  1. I might be back someday, you never know.... Z's are pretty sweet, although RWD in the winter will suck a little, but a good set of snow tires will help a little....... See ya guys at the meet! Rick
  2. Well, I traded my lifted 84' brat to Kingbobdole for his 78' Datsun 280Z. He is giving me 3 days (well 2 now) to see if I want to keep it, but I am pretty sure that I am going to keep it. So now, I am out of Subarus....at least for a while. Thanks for all your help people of USMB, and I will still lurk in the off topic and so forth. I will still be showing up at the meet coming up in Colorado. See Ya Guys Around! Rick
  3. Hi, I am going to drop an EA82T into my brat, as it has no power, and I need it mostly for the highway, I am also infatuated with turbos, and need one in my brat. Plus I already have an intercooler....so I need the turbo engine to go with it. Anyway, I am going to use either a carbbed block (8.5:1 CR) or the turbo block (7.5:1 CR or is it 7:1?) I was thinking about going with the 8.5:1 CR so I could keep some power before boost, and still keep it somewhat offroad-able..... Is there anything I need to do to adapt the EA82T to the EA81 tranny/engine crossmember aside from notching it out for the up pipe? Can't wait to get this done...... Rick
  4. Ok, so does the EA82T bolt up to the brat tranny? I know I have to drill the fly out bigger for the EA82's bigger bolts, but what else in involved? The engine crossmember seems like it might need changed, or modded for the turbo up pipe.... KBD said he would wire it up..... Anything else?
  5. Crash is not the right choice of words, and it won't be my house....... Rick
  6. Had the same thing happen to my brat. I tried a helicoil, and it still didn't hold, but I found out later, that I was supposed to lube the helicoil before putting it in the head......OOPS!!!!! Helicoils kinda suck, and if you can get a head, I would go that route. Rick
  7. Yeah, the EA82T's are over running Pull and save, and KBD has some stuff I could probably buy from him. I also know the EA82T from my old XT.....(Rest in peace) Rick
  8. Ok, So I am wanting a turbo car REALLY bad now, I want something quick, and somewhat relible to help my brat spin those 27's a bit better, and still have plenty of power to get around the highway better. By quick I mean 100HP + I would like to run at least 10 pounds of boost, if not closer to 20 somewhere... Right now I have a carbbed EA81 in my brat.....It's gutless and I can redline it in 3rd gear up a hill doing 70mph and she still slows down! WITHOUT the 27" tires!!! So, I was thinking either A: SPFI it, and turbo the SPFI (would have to run lower boost) B: NEVER find any EA81T parts or that might be an option C: Drop an EA82T into it, with spider, front mount intercooler, etc. Those are my options for now, I thought about the EJ swap, but I would kinda like to keep to the older engines, as I know them the best. Right now, I am leaning twards the EA82T, or the turbo SPFI.... Mainly, I just need some advice, and see what you guys think would be the best way to go. Thanks Rick
  9. I'll keep you updated for sure! I have to decide if I want tires first, or SPFI first......the more I think about it, the more I think SPFI, but the tires sure would be nice..... Either way, SPFI is gonna happen really soon, so I guess it doesn't matter too much.... TTYL Rick
  10. Yeah, I think it will do ok, it's a lot higher than it was, and my main problem was bashing stuff (mainly the exhaust) and now nothing hits when I climb medians, or other things. I am going to put 14" steel pug rims on it, and 27" wal-terrain tires. Then it will be ready for some real off roading... Thanks, Rick
  11. Here are a few pics, they kinda suck (Shady, I will send you some better ones in a few days, so don't use these). It's awesome! I can't believe how easily it crawls over stuff...it's almost effortless! I can't wait to get it SPFI'ed and get some bigger tires on it!!! The Pugs are almost ready..... That's enough though, here are the pics! How did I get this one on here? Rick
  12. Merry Chrsitmas Eve everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, that comp sounds sweet Jerry! And I got the radiator hoses figured out for now, and drop the pitch stopper by anytime, just give me a call. Heck if your not busy today, you can drop it by, and maybe we can go take some pics of the brat.... And I'll try to get some "articulation" pics today, I am going to go take some pics here in a little bit. Rick
  13. Here is a teaser picture, with only the front end lift installed, but not the rear......but I figured I would get a pic up. Rick
  14. Yes! EA81 power baby!!!!!!!! Sorry..... Dr. K.........There is a park across the street from my house where I can get some cool pics, but there is an off roading place just down wadsworth from me. If you want to get together tomorrow like before 2 ish, give me a call tonight or tomorrow morning. (phone number is in a PM speeding to you!) and we can go tear it up over here. The place where I went with Phil (KBD) is just outside of Boulder and it's called lefthand canyon. The place down here is no lefthand, but it's good enough if you just want to flex your roo a bit. Let me know.... Rick
  15. Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's 5:00 already, and it's too dark to take any pics....sorry:banghead: , I was trying to get her running so I could drive it to the park and take some pics, and time flew away. I pulled all of the bowl vent crap, and a bunch of other things I thought would be ok to pull, and she ran fine! I also got my CV boot packed, and re banded, (now my engine won't be covered in CV grease) did a little re-arranging with some stuff, found my coolant leaks (heater core hoses had some pin holes in them) fixed them, Call me crazy, but the thing revs faster, and smoother than it ever has! We'll see how long she runs good for now, but I am still SPFI'ing it. Pics Tomorrow! First thing! They are woth waiting for! I promise!!! Rick
  16. and when it doesnt work, you want sarcastic answers from me.... KBD: Perhaps you are right Phil, you should do it......because that is exactly what you would do when I mess it up. LOL!!! So yeah, start getting ready still..... DrKrazy: I don't think I can make it up there today, as I think I have to iron a few hoses out, and I am going to try to rip some emissions control junk off of it today to see if it runs any better, or if it still wants to surge down the road. Jerry: At least we had the impact for 1 day! Thanks again for your help and the use of your tools! As for the sway bar, It's been off since I dropped the 4 speed into it, I guess I will drive it with it off, as I lost the little mounting clip things, and I will see how it handles just lifted, and then with 27's it might just be scary....but we'll see. Pics are to come very soon!!!!!! Rick
  17. Hey Doc! Where abouts would I be stopping to? I need to do a few more things to it before I can really drive it, like mainly get some longer vacum and fuel lines, and I have to play around with my lower radiator hose a little to get it to not kink up on me. That, and I was going to try to eliminate most of the emissions crap, until I can get the SPFI done to it, as it's running really bad! I think there is a thermal vacum switch not working right or something...but I just need it to run for now. Maybe I will just take a whack at it, and see if I can do it. If Phil can do it, I guess anyone can.....LOL Let me know where, and I will see if I can make it to you..... Rick
  18. Ok, so I called Albie up, and he assured me that the blocks are exactly the same, and it didn't matter what went where. I got the kit fully installed today (THANKS SOOOOO MUCH JERRY!!!!!!!!!) and she's lookin' quite mean already. I have to get pics tomorrow, as it's way to dark now. As of now with the stock tires I have 8" clearance at the rear diff!!!!!! With the wal-terrains I want to put on I should hit at least 10". All I need now is to SPFI it, and then get tires for it and I will be set! The lift bolts up great, and I have some camber issues in the front, but once I get the anti-sway bar on there it might help a bit. Great kit, awesome welds, and I am happy aside from waiting 3 months for it. Rick
  19. yeah, we looked at them for a while, and I just kinda guessed, but they were soooooo close, that it was really hard to tell, even guess. but I guess if it gives me major camber issues, than I can swap them around (although that's a big hassle) but there is only 2 ways it can go due to the EA81's "eliptical" like shape. Anyway, maybe I'll call albie up and see what he says.... Rick
  20. Ok, so Jerry Demoss came by today, and helped me with the lift. I only got it half in, as one of the engine crossmember nuts got rounded off. So we had to drill out the stud from the top and chisel it off, and that took probably about an hour. But we got most of the front in, and we are going to finish it tomorrow. Oh, and does it matter what front strut blocks go on what side for the EA81? They are not stamped, and we just kinda guessed what went where....and they looked exactly the same, but maybe slightly slanted. And also, do I need to get longer brake lines? They seem to be a bit short.... So far we are about 30% done, and she's looking beefy already! Rick
  21. I don't think the tranny cross member blocks are 1 piece, I think there is just 3 little cylinder tubes per side. I think jerry is thinking of the strut extentions.....unless I am crazed. Don't know about camber, but it seems like it's gonna work out fine. And yes, it's an EA81 lift, as they never put EA82's into brats. I'll try to get some dirt up on it here soon. Rick
  22. I think I am going to start lifting it this thursday night. That way I have pretty much a week to work on it before I have to drive it to work, that way if something goes wrong I have time. It also looks like I am gonna have to drive it a few weeks with the stock wheels and tires, until I can afford my tires and get my pugs ready. Thanks guys! Rick
  23. So I finally got my AA lift in the mail today (thanks Albie) and it looks to be built very well, and I can't wait to install it. Thanks, and look for pics here in a week or two! Rick
  24. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, so it isn't fixed, but if I let it cool completly before I drive it again, it's fine. Also, it will only do this sometimes, not on every restart. Help Jerry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rick
  25. I have no clue as to what it is. It could be an aluminum piece warping, or something odd like that, like maybe the manifold or something. I hope to have it fuel injected someday, and hopefully this will solve the problem. I'll let you know if I find anything out though! Thanks Rick
