The PCV was aftermarket (Advance Auto) as for the PCV filter they didn't have any available so I took out the old one, cleaned it well, then let it dry out. I spoke to him late last night and he made it to Minnesota with no other incidents so it must be ok. These cars are truley amazing. This car was my stump jumper, it was all to pieces. Rusted beyond belief, holes in frame and floor, it has been in puddles so deep there is still mud in the floor boards, 187,000 miles on the odometer, and it didn't pass Virginia inspection but it made it 1,300 miles with no real problems and from what he said decent gas mileage, Awesome cars.

The PCV valve we changed when we tuned it up so if it was this other valve you guys are referring to there's no real chance of the car just quitting on him I guess. It must not be to serious being he left Chicago around 7:00AM this morning and is still going without problems. Thanks for all the good answers

I let a buddy of mine borrow my '84 GL wagon 4x4 to drive from Virginia to Minnesota. We gave it a complete tune up before he left including all fluids. He made it to Chicago (over 600 miles) when the car started loosing power and blowing smoke out the back. He pulled off the next exit and the smoking quit and the power returned. He got back on highway went about 6 more miles with no problems and pulled off for the night. He has checked and all fluids and everything is full, oil pressure fine, temp. also fine. The only thing I could come up with was maybe one of the spark plug wires isn't on good, so he is going to check and restart this morning but I'm looking to figure out why this happened in case he breaks down I'll have some guess's ready to go. Any help would be wonderful and appreciated greatly.

Convince me why I should buy Subaru vs. Toyota
stansgl replied to Pinny's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI currently own a '98 Forester and a '05 Outback Sport SE. We just traded a '97 Legacy GT in on the Outback Sport and so far we are very happy with it. It seems to me that all of the models hold there value well and the Sport SE (special edition) I feel is a good buy because you do get plenty of extras for not much extra. I have owned diffrent models they all are nice in diffrent ways you just kinda need to decide which one fits you better.

Why low customer satisfaction?
stansgl replied to adwolf1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell the next few years should get interesting. In my newest addition of Subie Sport or Drive magizine (I forgot which) there's an article where they put up the Legacy Gt against an Audi I believe it is and in there they are talking about how subaru's plan is to be up to standards with cars like BMW and Audi's in the next 5 years and that the '05's were the first taste. Has anyone else read that one yet.

Did Subaru ever put out a service bulletin for....
Lifter problems! I bought my "98 Forester with 67K miles knowing that it had a light lifter peck when it's cold out. It hasn't gotten any worse really but it is annoying and from what I'm told it seems to be a common thing. So does anyone know did Subaru ever address this issue?? Thanks!!

EA81 Front strut question???
The thing is I don't run it on the road except to get back and forth to the mud holes... thats the only road use it gets. Not many miles at all are put on but I guess off road use is twice as hard on it as on.

EA81 Front strut question???
Thanks for your help.. I just installed the 14" Pug's and even after hammering and cutting the drivers side is still catching a little... I'm thinking I will adjust those just a touch to see if that will do it.

EA81 Front strut question???
So what exactly are there purpose.... an example in which a person would have to adjust them.... would it be in assisting with lining the front end up or what? Just trying to figure out as to why Subaru put them there. Thanks!!
