  1. The light now flashes occasionally about 15 seconds after startup. If I then stop the car and restart it does not flash at all. ?
  2. I had the tranny flushed and the elecrical contacts cleaned and the AT Oil Temp light stopped flashing for a week. Now it has returned, even when the car is cold. The garage have ordered and retained a 'temp sensor' in case that happened. Should I have it fitted now? Gil
  3. Thank you for your advice - What I want to do please is stop the starter from being disabled, so I can use the spare key without a remote control. My daughter needs the remote, but I need to start the car with the spare key to service it. The remote has 2 buttons on it and the left one is always needed to enable the starter. If all the doors are locked and then I use the spare key to unlock the driver's door the car will not start, unless I fetch the remote and press its left-hand button. The remote is labelled 'Pursuit'. Gil
  4. I have now bought a 98 Legacy Sedan to go with my 96 and 99 Legacy Wagons! I have seen short references to the following problem in the list but - This 98 has an irritating alarm which disables the starter unless you 'subtract the first number you thought of and stand on your head'. Is there a permanent way to stop it doing this please - as an amateur sorry I would need a blow-by-blow account? Gil
  5. Thanks everybody. Yesterday I bought the 98 Legacy to go with my 96 and 99 Legacies. they look good together. Gil
  6. Can you fit roof bars to a Legacy Sedan please? Either the Subaru bars from a Wagon, or a different make? Gil
  7. I tested the Impreza but it was real noisy somewhere in the rear and the engine was rough. Also it required tremendous force to move the shift lever. I am sure it was just what I wanted if it had been in decent order, but this one was the worst condition car I have ever driven. I am looking again at the 98 Sedan but would prefer a wagon with roof bars. Why would the shift lever have been so stiff? Gil
  8. There is no binding and the light has not flashed during motoring all day today. Gil
  9. I put a fuse in the FWD socket and the AT oil light stopped flashing for a long time - about 100 miles. Then it started flashing again, so I took the fuse out to activate AWD again. The light has not come on since. I will try it again today. ?
  10. I disconnected the battery and re-connected it but the AT Oil Temp light continued flashing. I put a fuse in the FWD holder and the light has stopped flashing. Where to go from here please? Gil
  11. Well nipper thanks for your advice - I always read your contributions with great interest. My daughter passed the test despite the flashing light from the AT oil temp. I can't detect anything wrong with the car on full lock. I am going to disconnect the battery and reconnect it and also try the car in FWD only. Then it will be to the garage on Tuesday! Thanks Gil
  12. I've had a long period free from occasional AT oil temp light flashing, but regrettably it has started again in my 99 Legacy Wagon, on the eve of my daughter's driving test! This time it starts after the car has been running a mile and stays flashing. When car is hot and stopped and restarted the light is again off for a mile, then starts and stays flashing again, so it may not be oil-temperature related? Any offers from your experience please? Gil 96 and 99 Legacies
  13. I think so - the roof was only dented in front of the bars near the front window. Gil
  14. Somebody rolled over one of my Subaru Legacy Wagons down a bank and it rolled upright again and was driven away OK. The roof was dented in but I jacked it out. Do you think the roof bars are protective in a roll-over?
  15. Thanks for your advice - both cars are 2.2. More advice would be appreciated please. Gil
  16. I have a 99 Legacy Wagon and a 96 Legacy Wagon. Should I buy a 99 Impreza Outback Sport Green for my daughter's first car - it has about 125K miles? Or a 98 Legacy Sedan White which has about the same mileage? Each about $5K, probably less for cash. Gil - Allegany, in Buffalo Lake Effect snowbelt.
  17. Thanks you are right the cigar fuse has blown - but I don't understand what you mean by diversion to fan - the fan has a separate fuse. ? Gil
  18. This has foxed me - When I plug my tire inflator into the cigar lighter socket in my 99 Legacy today, I do get a surprise ! It has always worked OK - when I turn the ignition key of course. Today when I turn the key the inflator does not come on but - guess what - something(s) else does - the cooling fans come on at the front of the car ! HELP! Please help to save me time wire tracing - has it happened to you? Gil
  19. Thanks for all your advice. On both my cars I can only get, at the vent with full blower speed, 20F below the outside air temp, that is 40 if outside is 60 and 60 if outside is 80. What do you mean by 'recycled' - do you mean with 'interior car' button pushed in? Gil
  20. My Legacy alternator failed this afternoon and battery went flat - no warning light came on. Could I have got home 10 miles using my seven and a half amp-hour jump starter battery if I still had original battery connected or would I have needed to disconnect original battery? Gil
