  1. Centrino, You don't need to leave the battery off all night. just disconnect it for 30 minutes. The ODBII connector is to the lower left under the steering wheel. When you connect the battery again. Run the engine for 15 minutes and then take it for a drive.
  2. You need to have the mechanic check for battery charge, battery drain, bad ground. It can be as simple as a light switch stuck open. This sucks.
  3. Sounds like a job for Myth Busters. Hey you guys are you lissening? Love your show, Give use the scoop. With the price of gas, this draw some viewers.
  4. I would get neither. The cost of Subarus is way too much. They drinks gas like a drunks, and the 2 cars you are contemplating look like crap. You don't mention if you need cargo room but I would look elsewhere.
  5. I second that. I have a 95 Legacy. Rotors needed to be resurfaced due to the problem you are describing.
  6. OK. So you tried to save a few $$$$ and changed the timing belt yourself and killed the motor. There is lots of talent on this board but even with all the info they'll provide, they can't do it for you. Do yourself a favor and either get another car or have someone else swap the engine.
  7. Thanks all for your help. I paid Peop boys to install a Bosch Starter. 1 hour labor for 80.00 and the starter was 85.00. A man must know his limitations. Mine is that I do not have long fingers.
  8. OK, I figure I read all I could about removing a starter so I attemped it on my 95 Legacy LS. No sweat, removed all terminals, loosen the top nut. I said hell, this is great. Well not really. I could hardly feel the bottom nut. I could not even put the socket to the bottom nut. I was even questionning if the bottom nut was different from the top. Finally, I gave up. I mean, this is not rocket science. Is the bottom nut accessble from the top? is there a special way to handle it. I was even afraid that if I did take it off, that I could not put it back. Thanks,
  9. I called United Radio at 800 448-0944. They are still looking for the part numbers for mine but they may have that info for yours. Good luck....
  10. Thanks All. After doing a google search on the Part number provided by (Thanks subarunation713) I was able to find this web site which has other year and models of Subaru radios. I hope you'll find it informative. http://www.subaruwest.com/PDF_files/Tech_PDF_Folder/15-102-96.pdf
  11. The knobs on the stock radio are broken. I contacted carstereohelp.com and they gave me a phone number for United Radio. I called them and they are asking me for the model number and manufacturer of the stereo. Does anyone know that information. This is the stock radio for the LS with only a tape deck. The picture on this site is on top. http://carstereohelp.com/subaru.htm Thanks,
  12. You guys are the best. Anyway. I got home and started the sub a few times and the problem is gone. We will see. I will need to take it for a wheel alignment, maybe I'll have them check it.
  13. Battery is less than 2 years old. Starter grinds a bit, does not click. thanks for the info. Now I know that the cost from PB is within reason and the cost from Subaru is robbery. At least for this case.
  14. My starter on the 95 Legacy LS Automatic is going. I have to press the key multiple times before it kicks in. I received a price for repare from a dealer as follow. 270. for the started new and 249. for 3 hours of labor. I also got a price from pep boys for a referb. The total cost was 165.00 including labor. Your opinion on using Pep Boys, Your opinion on refurb, your opinion on the difference in cost. Thanks,
  15. I had that similar noise and it happen to be the tires. Rotating tires may give you more info.
  16. It makes sense when you are towing. The Caliper pushes the outer brake pad and wears out quicker than the inside one. If you do the brakes youself, the you can swap the pads. If not, you might as well replace them all.
  17. Everyone lies because the Subaru doesn't make the cut and you and everyone in this board is objective. Right? We all love our cars. No matter what we own because it's an extension to our ego. But the fact remains, Subarus are lousy in gas and reliability is questionable. At 30K miles, my 95 Legacy had more leaks than I would have like to. But, got them fixed and still love it.
  18. Sounds like the MAST needs to be replaced. I had similar problem and replaced only the mast. Make sure you get a genuine Subaru MAST.
  19. All the knobs on the stock radio are broken from the heat and cold. How do I get replacements?
  20. You are rightn it's your business. But since the cost of your insurance is automatically lowered because of the lights, that makes you a cheat.
  21. The issue is that we all know better than to drive a Subaru AWD with a doughnut. That leaves many of us searching for a matching 5th rim. I was wondering if I can use a full size spare tire I have on the doughnut rim. Is that an acceptable solution or we better of finding a matching rim? My .02 cents. Subaru should either do the right thing and provide a full size spare or bite the bullet and charge the additional money for the full size tire. Are you listening Subaru? Not everyone reads the book.
  22. 95 Legacy LS: Can a full size RE 92 Bridgestone tire replace a doughnut tire? or do I need a matching rim to go along with it?
  23. Ok. We all know that using the seat belt is a good think. It saves more lives than not. However, I don't agree with the law that I must wear one or face a ticket. Who came up with that rule some activist and politician who have nothing better to do than infringing into my privacy? If I should choose not to wear it, then no one should tell me otherwise. Not wearing a seatbelt does not put anyone at risk except those who choose not to wear it so why be ticketted? Children are a different story, they should wear one but ease on the booster seat rule.
