  1. Well, Ok, it works fine, and all, UNTIL I shut the car off. I then restart, and it will surge. It almost seems like a choke issue to me, or something thermally controlled. Any ideas as to what it is? Rick
  2. Ah, I see, Shady: got your PM, and replied. It looks like I won't be doing the conversion for a while, mainly cause of money, and my need for a turbo on my EA81, I think I might do the swap still, just don't think it will be for a while. Thanks though, looks like allied armament would be the best place to buy from though. Rick
  3. Well, most people think I am a crazed whack-O, but I have the last laugh (except when it's broken) when I zip it around off road. Got some strange looks from some jeeps while off roading, but when I went through a monster dip, and got the front airborne, and their laughs, and miles went to looks of awe, and confusion. People always ask me if I race my brat, as it has a ton of rally stickers on it, I just laugh, and tell them it's not ready to race yet. And people I tell I am lifting it, say "get a real truck" and crap like that, and I reply "try to get 28+mpg in a "real" truck, and watch me go by in my cheap-O subaru, while you are paying a ton of money to get your "real" truck repaired" And that shuts them up. But I think actions speak louder than words, so I try to show people that it can off road. Rick
  4. See my update a few posts down.... Ok, so I put a new battery in the brat, and swapped the starter out, and she starts like a champ everytime, super fast!! And I found the intake manifold bolts were quite loose, so maybe when it heated up it would create an air leak. Don't know if it stopped my surging or not, as I still have to test drive, but I think it will do ok. Also, I had a TON of shifter play, and I couldn't really get into reverse, and I replaced the pin with a through bolt, and shimmed it with some brass tubing. I also got an extra shifter from LUVMYBRAT, and it was about 2" shorter than my brat shifter, I don't know what car it's out of though. I thought that was kinda odd, but it made it a shorter throw, and with it tightened up, it shifts awesome! I also got a Sony deck installed in it (thanks Jeff), and got my CB in a while ago. I'm decked once I get my lift an my pugs put on! Rick
  5. Shady, PM me the price with shipping, and I will have an answer to you in a day or two. Thanks Rick
  6. Hi guys, I was just wondering what the cheapest EA to EJ adapter plate is. I see allied armament has them on the group buy for $175 each, is there anywhere I can get them for less? Thanks Rick
  7. I might be interested in an EA to EJ adapter plate, but ONLY If you can guarantee that it will be shipped out within 3 business days of receiving the payment, (I can pay by credit card) and send me a tracking number to prove it was shipped out. If you can do this, than let me know, and I will decide if I want to purchase anything further. I STILL have not received my EA81 lift, and I thank Albie for working his a$$ off to get it to me, but I would rather not wait 10 weeks for an EA to EJ adapter!!!!!!! Rick
  8. OK, I fixed my spark plug threads by replacing the passenger side head and gasket and I thought this was the source of my surging problem, but it would appear to still be doing it. It seems to only surge once the car has been warmed up and restarted after about 5 minutes. The surging kicks in at about half throttle and is fine if floored or when driving with light foot, but in between the 2 it starts violently surging. It acts like an igniton or fuel cut and I checked the accelerator pump and it seems to be fine. It almost seems like a thermally activated vacuum leak. I don't know if this would make a difference or not but the car does not start sometimes just clicks when key is turned. If I take 2 screwdrivers and short the 2 points on the starter, it will turn right over. Obviously there is a wiring issue, but would this make it surge? Rick
  9. Let me be the first to say, that title is a little wrong. That is all. Rick
  10. It's more of a ripping clacking sound. I advanced the timing too far on the brat, and got the SAME EXACT NOISE!!!!!!!! Listen now, and save your headaches for later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! INTERCOOLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, learn how to spell these things on XT6.net....study now with my 8 week program, and also learn how to spell "cold start injector" LOL Rex Kwando!!!!! er-Rick
  11. Phil, you are crazy............. Just had to say that. Something is binding (duH!) and it sounds strange, and I wouldn't pull it apart yet. There is such a thing as over-troubleshooting, making the problem worse than it is. I remember you having an issue with the front wheels locking up when you first got the wagon, and I suspect foul play yet again...and yes, it is cold enough to freeze outside, I have the ice to prove it! What you need to do is.....tie a tow rope onto Noss's SHO, and pull it down the driveway, get it onto a level surface.....then see if the problem goes away. I suspect a Hill-holder issue, and I know you looked at it, but hill holders suck royal A$$..... Or I guess you could put the D/R lever in neutral, and let it roll down. UNLESS....you bent something off roading, or your tranny is blown...like Jeff's 6. He he Rick
  12. Hmmm.....I kinda wanted to keep my 4 speed, and see how long it lasts. They had turbo EA81's, and I am not sure but I am guessing they put out around 95HP, and I think the EJ22 is 130HP, so there is only that 35HP diference.........that and I think my tranny has been re-built recently. I guess it depends on how hard I am on the car, and how strong my tranny is.....I could always put a 5 speed dual range in it too if it eats up the 4 speed. I am mainly worried about the wiring at this point. Thanks Rick
  13. Now in the right forum!!! After some probs with my head on the EA81, it made me think about dropping a decently powered engine into the brat. I am going to get a head for the EA81 for now, but Kingbobdole keeps trying to get me to fuel inject it, and I just don't see a point to injecting the EA81, so I am looking into dropping either an EA82T, EJ22, or a 2.5 RS into it. I figure if I do it, I may as well do it right. I am leaning twards the EJ22 or the 2.5RS, so I was wondering what I need to do the swap. Most likley it's gonna be the EJ22. I know I need the adapter plate, my flywheel drilled, engine, ECU, wiring (I think I got that covered), and the fuel pump. What else? Do I need the engine crossmember from the engine that I drop into it, or will the EA81 work? Thanks Rick
  14. Well, we came to a place where we would have to go up a hill, or down a boulder infested trail, my car wouldn't make it down boulder row, and phil's wagon started getting stuck going up the hill, so we turned around and went back the way we came. I think we could have gone further up and then down, but we didn't have a map, and didn't want to get lost. And my un-lifted brat would have gotten stuck a bunch!!! ADOG-glad to hear your having fun with the 6!!!!!! I wish it would snow here after I get the lift and tires on it!! I need my lift!!! Rick
  15. Man that's not too bad of a picture of me. I think it's going on the Christmas cards! LOL I am shocked with what the stock Brat can do, but I crimped my exhaust by slamming it into the frame rail and the jacking lip. I guess I'll have to put on a different exhaust now! Noss, why are my plates not blurred out???????????? That would be a great help if you could do that. Thanks We need more people with CB radios next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rick-the guy showing his a$$ off in the pic!
  16. Sure, I can wait, and I guess I can just try pulling some lines, and plugging them. It's too cold to work outside now though. Thanks Rick
  17. Sweet, that may be the ticket! Can you make me a list of all the lines you plugged please? I really need to get this thing running ASAP. And I also already disconnected all of the Air injection hoses as well, so I doubt I need anything else anyway. Thanks Rick
  18. Ok, so the brat doesn't really run that great, it surges and hesitates in the beginning of the gas pedal. It seems like something isn't opening or actuating when it should. I just changed the air intake, and I had it wired wrong with all of the vacum hoses, and fixed them, but there is still something wrong. Did my does the idle mixture need adjusted to compensate for the higher flowing intake? Or did I not plumb a vacum hose in right? Thanks Rick
  19. I'm just dinking around by the house, besides, most of you have to work when I go anyway. If you want to go some time PM me and I'll go with you! When I get the brat lifted up, then we can plan a multi-subaru expedition. The brat really needs lifted before I do anyting serious. And I will let ALL of you guys know when It's lifted and ready. I think me and Jeffast are gonna go somewhere on this Saturday (ifI can get the Brat running good) So PM me if interested. Rick
  20. Soon Jeff, soon.....I patched the exhaust together using a small bottle of liquid copper gasket, and a "new" gasket in between the other two that were on there. I need to get one from the dealer!!! We'll see if it works! Rick
  21. Yeah, actually they do! lol And I see ATV's and trucks and stuff all the time there, never seen a cop. This is in Lakewood, btw, just up the road from hampden. TTYL Rick
  22. Sweet, I'll have to fix it tomorrow then at like 5am before I go to work and see if that helps. I also had the little compensator in the wrong place, that smoothed the idle out a little, but now it's a little hard starting, and backfires. It has to be the exhaust like you said. Thanks Hatchsub!!! Rick
  23. Ok, so I put on a new intake on my carbbed EA81, I used an SPFI snorkel, and ditched the air box, it ran good for about a minute, then started idling real rough, and it wants to die as I take off from a stop. I noticed a little valve on the air box that is called the idle compensating valve or something, this is connected into the filter now. Still no dice. However!! I noticed an exhaust leak at the cat-to-tail pipe flange, and it seems pretty big. Can an exhaut leak make the car idle really rough, and want to die on acceleration? Thanks Rick
  24. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. Thanks guys! The brat it a very nice brat when it's washed! lol I also just passed the emissions test yesterday!!! yay! I am just waiting on my 4" lift from Allied armament, and I have some 14" steel pugs, and I am gonna put 225/70 R14's on them. I am going to get the Uniroyal Liberator A/T's from Wal-Mart....hence the "Wal-terrain" And they are a pretty agressive A/T tire. (more info then you wanted eh?) No problem Jerry, I knew you would like the grabber green diff! LOL And yes, I need RX springs, and longer shocks for the rear once the lift is in. Now I gotta go fix the exhaust I bashed! Thanks again guys! Rick
