'80-'84 part numbers
Dwayne Oxford replied to Dwayne Oxford's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mine all are above the L kick panel, above/beside the hood pull and fuse box. I'm just needing to take it off the coil to see if it's killing my distributor module. I could totally bypass it but I think it's got another safety besides the module pulse. Guess I need to start another thread? -

That did no better. Removing instrument cluster to disconnect tach to see if that helps. -

Still having issues. Hasn't totally quit yet but glitches badly at hi RPM when hot. Trying another fuel pump control module/relay today. -

Thanky, THANKY mkoch I installed Standard "Blue Streak" FD471 coil, as it measured the resistance ranges the '82 FSM specifies for the Hitachi distributor. Also installed a 1.5 ohm resistor off an '81 donor unit. I'll update this as/if needed. -

THANX!! THINK I got it figgerd out. The 42988-7310 is the Hitachi coil, Hitachi CIT-79 in '82 FSM. NEEDS external resistor. MAYBE now I can quit killing the module. -

Needing PNs for Hitachi ignition module and coil. Coil resistances different from Nippondenso coils, which I have several of. -
Anybody know how/where to find them? Dealers listings don't include them any more.

Have nothing to check secondary voltage. Spoke with Wells(WVE) tech yesterday who said that the primary resistance is what kills modules. How does the secondary kill them? The '82 FSM specifies Hitachi coil CIT-79, primary resistance 1.04-1.27 OHMs, secondary 7,360-11,040. Their replacement coil is WVE 5C1138 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=937080&cc=1268311&jsn=356 One I'm running is 1.4, 14,080 Have 2 loose, 1.4, 9,690 and 1.2, 13,520

Fuel pump relay location
Dwayne Oxford replied to Turbone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Been sitting couple months, wanted to prime carb by powering up the pump at unplugged module connector, couldn't figger how. With keyswitch on there's already power to the Blue/red wire. Anybody got any ideas? -

New 1984 Subaru GL owner needs help
Dwayne Oxford replied to JFN1989's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Look at the relays on R fender to see if maybe been mis-connected. Have someone work the light switch as you feel each relay to find the one that works with the lights. My newest FSM is '82 so I'm guessing they are about same. I do have the Mitchell wiring manual for '84 but they don't do very well on relay locations. The fan wire should be blue w/red stripe, it's relay will also have a blue, a yellow and a blue w/black stripe jumper to next relay -
Seems dealers parts lookup now only goes back to '85. Anybody know if there's parts pdf's one can download to get parts numbers? Right now I'm needing the bypass hose for the water pump for '83 1.8. Parts guy at Nashville, TN said if I could get it's number they might be able to get it. OEM Subaru rubber is 2nd to none, WAY superior to after market.

Finally took time to take apart a pump and the little fellow has a miserable circuit board in it and all's polyurethane foamed up inside. Parts house pump is $40. Anybody know what'll dissolve the foam and not kill the board? Got a good radio man here who knows what all the li'l gizmos on boards are. My li'l '85 Nissan truck and my gas Onan generator have a similar elec. pump but they're cylindrical and I think they dont have boards. Never had one of them quit.
