  1. haha theres an idea! struts alone probably gave me 1.5 or 2 inches, then the bigger tires gave me at least another inch. looking to maybe make some half inch spacers or something to pick up the rear from sagging. since it has a 4at and the awd is actually 90% torque in the front most of the time, im going to do the solenoid bypass mod to install a switch that makes it close to a 50/50 split for when im rallyin on back roads or in deep snow. originally saw on a forester forum but a good thread is here
  2. hey everybody my name is gordon im 21 and i go to school at ithaca college in new york but i live in vermont. have been lurking on this forum for a while but finally got some outback struts in my 98 legacy wagon and scored some forester wheels on craigslist so i have been goin wheeling in some nearby state lands. need to get some action shots but here she is http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/641/img0024ztj.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/441/img0032sy.jpg/ now i have four lights on the front. im thinking of a new muffler and maybe a skidplate or push bar if i can find something at a junkyard any suggestions on some loud mufflers that i can slip on and clamp without having to weld?
  3. 98 legacy on outback struts and forester wheels http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/641/img0024ztj.jpg/
  4. just did this and it kinda helped getting the nut off the top of the strut. vice grips on a 17 mm socket with the allen going through it
  5. ok thanks for the support guys. i may be calling it a night but i will get back at it tomorrow and hopefully it goes well. as for the sway bar, does it have to go back on when i get the new struts in? i think ive heard of people ditching their sway bars is that a bad idea?
  6. Im putting outback struts into my 98 legacy and when i went to put the new assembly back it would fit and seemed to be too long. obviously the outback strut is taller, but what do i do to squeeze it into the space for the old, shorter strut?
  7. im trying to put some damn outback struts into my legacy. i started in the rear, but when i went to put the new assembly back in it was too long to fit above the trailing arm. i know the outback strut is taller (duhh, thats why im putting them in) but right now it seems too tall for me to fit back onto the hub. is there anything im missing here? im pretty damn sure the spring is positioned correctly but i dont see any way of me fitting this ************in thing on here.
  8. i want to start by getting some kyb forester or outback struts. do i need any new mounting hardware or can i throw them right on
