  1. well scratch that... ended up gettting a 2012 legacy premium. Bluetooth audio built in
  2. So my 02 impreza is dead. I had timing belt/pulley problems for the 2nd time in as many years, so tonight I am picking up my new 09 impreza. Its an automatic unfortunately, but it will have to do. Really like the car otherwise. My question is if anyone has tried using the ipad dock in that generation of impreza with one of those ipod dock bluetooth receivers. I have heard that some of them dont work with some cars and haven't been able to find anything specific on the impreza. I would really like to be able to use my android phone to play through the stereo, and would prefer not to have to tear the whole dash apart to change the radio to do it. If I have to I will, but I would be happy leaving it the way it is as long as I can get that working. a headphone jack input would be fine too, but the blurtooth recevers seem nice.
  3. Ok, so it was only when it was hot at first and after I let it sit for a while it would be fine again, but now it just doesn't work. When cold it will turn over for maybe half a second and then nothing. All the lights and fan are on but no crank and no clicks. I will look into those suggestions though. Thanks
  4. My 02 2.5ts has been having an intermintent problem starting the last couple of moths. It would start fine first thing, but after it was warm and taking short trips it would not start back up. Syptoms when it wont start were it would crank very slow for about half a second and then nothing. No clicks or cranking. Battery is 1 year old and tested perfect and alternator is not new, but did test out good. So I'm thinking the problem is the starter and/or starter solenoid? How can I know which one it is or where the problem is otherwise? all connections from what I can see to the battery/alternator/starter seem tight.
  5. Probably will never work for anyone else, but when I had that same code it finally went away when I had to replace my ac belt idler pulley. It had been humming for quite some time and apparently dragging the engine down. Brought the gas mileage back up too.
  6. WOOHOOO! Got it! found one locally at the subaru heaven junkyard and now my car runs great for the first time in almost 2 months!
  7. cool. Its a 2002 2.5TS so whatever size that would be I guess. I may take you up on the $15 shipped I'll let you know after I look into it. Thanks!
  8. OOfff I feel sorry for ya. I'm going through big timing belt problems on my 02 impreza and I still dont have it running right after 1.5 months. Do a compresion test to see if any valves are bent. I believe compresion should be around 170psi for each cylinder. I bent 2 exaughst valves and didn't hear any noises turning over.
  9. so as far as we can tell, the reason my car is still running bad is the crankshaft gear that we repaired isn't working right. It lost a tooth somehow that communicates with the crankshaft position sensor. The guy that repaired it did an awesome job, but I think that its still not getting a good reading on the sensor maybe because of the difference in conductivity between aluminum and whatever the rest of the gear is. basically, what we have determined is that cylinders 1&2 aren't doing anything. crankshaft position sensor code is on (already replaced sensor). I want replace that gear, now, but I can't, for the life of me, find what its even called to find one. I think I can get one just at a junkyard (if worst comes to worst I live about an hour away from subaru heaven). Anyone know exactly what its called? its the middle gear in the attached picture. Thanks!
  10. Hehe finally found it! thanks guys. It turns out it was unplugged. Thats what happens when you tear your engine apart and don't get it all put back for about a month- things get forgotten. Still not quite running right, but it sounds almost normal now except that its idling at about 1700 and after about 5min it starts backfiring. No CEL yet, though
  11. could someone post a picture of where the coolant temp sensor is on an 02 impreza 2.5? I've been searching all over and all of the descriptions dont seem to make sense to me and I can't find anything that looks like the pictures of the sensor itself. I took off the alternator thinking it was under there and thought I found it right next to the crankshaft position sensor but it wasn't it. What was it?
  12. Still working on getting my impreza running, but we're getting close. We seem to have lost a place for 1 part though and cant figure out where it goes. any ideas?
  13. alright, I'm going with the ones from the dealer, $100 total for both of them just the HG's. I think all the other gaskets are ok so we can probably reuse them, I guess.
  14. What year of sti's head gasket do I need to ask for at the dealer?
  15. sounds good. How does the ebay $70 oem HG's sound for the ej255/7? Not really oem?
  16. I'm listening, just trying to explore all my options. I'm worried about my bolts because I think one of them IS damaged. it is covered in oil/junk and the head gasket didn't look like it was directly to blame, possibly. Does $70 sound too cheap for just the HG's oem for ej255/7? Those gaskets will just fit right in, right?
  17. ok,these are MLS, but they dont have the head bolts with them, but I can always get them separate. If they are any goo, sounds like a good deal...
  18. well one of the head bolts was full of oil where it was leaking and we're thinking that may be where the leak was actually coming from and not so much the head gasket. Just figuring we'll replace everything while we're in there. Btw this whole project is a long story, but one morning a couple weeks ago I just got on the interstate going to work in the morning and I heard a pop and the engine sputtered and died. Figured the timing belt snapped (I've had this car since about 130k now has 143k, figured it was never replaced, and now probably due for it again anyway). got it apart and found the belt was actually still in one piece, worn, but in one piece. An idler pulley seized and ripped apart, so same effect. We replaced all the pulleys and the water pump and got the timing set straight but still wouldn't start (we were just hoping no damage to the engine). compression test showed no compression in one cylinder and low in another. pulled the head and sure enough there are 2 badly bent exauhst valves in the one and slightly in the other. So in short I am replacing the gaskets while everything is apart, but the budget is stretched pretty thin. We're doing the labor ourselves, anyway so its just the parts cost, at least.
  19. anyone else like the Mizumo stuff? I found this from them that has the head bolts too. If nothing is good as far as gaskets go, could I at least go with some head bolts from ebay? that would even save me a lot for just those.
  20. How much of a mistake would it be to put in this gasket kit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-03-Subaru-EJ25-SOHC-Engine-Cylinder-Head-Gasket-Set-Kit-car-parts-components-/150761079143 seems almost too cheap... anyone know anything more about it at all. The 30 day warranty doesn't give me too much confidence.
  21. wow someone has really had every problem on this forum, haven't they? didn't think there was any way anyone else would have put this on here but here it is http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=103387 I like the jb weld idea I might try that
  22. Yeah i dont think anything is rubbing anymore we got everything out of there. I'll probably let it be for now. I thought I was going to have to replace the ac compressor before so its a bit of relief to know its just the clutch that should be easier.
  23. My ac belt had a catastrophic failure because the ac clutch (I think thats what it is) failed and seized. the short of it being that the remains of the belt got stuck behind the drive pulley and wore a bit of a hole in the timing belt cover (thats what it is right? plastic behind the pulleys). we got it all taken apart so the ac is disconnected and out of the system. My question being: How dangerous is it to drive the car with the hole in that cover and where can I find a new cover?
