  1. Don't sweat it, my son's headlight problem (after I drove all the way back to him) was not knowing he had to rotate the headlight switch. =) This is a kid I have seen pull a transmission but had never encountered a headlight switch on a lever.
  2. Got it, thanks again everybody, I truly appreciate it.
  3. Hey everybody, I searched first and found some possible answers but I wanted to ask the experts. I bought a 93 Loyale FWD for my son. So far I have replaced both front axles, brake pads and rotors and bearings. She drives great although I still have a knocking in the front dif area but that is not why I am writing this. His headlights were only working on high beam so I thought - well it may be possible that both low beam filaments are out but this morning the high beams would turn on either then 15 seconds after start up came on. Is this the relay? The sockets? Does anybody have a best place to start suggestion? By the way, I also put on new tires and it suddenly had severe torque steer. I took it back and told the kid working there the tire was defective off the rack, he didn't believe me so I let him drive it, then had him swap the front tires and magically the torque pull switched sides. He started to try to explain how, through the manufacturing of radials, this is totally natural and that we just needed to swap the front tires to the back...Right before I was about to lose it the manager came outside, took out his pocket knife and jammed the side of the bad tire. He then said oh, looks like you have some road damage, we will replace it right away. He then chewed the kid out as they walked in the shop. Geeze.
  4. Just returned from out of town, thanks - I will check that.
  5. Its the strangest thing. I can listen to the stock stereo until I have the floor or vent heater running. Once its warm inside it cuts out. It stays on longer if I leave the heater on defrost. Anybody ever have this before?
  6. That is great info to know thanks!. If I would not lose on mileage but gain on drivability then that is good enough for me. It feels like I am driving with an engine the size of a sewing machine. 0-65 in 30 seconds (may be exaggerating but not by much.)
  7. I am driving my 86 wagon with the stock Hitachi carb 100 miles total each day. Up and down long hills, 89 octane (sometimes 87) and keeping it at 65. My average gas mileage is 24 MPG. Would a weber improve this at all? I seemed to have read that it helps on the low end and with mileage. If it does, how much? Thanks for any input you can provide.
  8. Well, I don't know about all of the EA82 versus everything else BUT I think I have one in my 86 that with what my 86 cost plus tires and a battery - 13,000 miles and running so far. Gotta love that. I bet I could take it 10,000 miles right now. (With spare belts.) Now my 99, tons more power, seats still underpadded seats but more room, fuel injected, 15 inch rather than 13 inch tires. Blew a headgasket outside Billings, drove another 50 miles (had to to get cell service) then car died after smoking SUPER bad. Replaced headgasket - good as new. They are both good engines. My 86 though is easier to work on so far.
  9. I have been commuting 112 miles over hills in my 86. I average 25. I sure wish it was injected, that would probably make a huge difference. I know it sounds small but check your tires pressure and keep the filters changed and the oil. I actually hit between 25-27. Depends on the wind. I think you have 1.9 gallons left once the light comes on.
  10. Well I ran out of dough so I used Valvoline, glad I did the job though, the bolt was just a tad more than hand tight and leaking plus is was con-caved or dished and had a metal gray slurry all over it. I am assuming its magnetic.
  11. Thank you. I think it may have had ac once because the pulleys have the 2 grooves but now just one belt. There is no mechanical fan, just a full time electric fan. I will send a pick as soon as I can figure out how to. Thanks.
  12. Days like today make me appreciate the mechanical simplicity of my 68 Chevy pickup that can pass anything but a gas station hence the need for the soobie - commuting and fishing and driving in snow and going off-road and.......They are like the leatherman of cars.
  13. Dumb question, I saw your picture of deleting the e-brake and don't recognize the assembly. Could one just kill the cable and dis-connect it or is the e-brake integrated into the piston somehow preventing this?
  14. I OWE YOU BIG!!!! So I do pull the console. Thank you! I was considering doing the same and just disconnecting it. If it hasn't been fulling releasing then a warped rotor is definitely possible. (There were a couple scorch marks.)That used to be a big deal and I would have them turned but now they are pretty cheap - for most vehicles, I don't know what new rotors will run me on this though.
  15. This issue has been driving me crazy. I have a sound almost like something scraping the dust shield once per rotation of the tire on my right front side. Redid the brakes and it went well, lubed everything. The sound is still there. If I am driving down the road and apply the brakes it would stop so I replaced the brakes, nothing. I don't know what it is. What I really need help with is adjusting my front parking brake. Do I diss-assemble the interior console? I am asking because I know they are not fully releasing and I cleaned and lubed everything before installing new pads. I just want to back it off a little but cannot figure out how. Anyway help will really save me, thanks. (Can't find it by searching.) As for the other noise, it also goes away while pushing the clutch while moving so who knows what it is. Applying brakes in motion stops it and so does pushing in the clutch while moving. It goes away at a constant speed but comes back when I accelerate. Maybe a throw-out bearing. I am not smart enough to know. Thanks for any info you can provide, really.
  16. I didn't know that, thanks. I only have one fan on this 1.8. Is that standard?
  17. Cool, thanks. Funny thing was that he complained that it takes a little while to warm up! =)
