  1. The blower switch on one of my Legacies has ceased to operate in Positions 1, 2 and 3. Everything works in Position 4. I assume the problem is the blower motor resistor? Can anybody give me a 'blow by blow' account of how to get at it and replace it please? Gil
  2. Thanks yes I have sprayed the fittings and will try to grab the inserts with vice grip. Thank you for your efforts to help - I will let you know how it goes. Gil
  3. I want to put the crossbars in, not take them out. But first I need to remove the screws and I can't because their sockets are turning. Gil
  4. On my 99 Legacy I can't fit the roof crossbars because when I turn the screws their cylindrical bases also turn. Any ideas please? Gil
  5. There is a scraping noise I think driver side rear on my 99 Legacy Wagon particularly on left turns. Any ideas please? Gil
  6. I have a 96 Legacy Wagon and have bought a 99 Legacy Wagon. The roadholding in snowy NY is worse on the 99 Legacy. The 96 has 14 inch wheels, the 99 has 15 inch. I have 2 sets of tires for the 99. It is fitted now with Dayton Daytona SR P195/60/R15. They look real soft walls. I also have a set of Mastercraft Avenger G/T same size that came with the car. Would these be better please for Winter? Gil
  7. Both of the cars will start if the gas heater is off. They won't start if the heater is on. The garage is very damp when heater is on melting the ice. Are Legacies susceptible to damp? Gil
  8. It was a cold day. When i returned from trips out I drove them into the garage and left them overnight with the gas heater on and doors closed. The next morning both of them would crank but not start. I pushed them outside for half an hour and they started first touch as usual. Gil
  9. Hello It's been pretty cold here in the snow in NY State so I put my 2 Legacy Wagons 96 and 99 in the garage and put the gas heater on overnight. Next morning neither of them would start until I left them out in the cold. Why please? Gil (newbie to USA from UK!)
  10. There is a Jusy rear wiper motor front and rear advertised on ebay item number 7948528862 or put 'Subaru rear wiper motor' in Search box. I am looking for a Legacy 99 rear wiper motor if you see one on your travels. Best wishes Gil
  11. Well I've got the nut off now thanks. I had to saw a slot in it with a hack saw then allow the PB catalyst to do its work. Has anybody got a rear wiper motor (99 Legacy) cheap please, before I try to repair mine? Gil
  12. Many thanks for your helpful reply. On my Legacy, after lifting off the wiper arm, there appears to be a smaller chewed-up nut on top of the large 1 inch nut? Is it a locknut? Not that I can get that off either! Gil
  13. Hello. Rear wiper motor on Legacy has burnt out. Have removed top nut and wiper arm, rest is rusted solid mass. Is there a small nut on top of the 1 inch nut or is it a seal? How can I remove 1 inch nut (without breaking glass)? Have tried PB catalyst. Gil
  14. Hi the rear wiper on my 99 Legacy Wagon doesn't work. Front wipers work. Earth to motor frame is OK. Unplugged motor, no voltage on any of wiring plug contacts when switch operated. Should I look at relay next please? Where is it please? Have wiring diagram last page in Haynes! Gil
  15. Hello - You guys have been great help to me with my 2 Legacies, so here's an offer you can't refuse - I replaced my Legacy Cruise switch complete with bulbs, then I found I could replace just the bulbs, so now I have a spare cruise switch in which I have replaced the bulbs with new ones in new holders. The switch pops out (and in) without dismantling any other parts. Any offers? (New switch cost $28 + tax and bulbs in holders $5) Gil gcleeton@hotmail.com
  16. By the way this is no comfort now but you can get the cruise switch out without dismantling anything else. Just a thin screwdriver above or below the switch will bring it out (I can't remember above or below!) Gil
  17. Until yesterday I always thought my 96 and 99 Legacies were the most directionally stable cars, but I had only been driving with one passenger. Yesterday I had a full car on a long journey in my 96 Legacy and both I and my co-driver noticed the car was weaving and needed constant small corrections. Any similar experiences or advice please? Gil
  18. In driver side door of my 99 Legacy, the lock operates with the key fob, but when I insert the key, although the key will move in either direction, the door won't lock. Do you have any diagnosis please? Gil
  19. Hi I have 96 and 99 Legacy Wagons. I need speedometer for the 99 Legacy please cheap but working. It has RED pointer and its part number is 85020AC330, (NOT one with white pointer 85020AC220, which is for pre-99 and not interchangeabale - I can get plenty of those on ebay but not the one I need of course !). (My speedo is, like some others, intermittent, and like others the cruise works and sometimes speedo if I hit washer button or odometer trip, but my wife doesn't like doing that!) Thanks Gil
