  1. Oh yeah, the day I get rid of it is the day I stop breathing, or it rusts out completely!
  2. Of course! Hopefully I don't blow holes in the pipes when I go to weld it up... Unless I get someone else to do it (NO FUN!). But first I have to buy a welder... Harbor Freight time!
  3. Winestone metallic! Nice car bud, looks like a super sweet ride! For a really sweet price, no less. Good luck with the trans swap and other future upgrades. Cheers!
  4. Galvanized too! Can't beat it.
  5. He waited for me in a ditch... Im positive if i had swerved, i would have been in that ditch and not have driven home, nor gotten the insurance payout for it. Which i might add, paid for my alignment, the time i lost, headlights... So... No big.
  6. Eyesore is my second of three Subaru vehicles. I picked it up from reaching the scraper during the boom of "Cash For Clunkers" in 2009, since the standard rating for gas mileage should be in the 20's. When I got him, he was intact, had 70K on everything (and fresh timing belts/brakes at the time), and otherwise hasn't had a day off for 4 years. He's slid into a snow ditch, mostly my fault for not having put the correct tires on him for winter driving (Falken Ziex 914 tires are NOT meant for winter use, whatsoever!). I've gotten him full of mud while practicing my oversteer recovery. He's been to Michigan in the dead winter, Ohio in the summer, Pennsylvania on a few whims, and back to NY many, many times. He's blown a transmission on Thanksgiving, limped 40 miles sans fourth gear, and got me around locally for another 2 months thereafter before the replacement was installed. His only modifcations are the 15" Impeza rims, wider tires, a cheap high flow air filter with the restriction box removed, fold down seats from a junked "95 Legacy Wagon, and missing interior parts. Though I have to admit, those seats in the back sure are comfy and plush... He's downright uh-guh-ly, has loose duct tape everywhere, caked in mud in places I didn't think it could hold on to. http://photobucket.com/eyesore Haven't decided what his future fate is yet, but, if I don't use him for the EJ swap in my Loyale, I'll probably use my welding class to put a roll cage in him, and take him to the "Lemons" races. Could be coolish, so long as I don't get the crusher! xD Whoops. Cut for decency.
  7. Well thanks, I'm glad you like it as much as I do. I think it gives the car a more distinctively "old" look. I need to pin down some wing mirrors, dual headlamps, and a few other bits and pieces to complete the look, but, I'm trying to go for a more "aero" look on the car... Another add on will be a rear window louver, which I'm hoping to be my first Welding class project.
  8. He looks like a tough little car! Taking a front hot and keeps going. Man, reminds me of when i hit the deer in my legacy and it just shunned it off and kept going. Haha.
  9. It is an older style grille, out of an 87 GL coupe. $20 well spent.
  10. No sagging. BAM, rattle can. Eventually I'll sand it down and get out the scoring on the plastic, but for now, this will suffice. --- Once October rolls around I'll take it off the road and otherwise refresh things that need dealt with (the steel cancer zzz, braking, engine and transmission, and the suspension). At the moment, I can't afford to drive around without A/C, and my Legacy does not have it.
  11. The parts car is my other running car... I was considering selling it, but its a bit of an eyesore. :-p
  12. Rockauto shows that the rear calipers themselves are a cross reference between the two.
  13. It seems the XT and XT6 have the same parts. My loyale is fwd so ill look into it. Thanks GD.
  14. Well, I have a set of 14 inch rims from my Legacy... What else will I need?
  15. Cool, that's helpful actually. No dual piston models though, which is really what I want to put on it.
  16. $1200 is very steep for needing an engine rebuild. Let's make a deal since I really only need it for parts.

$450-600 is really what I could spend on it, since I'll end up having to tow it back to Hicksville anyway...

Mileage? How long have you driven it with the gasket blown?

  17. It is officially becoming harder to find available brakes for the Loyale. Every place I have spoken to in the last two days says it is becoming "obsolete" and no warehouses are carrying "new" parts for the calipers. My local dealership said there are only five reman calipers left in their warehouses. Autozone is a special order. What options for changing to a newer style brake are there? I know it's going to be a huge change too... Especially due to the axles, hill hold, etc... But I'm running out of options otherwise, and waiting a week for parts is just not in my list of things to do.
  18. Very sorry for your loss... It sounds like he was the perfect role model, indeed.
  19. Yes, I am, though it's my third Subaru. It is 5 speed and FWD, as you mentioned, and it is pretty much the same car as yours. My other (second) Subaru is a 92 Legacy FWD, but, it's automatic. It has 124K on it, but, the tranny blew out around 117K (which turns out was my fault for not changing the fluids). No, my coil springs are not like that at all, and haven't ever been that way. The car was on a slanted angle with a hill, so it just looks all outta whack. Will take some more photos so you can see. I've been looking at getting another engine so that I can put a low boost turbine on it (5-7psi of boost), so that the engine simply wouldn't choke out from steep inclines. I travel upstate a lot, and it's not uncommon for me to lose 40mph during an incline up a number of hills. Flooring it in third doesn't help, and is no good for my short gears. 65mph in 5th = 3000rpm for me. Not sure if yours is the same. The EJ swap for me would be mostly time consuming, since I have a car I can use for parts anyway.
  20. Right, so it's not a show car, nor is it really going to be, but I figured I should at least post a few pictures of it. Figure I'm looking to push only about 130whp. I don't need it to be a race car, but, having to downshift two gears to climb hills on the way upstate can't be good for it. Any methods on how I could acheieve that without having to do all sorts of changes? Please, leave your two cents. anyway, link to my Photobucket album: http://s1078.photobucket.com/albums/w482/tincan93/ Enjoy.
  21. Posted a few months back looking for some ideas on how to deal with a broken automatic in my Legacy. I wound up deleting my email address and forgot the pw. Whoops In any case, transmission is fixed. Got a warrantied unit, too. My two cars are a 93 Loyale FWD Sedan, and a 92 Legacy in the same FWD flavor, but automatic. Just got done with struts, timing belts, fuel filter, and retro fitted the A/C system on the Loyale. One fill and it sprung back to life. No more driving to class or the shop in the near 100 degree temps, kudos to grossgary for his tutorial on the o rings, and otherwise giving me the idea to at least see if it worked still. Saved my rear and wallet! In auto mech 1 and moving onto body and general welding after that. Hoping to get into ASE courses. Ordered owner badges for each of them, too. Six weeks. The theme for my Loyale is going to be "Eco-turbo". I love the 43mpg, but, the engine in the car has no power for hills, which is where the car suffers most and i wind up slowing down and having to downshift. I'm thinking a Suzuki G10T for the turbo parts. Small turbine, about 5psi of boost, and a small intercooler to match... How about you guys? Toss me some small turbines and other parts, and let me know your ideas. Thanks, and its good to be back.
