  1. Sorry to hear your bubble burst. I test drove the 05 obw na and thought it drove like a pig but still considered it because of creature comforts. In the end I chose to keep my Forester until I could shell out the bucks for a ta-ta-ta-thhhurbo. Your car is nice don't be disappointed. It is by far the coolest looking Subie ever built. d.
  2. Yes please come out and play. There are some of us who like the looks of the B9. If you have seen my car then you can tell I'm not hung up on cosmetics anyway. Really if I wanted a sharp looking car then I would have bought an Audi or a Volvo or a Magnum. I think B9 is a step in the right direction to keep Subaru competitive in the market. Its time we hear how these things drive and feel. d.
  3. It probably helps some but we recently had to put on some straight metal after a cottonwood blew down and squashed a door and poked in a rear quarter panel.
  4. Recently took a trip from the middle of NM to northern WY. We rolled up I-25 at a minimum of 80 mph with the WY part being 85+. All of the elevation along the way was 4000 ft+ and the temps were hot enough to require AC. We used whatever was cheapest at the pump and got 26.96 mpg (were calling it 27). This was with 2 adults and a little one and enough gear to block the rear view. We was also traveling with a Tahoe (14 mpg) and a Suburban (14.8 mpg).
  5. It's close to nearly double. The nice thing about having a diesel is you can run 1/3 longer befor it has to be torn down and inspected.
  6. The altitude limits are set at a point where the engine can be restarted without descending. A diesel needs lots of air to start. There are some turbos that are electrically driven so they can produce enough boost to start at higher altitude.
  7. Here is the engine. http://www.smaengines.com/enginesr.htm#technical Too bad its a 4 stroke.
  8. Ok its really a plane and they swapped out the turbo for a supercharger but it still posts some good numbers. Actually if you look at some of the stats of the 2.5 engines compared to other aircraft engines you will be surprised. As for the supercharger on a subie its really a safety issue as opposed to a power one. Here is the link to the page with the sti plane. you'll have to look on the left side of the page for the sti. http://www.eggenfellneraircraft.com/buildercorner/indexframe.html
  9. We should compare barren deserts sometime. Mine has cool mountains and awesome arryos. There are plenty of hills I can't get to the top of and many that I can. There is too much fun stuff for my subie to even care about $4/gallon. What's your elevation? I'm pretty low for this state at 4800.
  10. This argument gets used over and over and it's still is good for a few laughs. You ever been to a museum of natural history. Oh wait its all rubish. Fossils are merely intelligently designed rocks. I guess it really doesn't matter where we came from or where were going. I just hope Hell really is a baren desert and gas is cheap:banana: .
  11. Well said. I did the floss thing last night and wow! I have wanted that stupid Galles and Davis plastic piece of crap off my car since I bought it. I'm kinda lazy so I might try a grinder to get the glue off but I'm getting a little off topic here. How can a person possibly believe in a science that has been built upon by hundreds of thousands peer revieved papers from all over the world written by people from all religions, working in all the science branches. I mean come on its just got to be one big conspiracy. Call Oliver Stone! We got a movie here.
  12. Too much. Find a turbo car and use it. It will be cheaper than engine rebuild, ecu and harnesses. Also I think the turbo cars come with special scotchguarded seats. It makes them easier to clean. d.
  13. All of the vehicles I have ever owned dropped ave mpg in the winter when I was using it to drive to work. Its the warm up phase. I only have to go 4 miles to work so the car barely gets warm when the temp drops below freezing. My Fraud Ranger goes down to 14 sometimes. I havn't noticed any difference on the highway. d.
  14. It should be internal. I've never done this on a subie but its internal on all the other brands and easy to change. I've never changed a ford since a transmission swap usually happens befor its time to change the oil. d.
  15. Because Subaru knows there is a subset of owners who like to tourture their cars:D . I wish there was a better resolution to your problems but maybe its your mechanic/dealer. They are all different. d.
  16. Got a full welding shop in my garage and my mechanic owes me $700. If I break it I'll fix it.
  17. I do know that th HP falls off in the upper rpm's but doesn't it give an advantage to the next gear to go into the higher rpm's.
  18. I'm not saying that this is a junk car its just that it has been honestly rallied for the last 8000 miles. Right now I found a hill that I think I can gap the top. I'm removing rocks from the from the transition and will hopefully get some rain on thursday to solidify the sand so I can get top speed in 2nd. If I can get all 4 up then I'll get someone to make a movie. I know if I would have bought any other car it would have been on a trailer by know with a busted........Just take a gander under a mazda or honda and notice all the extra junk (important stuff) that hangs down. Oh yeah, get this. My wife and I have come to the conclusion that if we tear this car up then we'll know the limitations of the XT (yeah baby) when we get one.
  19. The heat shields rattle if I do some heavy deceleration like in 1st gear. What I'm hearing is more like an internal sound. Oh well I'll finish tearing out all the non essential stuff from underneath and then build some real skid plates and shields. The setlement wasn't a total. It was about $600 more to total it but I got a fat check anyway. The funny thing is is that even if my car would have been totaled the salvage buyback would have been a min of $6800. The drivetrain is one spendy unit, I guess. My goal right now is to tear up the yokahama's in the next 5-10 thousand miles. Can you say autocross. d.
  20. Well since my Forester has been hailed out I can't tell you haw much fun it has been. On a weekly basis I go hill climbing/diving, drag racing and off roading. It has been around road closures, up deep muddy mountain sides, 4 up at the RR crossing (about 30X) and just generally flogged like a step child. I am really impressed that it has lasted 12,000 miles. I regularly run it up to 6000 rpm (fully warmed) and sometimes I let it go to the red line. I can't imagine how this has happened but I can hear some noise from under the hood when letting off the gas (above 3000). It sounds like it is concentrated in the exhaust manifolds but I don't really know. I think that the motor is finally broke in but is this something I should be worried about. d.
