers before tomorrow when I intend to get the valves adjusted.
  22. Thanks. I'm going to be doing a paint job on the Suby soon. Going the "$50 rustoleum" route. Have you looked into that?? I can't justify spending the money on a cheap paint job so going to go ultra cheap. Plus it'll be practice for my other car which'll be getting the same treatment. Your right, I will start a thread so others can watch the progress.
