Yeah, I lived within walking distance of Braddock and Backlick. Used to walk to the shopping center there. . . IIRC, it was called Bradlick Center. -

Dang, you are in Springfield? where? I grew up there. . . OK, I'm assuming you have the trim off and the 6 screws out. Now just pull it straight out and disconnect the two plugs in the back, then it is out. -

6, actually. 4 that you can see, and two that are deeper (inset) between the top and bottom ones on each side. -
You seem to be forgetting the EJ33 (I think that is what went into the SVX). While this was also a rare beast, they have made H-6 engines before. I have been working on SVX's for the last couple of days, and they weere built like tanks. The weak point in that car was the tranny, not the engine. It saddens me that there were not more of them made. They were an excelent answer to the Corvette. . . Anyone that needs SVX parts send me a PM, by the way. I may be able to hook you up. . .

I'll add my vote for Craftsman. Get a 150 piece set or so, in the plastic case, and it should be a very good start. I would also recomend a 22" 1/2"drive "breaker bar". Those things are damn near indestructable. . . I was struggling with a particularly badly frozen nut (No it was not me) and ended up lifting the car off the jackstand by the breaker bar and a "cheater" (long pipe). . . Granted this was on a Honda, but just the same. . . When I let go and the car moved back into place, I decided that nut did not really have to come off if it was gonna give me that kind of trouble. . .

I think that last was sarcasm. . . No real experience with the newer Soobies, but my '92 handles like it is bolted to the road, and as far as I have been able to determine (after 145Kmiles) all but indestructable. Nicely quick on acceleration, and power to spare on hills. Oh, and everything still works on the car (except the A/C. . .the compressor just blew recently. I plan on upgrading to a system that I can get refrigerant for. . .) Of the three, which would I buy new? A Subaru, hands down. I do most of my own work and the Subaru is the easiest engine I have ever worked on.

Simple: He was too stupid not to! cannonball, I recomend that you do your own work as much as you can. The Boxer engine is bone simple to work on, compared to a lot of other engines I have seen (well, every other engine I have seen is more complicated/dificult. . . ) The only time I ever heard that sound was from a transmission mount that was not torqued down (or even tightened, to be honest. I corrected that one quickly!)

When mine went it locked up the belt (belt gave off a squeal like a banshee, and I could smell it burning), then gave off a sound like piston slap from hell (once the belt started moving again). . . . I'm pretty sure it is the pump in my case. . . No way it is the heater fan. Too loud, wrong kind of sound, and it was coming from the wrong place (engine compartment instead of the cabin)

I just had this happen to me. My system is R12 and it is getting very hard to get R12 to put in it. I'm sure that the compressor is blown on mine, so I'm going to convert the system to R134 with a lot of new parts. . . Talking on the order of $300 to $400 here. . . Just a new pump should be less however.

I was in the Army in Wisconsin in '84, and we got Jan 20th off for the Inauguration. Heard a report that said that the parade had been canceled due to "bitter cold winter weather" because of a wind chill of -17. I called my dad right up (he was working in the Pentagon at the time), and asked him how he was enjoying his heat wave. . . Local weather was -28F before the wind chill (which brought it down to -54F). . . This is a place where a brand new T bird cracked thew block from frozen coolant/antifreeze while driving on the freeway, after it had been running at normal operating temp at the dealership. Reports said that the owner saw the temp guage dropping steadily intill it buried itself in the cold side, then the engine stopped. . . Cracked block. Anyone want to guess why I say that California does not get cold? Oh, and my '92 Legacy starts just fine, but it does not get cold enough here to really test it. . .

When you have kids (even one) there is also the aspect of hualing everyone elses kids around as well ("Soccer Moms" comes from this frequent event), to save on fuel and emmissions in the long run. Because of this, you will have need to carry more than just your one or two kids at any one time. That is the reason for the need for more seating in the B9. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the B9 in a showroom. It will be some time before I can afford a new Subaru of any type, so I'm hoping that I will be able to get one of these used. . . THat will be a while, though. For those whose main complaint is that the B9 is ugly, I have a simple reminder: Subaru has a 5 year cycle where they change the appearance (sometimes drasticly), and I'm certain that the "looks" of the Tribeca is a temporary thing at best. . .

Is there any other problem with this stuff, besides that you get crappy milage? I can verify that the milage takes a major dive with this stuff in the tank. I was using cheapie gas for a while that had this in it (it was also $0.12 cheaper than anything else on the market at the time. Once the rest of the stations dropped thier prices to the same as that one, I stopped using them.) and my milage was horrible. . . Down below 20MPG combined. I usually get 24 combined. . . Once I went back to Arco, the milage went back to normal. . .

I'm wondering if there is any long term problems with Subarus and using gas with MTBE (or other additives) in it? Most of the stations around here are using gas with MTBE in it (Only a few are not), and I have heard in other forums that it can eat some of the fuel delivery systems, particularly on older cars. . . Does anyone have info on these issues?

What the h3ll are they putting on the roads up there that is causing this kind of deteriation on th nuts holding the rear wiper motor onto the liftgate?!?! I can understand perhaps exaust bolts (the ones that attach the Y-Pipe to the rest of the exaust), but they are in a pretty extreme environment. . .
