  1. my idle goes up then cuts down only when I apply a little bit of throttle. (1000-1500) but if I don't keep a bit of throttle while coming to a stop the rpm's drop so fast it kills it. when the engine is cold it won't idle at all though. when warm it will idle sometimes, sometimes it won't and will die on me.
  2. I've done nearly the exact steps as you. but one thing I noticed awhile ago was that if I jiggled the wire harness all around and found the "sweet spot", my idle would go back to normal. eventually this lost its effectiveness, like the wires had a weak connection. so I replaced the wire harness from the junkyard but nothing changed.
  3. mines doing the same exact thing. subscribed.
  4. tryin to make it to 250,000 miles bfore the rebuild, only 4000 more miles!
  5. To check it you line up the timing marks (not the ignition timing) on the flywheel. then make sure the cam dots are facing up correct? I can't hear any leaks. but if the timing slipped since I last checked it I'll get a spray bottle with soapy water in it and spray her down. It does chug a bit at idle when it's cold. I smelt the white smoke the other day and it smells just like soy sauce! haha! Is that what a head-gasket smells like?????? I've look for cracks visually and not seen any . . . It wasn't wet just had a green tint. It looked like the green was power-coated on . . . I'm hoping me rebuilding it doesn't change my mileage!!!!! It would smoke all the time though wouldn't it?
  6. Sorry I havn't been on here in a bit! I had to work last weekend. I have feeler gauges! Coolant has been changed before. It's nice and green. Maybe it has been well maintained and not over-heated?? (Or maybe that's why it's green . . .) Where's the best place to get heads if there bad? Junk-yard? Well I definitely want to rebuild it if I can get another 100,000 or more out of it for $500-$700! I checked the plugs and number 2 (pass-side front plug) had kind-of a greenish tint. But nothing crazy. I looked at the pistons with plugs out and all of them looked like they had a brown coating on them :-\ The valve in #2 looked like it had a light coating of grey on it? (it was the only one I could see though) Mine does the same thing with the blinkers, and the voltage drops haha!
  7. Alright. I'll probably order a ring kit just incase and send it back if need be. And you measure the rings by an electronic dial gauge or what? (Sorry for my lack of knowledge)
  8. It's N/A. So EA81 headbolts are a better choice to go with than EA82 headbolts?
  9. Huh! Maybe it is something crazy like that My fuel pump is very noisy. I don't know if that's normal for a Loyale or not?
  10. Maybe one of those mid air re-fuelers gave me a visit??
  11. Yeah I was using the PSI side. I thought a crack between the intake and exhaust valves was normal on the EA82's? Well at least I'll have something to do this weekend!! I'll check plugs and see what they look like. Then take exhaust off if there not fouled!
  12. Well today I figured out at least some of my coolant leak . . . hose clamps were loose:banghead: so now we'll see how much I lose now. and the "smoke" (more like a fog) continues to get worse . . . the "smoke" covered the back of my car and the car next to me! It's almost got as much smoke as my Dodge! . . .
  13. Alright I'll check! Google maps says it's 100 miles from Cheyenne, WY to where I filled up in Arvada, CO. and I put 1.915 gallons of fuel in her. (my odometer said 101) But I will defiantly check! haha! the booklet on my Loyale says Subaru designed the car to have very little drag . . . . . . . . yyeaaahh . . . Do you think at 243k it would need rings if the engine was taken care of? My 1st gen Cummins has 202,000 on it!
  14. By dividing the miles since last fill-up by the gallons of fuel I've filled it up with. My girlfriend even added it up because we couldn't believe! I went 686 miles on 1 and 1/4 tank of fuel. (48MPG) then went to Cheyenne I'll pull out the receipts if needed and got 53MPG. I fill up with 11-12 gals from empty. Thats what my Cummins is for!
  15. so you need a "Lapping tool" for the valves? Alright I'll rent a leak-down tester and see if I lose any PSI. I'll probably be PM-ing you once I start! But I don't think I'll start doing this untill at least 2-3 weeks from now. Thanks Crazyeights!!
