  1. I haVe these springs (King) on my 99 Impreza OBS and loVe them!!! Well worth the money! I well tell you though I will be selling mine in the near future (sometime during winter) to buy a new set of King Lift Springs meant for the Forester struts. Mine are mated to ProdriVe Bilstein GC struts with saggy spacers, KYB tophats and Jackson Rally 1" strut spacers. The ride... the ride is stiff, maybe a smidge too stiff, but they do work wonders on the dirt, snow, graVel and such.

  2. So would it be less of a headache to just get the Audi one instead of the VW one or are they the exact same? Apparently, the Quantum Synchro rear diff is hard to come by up here in Michigan. I called around to two jobs and one said they hadn't seen one in 2 years and the other hasn't had the rear diff sonce 2001... buuuut the second shop is going to call around for me and see if they can find one...

EDIT: BTW, this is great info... I'Ve been following it eVer since I looked into lockers, welded rear diffs, and LSD's. Figured of all people to haVe them or haVe a custom one would be this site... soooo thanx guys! This is great news!

  3. I like the gravel express stuff, but do not wish to spend the dough on it.

With the 07 forester struts i netted about 4"ish of lift. When I get back to her i will do a couple more inches.maybe.I am trying to just have a fun basic DD.

I COULD do all kinds of things, but I am trying to control myslef.I want to get back to working on the Huggy....

I'll do some more stuff this summer, but i am bad about tying up loose ends.So it may not be much.I will be working on the West side of our state this Summer, so it will be hard to get stuff done.

    cheers

Understandable. By luck and location I got my Pushbar. I know of only 1 other one and it was in California (tried to pick it up as a spare). Nooooow it's somewhere in Alaska.

Hum... there is a guy holding onto some 07 s or xt struts for me and judging by your 4" comment I'm super excited! I do haVe to ask what wheel spacers did you use and how big are they?

  4. You haVe the setup I am currently wanting. I'm lifted 1.5 inches at the moment, but want more... tons more. Plus the RX tranny swap... I loVe your wagon!!!

    I think I see a pushbar/custom bash guard in this car's future...

He could always go with the OEM JDM GraVel Express Pushbar (also in the long process of trying to source the GraVel Express Sideskirts and rear tire mount) like me...

  5. General Grabber AT2's... I want these tires! Only problem is I'Ve searched and I get a bunch of different answers... "yes they will"... "no they won't"... "yes they will." The thing I haVe noticed with all the threads is that the strut spring perch will get in the way. As the car sits right now...

    99 Subaru Impreza OBS

-Paranoid Fabrications 1/2 Saggy Butt Spacer (Rear)

    -Paranoid Fabrications 1/4 Spacer (Front)

    -1" Jackson Rally Lift Kit

    -King Lift Springs

    -ProdriVe WR Bilstein Struts

    -91-94 Turbo Legacy Wheels

    -Hankook iPikes 205/60/15

The lift is bout a 1.5-2" high.

Is there any way to squeeze 205/75/15 General Grabber AT2's on the car? Or eVan a 225/70/15? Or is 215/65/16's going to be my best shot? OEM size for that year and model is a 205/60/15. Any idea guys? I'm thinking 16" wheels with a 48 offset and 205/65/16's, but I don't want to order them and then haVe them not fit.

Any other suggestions? I'm looking for an aggressiVe off-road tread and could care less about how it rides and/or how loud it is. If it rubs on hard turn in so be it... I just want a little more ground clearance and a more aggresiVe look.

    Thanx

    Jonny

  6. Not sure if this will help you out Scott, but here is a 01 Forester with 2" strut spacers...

    225/70 15's on my 01 Forester.

    l5.jpg

    l6.jpg

This is with 2" strut blocks but had these tires on before the lift and they worked fine.

    Slight rub at full lock.

Kevin on SF.org made these blocks to straighten out the trailing arm geometry.

    block2.jpg

I'm gonna do this as well because the rear suspension has some bind with the strut blocks on it.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Ok wow brain fart FTL... I forgot dirtyimpreza.com has almost all the info. Anyways, if you decide to do the Forester Suspension swap to lift your Subaru keep this in mind...

Do forester struts just bolt right on to a GC impreza?

The fronts are a direct swap, but the front swaybar won't line up well. For the rears, you either need to swap your tophats(strut mounts) from your original struts to the Forester ones(requires spring compressors), or keep the stock Forester tophats and drill new holes in your strut mount tower. I did the latter, and it works great for me, especially if you want to go back to stock in the future.

    And maybe this too...

Again, if I remember ready right the trailing arms are the same size on the forester and the impreza. Its the three bolt bracket that mounts the trailing arm to the body that is different. The forester bracket moves the trailing arm back therefore moving the wheel back.

When I remember where else on dirtyimpreza I read eVerything I'll post more.

  8. can you detail those differences, maybe even in this thread?

    http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=112390

Ya, let me look for the threads while doing research about it. I belieVe the info is on this site and rs25... just can't remember where. If I remember right the fronts bolt right in, but the rear tophats need to be modified because the bolts won't line up... if you want to go back to stock or a different setup some day you could always use the Forrester tophats and drill where the struts bolt into... I can't remember the name of that part of the car... but ya it's something like that. Plus I think there is something else, but I can't remember. Let me search around and I'll get back to you.

  9. maybe he can build a 2", he has for other older gen models. pretty sure i bought some 2" lift kit parts from him for EJ model stuff, so he might be able too. i was piecing together something for an oddball subaru so i didn't get an entire "kit".

He will and can make a 2" lift. I just inquired about that. I was going to go with Jackson Rally's 1" lift, but then decided I wanted a little more lift and messaged him. He will do it though. BTW, I haVe a 99 OBS. If you go with Forrester suspension you will need to modify the rear... FYI

  10. it depends what you want out of it. and what you do with the car. if you're autoXing and RallyXing, don't. but if it's just a daily driver/toy, go for it.

but in all reality, I would say no. it would be worth it in an EA82 car where everything bolts up, and fits perfect. but the amount of work required to get it to fit up to a legacy....I just don't think it's THAT different and cool.

unless...you swap some gears around, drop in an LSD, etc. click my link above for some thoughts on gear ratios to make the RX tranny more than it's legend.

The car is used as a daily driver with a hint of spirited mountain driving.

The plan for the car is as follows:

Swap in the EJ25 NA motor

Do light modding including the suspension

    Swap in RX Tranny

    Add MiniMac CarPC

    Add Sound System

I want to do something different including the tranny and I like your idea of dropping in a LSD and stuff like that. I'll be looking into it a little more I suppose.

  11. Hello all!

So after seeing pictures of a Forester with a ea82 dual range tranny I got to thinking...

What are the complications that I am going to run into if I swap in a RX Tranny into a 99 Legacy L Wagon with a soon to be 2.5 NA motor?

A few questions off the top of my head are:

-I know I need an adapter plate, ea82 flywheel, ea82 clutch, 3.7 rear diff but what else?

-Is there any way to change the gear ratio without binding? Like could I take the RX tranny and swap in my Legacy gears? Im worried about the 3.7 gear ratio...

-Do I need a custom flywheel or does it need to be modified?

-Will I need to change the clutch assembly out?

-How much power will the tranny be able to take?

-Will the front drivetrain need to be modified and if so what will need to be done?

    Reasons for doing this:

    -Its different and unique

-Very few people have done this... at least to my knowledge

-I will have a 5-speed with a high low gear and a center locking diff control

I think that is all for now!

    Thanx

  12. A lady friend of mine has an ae86 and I was thinking the same thing... it just never occurred to me to actually think about putting her ground effects kit onto a Subie... hum... maybe I'll borrow her car for a day or two...

Another idea would be to add the RX ground effects kit to your wagon.

+1 for pictures of your old wagon!!!
