  1. Ended up doing a compression test today and #1 and #2 not so good. Going to adjust the valves tonight and see if that helps. I have never done it and I highly doubt the previous owner ever did. Otherwise I do believe I could have burnt valves. Engine has just under 185,00 miles on it and it was not taken care of at all be the previous owner.

  2. My Brat was running fine until I drove it home from work today. I was driving down the street and when I stopped at a red light it barely would idle. As the day went on it got to the point where it would stall on me when I stopped. This happened a few months ago but it went away after a day or two. I pulled the vacum line off the distributor to see if it was pulling vacum. Nothing. Checked back at the EGR valve, Nothing! Any thoughts as to what might be wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

  3. He needs one for a Gen 1 Brat. Yours is a Gen 2 and will not fit.

Howdy, come on down. I have a very nice low topper, burgendy color, tinted windows, thule rack (factory), inside finished. I use my '87 brat for work, so never put the topper on. I have never seen a topper this nice for a brat. Dave

ps I am easy on pricing, or trade.

  4. Ok this was my wagon until I sold it about 2 years ago. I got a call from my aunt who now owns the car that it wont start. I drove down today and had a look at it. Found the problem. When you crank it the rotor is not turning in the distributor. So what I am thinking is that it is one of these possible problems:

    1. Broken timing belt

    2. Broken belt tensioner

    3. Bad distributor

The Right side timing belt is still turning fine. I did not have all the tools to tear into it at the time to see if there was a problem on the left side of the engine. Car also really looks like it could use some new plugs, wires, cap and, rotor too. So would I be right in my guess about the problem?

  5. That is about what condition this one was in when I found it. Sitting up under trees for 5 years filled full of junk. Hey it was free so no complaints. It needed a starter to get it going again. That was it. I have since replace all the front sheetmetal and the doors are from a 85 hatch so they are built a lttle stronger than the Brat doors. I also had to weld the rear seats back in. They were long gone. I was happy to find the A-bar on Craigslist for it. It is qutie hard to find parts for it around here. There are no EA-81 cars in any of the local wrecking yards. The only real metal work I need to doo is the battery box area. It looks like the battery ruptured and leaked out all over sometime in the past. It is quite rotted out there. I cut out the part I needed out of a 84 GL wagon I had. I just need to get around to fixing it.

    nice man

my moms neighbor has a brat under their porch (i dont know why either)

but i'm going to ask about it

there is a bunch of junk piled on top and it doesn't look as if the suspension is holding any, more but there is minimal rust and the glass is all there

it has the t-tops and a carburator, thats as much as i know so far

  6. Will I need to make the blocks just for the front cross member only or do I need to make one for the trans cross member too?

    Richard

It screws up the camber quite a bit and isn't recommended for tire life if you are running on pavement most of the time.

It's also only good for about 1" to 1.5" of additional height. The wheels look funny at the camber it puts them at.

Better to make some small 1" lift blocks for the x-member to avoid the camber problems. Then you can crank them up and have them straight.
