She is Home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great! She is pretty! I am so glad the weather cooperated... it's been like a hurricane here all day, rain and high winds, I was concerned that the storm was more widespread.

Fiberglass Parts
I ordered the parts from http://www.autopartsland.com and received an email that the left fender was "backordered". They have shipped the hood and right fender and I should receive them on Wednesday. The shipment weight was 90 lbs. and is coming via DHL to a commercial address which is usually cheaper than residential delivery. It's a little unnerving that they are very secretive with their phone number... all contact is through email, even the DHL shipping confirmation carries a phone number of (999) 999-9999. I did pay with a credit card so any problems will be resolved through my CC company. I scoured the internet looking for the left front fender... every place I called said "it's been discontinued". Huh? Why make a hood and right fender and discontinue the left? I'll let you know quality etc. when I receive them.

Heaven forbid what have I gotten myself into!!
They run either unleaded or leaded... the filler neck is large so the leaded nozzle fit... that was when the switchover was happening and both were available at the pumps... I always ran leaded because it was cheaper and I was really poor

Welcome to MY world Skip! It's a dark and lonely place... even professional mechanics dare not enter!

Sliding Window '86 Brat
Is there any other sliding rear window for an '86 Brat that opens in the middle like most others? The one I have opens from the outside passenger side and stops just beyond the headrest... it's silly.

sticky wheel in 4wd
Todd's right. A good set of rules is: Never drive on dry pavement in 4WD for any distance. Never engage 4WD while cornering. Never engage 4WD over 50 mph. ABOVE ALL! Be sure all 4 tires are matched for size! (My opinion is have matched tread too! Rotate your spare.) If you lock up, back up until it feels loose take it out of 4WD and you should be good.

It was nsantos23's (Neo). We met him at Paul's Saturday... we missed you not being there. My 6 year old grandson picked the color...WRBlue... it'll probably be his in 10 years anyway. Done.

Whats What with these old Subarus ????
Cardineau, I just got an '86, so whatever info you can scare up, please share. I also have a Gen1 Brat that was a mechanical nightmare, I learned a lot... but this is a 'nother whole can o' worms, but it looks easier to figure out for some reason Luckily, this Brat is in great shape mechanically, runs sweet, the body needs to be restored.

Fiberglass Parts
Skip, I called Mill Supply today... no fenders or hoods. I did hear from autopartsland.com and found the answers. The parts are exact replicas of the original parts and made in Taiwan from the same material. In short, the hood is steel the fenders are steel. All the better... I was psyched! They only gave me a lump sum for shipping, I did have a hood in the order so, I imagine that took up a goodly chunk of the total. The order came to around $167. and the shipping was $147.00 or so... for 2 fenders, a H/L door and a hood. I cancelled the order, when I looked back and realized it wasn't a door skin, it's a Head Lamp door... don't make that mistake! I will place it again tonight and let you know.

Replacement body parts are an important part of restoration for any year.

Color Suggestions?
Here's the '86. Still deciding on color. It was originally Imperial Red. Not my favorite. Waht do you think of WRBlue? The interior is tan. I also just added some pics of the '78's new interior and Tim's 1950 F-1 project truck to my gallery, the link is below...

The terms of sale and shipping charge policy are the same too. I assume they all buy from/or are, the same supplier and need to keep pricing competitive with each other because it is only one quality... not like Sony vs. Emerson or Goldstar for electronics.

Fiberglass Parts
After a quick search, the prices can only be for fiberglass, I don't think they produce steel parts for the old subes anymore. Steel fenders fetch about 4 times the price. It would be preferrable if they were steel, but fiberglass will work and never rust. I saw several websites offering the fenders only, the fenders were comparable pricing, altho those sites typically charge $15.00 more for the driver's side. Those sites did have pictures and they are black fiberglass.

Fiberglass Parts
I believe they are raw black fiberglassand need primer and paint. They don't have a phone number, so I'll be the guinea pig and order the fenders and hood let you know. They quote shipping by email on a per order basis. These are pretty small and lightweight so I doubt it'll be horrendously expensive. Tim had 4 fiberglass fenders for his 1950 F-1 truck shipped here and each one is bigger than whole the front end of the brat!

Fiberglass Parts
They also have hoods, doors, bumpers and bumper covers. I need a new rear bumper cover too one of the rubber blocks is gone.

Sidesteps
Oh, that's wonderful! This Brat had them at one point. So, I think everything behind the rocker is intact, they just covered the receiver holes. We were planning on cutting the bondo out and adding them back... they add a nice character to the body style. PM with price and shipping. I'm going to try and make this one look like a kids' R/C car. It'll be a fun project! Is it possible to do a small, 3-4" lift without changing the suspension parts, like axles, struts, shocks... etc.? This Brat also has signs of where the seats were welded and cut out.

Fiberglass Parts
Oh, they make them, and cheap! Here's the link: http://www.autopartsland.com/productlist.cfm?model_id=353&keywords=Fender&make_id=35&search_on=description&browse=true I'm not sure of the fit? I'll know soon enough, I'll call them tomorrow about it

Sidesteps
So someone bondoed over the sidesteps in this '86. After looking at a zillion pictures, the '85's all seem to have had them. Only a few '86s had them. Were they an option? This Brat was built 5/86. I hope I posted this in the right forum.

Early Gen 1 Brat GL series Q&A
The early '78s were pretty basic, quad lights, no tach. They were only available here in white/multicolor stripes, blue interior. About half-way through '78 they offered some options, and different colors, the dealers here called them '78 1/2. Whether it was unique to this area is unknown, it's a real possibility that it was a sales tactic.

Fiberglass Parts
Does anyone have any experience with fiberglass parts? I just got an '86 Brat that I'm redoing non-stock. I'm pretty fussy, so I've decided to replace the front fenders, hood and one door. What's the consensus of fiberglass repros? Unfortunately, there is no picture for the items.

*World Event*! Vintage Subaru Meet! 1968-1989 Subarus
We just got back from Paul's. He's making headway at this point, I wish we coud have stayed longer, but the trailer had to be returned by 7:00... the rain and fog was horrendous coming back. We were late, but were able to get in to park it There's at least a Brat/Fordful of parts he won't have to move

Guess what followed us home!
Neo's '86 Brat. We met him at Moosens and towed it home. Paul stuffed the bed with pieces parts, doo dads and anything else that would fit it and the '78! It'll be like Christmas going through all the boxes and things. Now I have the complete set... GenI, II and III. It has pugs and will get a 3" lift. Needs paint... 2-tone WRBlue/silver rockers and decals? Viper red? The interior is tan so not sure of the silver. What do you think?
