  1. I'm jumping in on an old thread, with an even older member...was off-line for the last few years. I have strong opinions about tires, as we are skiers and get up to the (Snoqualmie) pass and Crystal frequently during the winter. Just bought an 04' Outback with some road tires that start with a Z...Ziertex? Never heard of them, but they look like they will go another 40k for summer driving...I would not take them up to the pass though...seem kind of squirrely in the wet stuff. We also have a 93' Legacy Wagon that we run Toyo Observe Stud-less during the winter. If you are going to hit the mountains (snow) a lot, I would recommend a seperate set of tires, as no tire seems to do it all. That said, our summer tire on the Legacy was a Goodyear Triple Tread and I think it did a decent job for all-weather, in fact, I got 70k out of them, and I could probably run them for another 10k this summer. Good tires.... For our Outback, I am looking at swapping tires next winter for skiing (or finding a set of rims and having new winter tires mounted) but I like the sounds of the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D's. If they are as quiet as they say, I might consider running them year round. Please, let us know how your choice worked out...tire choices are like...well, you know, everyone has one.
  2. Jim, I have a 93 Legacy Auto, and I get 24-26 mixed driving, but the gas guage always shows empty at around 200-240 miles. There are older posts that detail the problem with the gas guages, so I let mine go until the low fuel light came on. It is a yellow square next to the guage, but you won't see it until it comes on. I get up to 330-340 before the light comes on, and then, as other posts mention, you've got 2 more gallons. Kowboy
  3. I was offered some 195/65/15 Hakku's for my 93 Legacy wagon, which has 185/70/14's on it now. The "Universal Rims" they came on came no where near fitting. I tried out a tire calculator and they are going to be 3.17% bigger, and they don't recommend going over 3%, but they sure look like they will work. The tires are in pretty good shape, studs ok, but I'm wondering if I should pursue some 15" 5-lug wheels. Anyone have some, or know locally the best route to go near Auburn Washington. Thanks! Kowboy
  4. Being a new Soobie owner, I now have the 10amp fuse in with my spare tire, in case (of a flat) I need to get to a tire shop. I also have one set of chains, which if needed this year, I will run on the front tires. This shouldn't pose a problem to the AWD gearing, should it? I have about 20% left on the tires that came with this 93' Leg. Wagon and I want to wait until next year for new tires. Any of you experts want to let me know if I need 2 sets of chains?? Kowboy PS: My wife thinks I'm a little crazy, but I really like the information on this board. Thanks!
  5. Hey Kowboy, seeing how I'm just down the Hwy from you, whats this local yard in Enumclaw? Welcome to the board btw. Local to the area, it's in Auburn/Kent, Asian Autos. Very small yard on 262nd, off 3rd, next to all the big yards down by the river...just not in a van. Good luck calling them though, I wasn't sure he understood what I meant, so had to go down there...you live in the scratch? Thanks for the welcome...K
  6. I just bought a 93' Legacy Wagon and it's getting 24-25 on two tanks, mostly backroads. Question though, I've read that the tank should be 15.9 gallons, but it shows empty after about 10 gallons. Previous owner said it "has a small tank" but I haven't let it run until low fuel light comes on, so might do that. Anyone know for sure what size tank these have? Thanks, Kowboy
  7. I just bought a 93' Legacy Wagon and two tanks have averaged 24/25 with almost no highway driving. Brings up a question though, the gas guage shows empty at about 240 miles. Fills up with 10 gallons, and previous owner said "it's a small gastank". All the info I have, owners manual and internet, say it should be a 15.9 gallon tank. I was going to go ahead and run it until the low fuel warning light came on, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks, Kowboy
  8. Thanks to everyone for the input, but I passed on that car. This would be my wife's car for the most part, so I found a nice 93' Legacy Wagon, super good shape, and got that for a little less. I actually found a dust deflector at a local junk yard and installed that today, so other than some tires in the next 20k miles, it's good to go. I've checked out the Nokian's and think I'll be getting those, as they aren't much more than a really good all-season tire. The Tire Factory dealer said they'd been getting around 70k out of the NRW-T. Sure is a lot of good information on these boards for a new Subie owner. Thanks, Kowboy
  9. I've never owned a Subaru, but know plenty of people who love them. We're looking for another car, and I recently looked at a 90' Loyale Wagon, AT, High Roof, with Turbo and AWD. The seller owns the repair shop it was at, and he's totally reconditioned the car (original miles 98K) from stem to stern. Undercoating, new tires, engine, etc. The car ran and drove great. He wants more than blue book ($4,500) but as he said, it's essentially a new car. Any advice or recommendations on this vehicle? Also, was there ever a 3rd seat option on this wagon? New to Subaru...Kowboy
