  1. Here's my 2 cents. I do all my own work on my cars. When someone comes to me with a problem like this I have em park it in the dirt and make sure the master cylinder is full. Then just start the car and pump the brakes until you see a drip running down the inside of one of the tires or the bottom of the master cylinder. If that don't work, keep pumping for like 5 minutes and see if you can find the leak. Perhaps you twisted or stretched a line when you did the pads (I always try to set the loose calipers on top of the rotor). Or maybe what some of the other guys said is right about damaging a caliper. Hope this helps
  2. If the chirping is speed related (Ie-speeds up as you speed up and slows when you slow) I would say it is your brake pads rubbing loosely rubbing a rotor. On my 2000 Outback limited it chirped real loud. I then took apart the rear brake assembly and lubed the brake guides (don't lube ANYTHING if you don't know what i'm talking about). It then went away, only to return after a couple months. Maybe suby made a poor design?
  3. Dextron 3 is the probably the best tranny fluid to use(better than dextron 2). Make sure you have enough fresh fluid for a full flush, or your car available to go to the parts store in case you need more. Mine took over a gallon...but now I forget how much...Hope it goes well!
  4. I don't know about the Max Pressure thing...maybe you would increase for heavy loads (ie trailer...???). In your owners manual or in the door jamb there should be a sticker that tells you the correct pressure for the front and rear. My Legacy takes 29 for pressure...and the tires look like they need air, but they don't. I think your dad must wear his tires out prematurely, as overinflated tires wear much faster in the center of the tread. On the other hand underinflated (IE 20psi) will also wear irregularly. Ultimately, following the standard spec will improve your tires rate of wear, and your vehicles handling and gas mileage. IF I were you, i'd just inflate my tires to the recommended spec. and not tell my dad. Go for it! Be a rebel!
  5. I just got a 2000 Legacy Outback Ltd. w/ 100k. Recently the engine light came on, and I had the boys at Autozone check the code. It came up as a 483 "Cooling Fan rationality Check Malfunction". The fans spin well when I idle it with the A/C on. I have kept my eye on the temp. guage and it is steady in the center(safe). What could it be wrong? The fans physically spin with A/C on, as well as when the temp is too high. The real question is: Should i put a yellow Smiley sticker over the light? Your help is appreciated. Thanks!
