  1. I have 95 legacy AT, and I feel like my transmission is not at the best it could be. I get real close to 6k RPM sometimes, and i think i might be pushing the limits of my car a bit. Also , when the car is still a bit cool, it jerks a bit when it shifts.

Do you guys think i am headed for tranny problems? or is this sound okay? Also, what kind of ATF should I use? Is there a good sythetic fuild recommended, or shoudl i by fuild directly from the dealership? Do i have to change the pan gasket everytime as well?

  2. I have the same car as you, and that is about the mileage I get. I do sometimes get a slight buring smell, but i think that is just oil (i have a slight leak). My rear brake are drum, which i hate by the way.

But back to mileage. I have changed all the plugs, fuel filter, air filter, and O2 sensor, switched to synthetic oil, upped tire pressure to 39 psi, even dropped in some greased lightning fuel system cleaner, and after all this I think I went from 19.5 - 20.0 MPG to 20.0 - 20.5 MPG. I might upgrade to platnium plugs in a little bit. But for the most part I am out of ideas. If you have any, please do share.

  3. I am doubtful that it is a simple fuse issue.

If you are not able to get it fixed for only a few dollars, you might want to consider putting in a new stereo. A CD player would cost you around or even less than $100 for a decent one. If you shop around, sometimes circuit city.good guys/bestbuy...etc...has a deal where if you buy the deck from them, they will install it for free.

  4. I was just surfing some old post and came accross this one. If you still need, I have a little OBD2 reader that hooks up to my laptop. It is pretty neat because it gives me realtime data. Considering you live so close, it would be no big deal for you to pick it up or me to drop it off.

I was going through so much water that my converter cooled below its threshold. Just for proper maintence I have ordered new sensors from Jamie but my code has not returned.

    Thanks for the replies folks.

  5. You too? Not only does my gas guage wander all over the place (mostly depending on how hard I corner), my Low Fuel Indicator "plays peekaboo" at me going on and off several times before finally going on hard, quite a few miles down the road..

I get a lot of the "peekaboo" games with my fuel light indicator as well.

I am getting about 19-20 mpg depending on my driving, regardless of fuel the type of fuel i put in. I am really thinking an O2 sensor will fix my issues, but i can't get the old one out.

  6. Yeah it is possible. I did this not too long ago. Your best bet is to buy a power door lock kit, and then install it. The kit comes with a universal actuator, and some mounts and a brain. Installation is a little time consuming, but if you want, I will email you some pics of my install. The brain also makes adding a keyless system very easy.

The car is most likely not pre-wired for power door locks, but all you need is power from the car, the comes with the door lock kit. You don't need a switfch because the lock is the switch.

    Good luck.

i have manual locks on my 97 OBS.

any ideas on converting to electric locks?

surprised i didn't see anything on this in a search.

can i buy two electric doors and use the parts inside?

is the car be pre-wired to accept the electric door lock connections?

  7. I don't know if they are going down hill. But there are a lot of companies coming into the four wheel drive market. Toyota has the Matrix and lexus something with 4WD, i think honda has a few, including the new acura 3.5 RL...and so on and so fourth. I hardly think Ford is the biggest threat to Subarus market share. Plus, subaru has years of experience in the AWD system...so i count on them for a more reliable AWD car.

  8. You didn't say how many miles you had but I have a 95MY 2.2 (132,000) that did the same thing, including random idle speeds and the O2 code. I reset the computer and dumped 2 bottles of injector cleaner in a fresh tank of gas, then 1 bottle for the next 2 tanks. Idle is back to normal and no CEL.

What kind of fuel injector cleaner did you use? There are just so many on the market, i don't know whats good and what works best. Is it really worth spending the mor money for the expensive ones?

  9. A good fuel injector cleaner added to the gas tank on your next fill up may make a great improvement.

I have always wondered about all these things you can add? Some people say they are good, and others say they do more harm than good or nothing at all. I have heard that the chemicals in these cleaners can wear seals a little faster than normal. What is everybodys take on this?

  10. Do you even mess with the chrome cone? Or do you remove the antenna from the bottom without messing with the chrome cone?

A new antenna shoudl come with a new chrome cone, so might be aloowed to mess this one up. However, i would buy the antenna first to make sure of that. Also, the new cone may not fit properly so doule check that as well.

Oh, and it should screw off, at least that was the way mine worked for the mitsubishi antenna i replaced.

  11. Yeah that is a little crazy. But lucky you, you have one power window. I was thinking of adding power windows to my car, with the spal universal kit, but that is too expensive. So instead I am just doing power locks.

But You might want to check around for other damage, maybe the frame or somethign could be a little bent. It is great that it runs fine, but it is nice to know what is going on with your car.

Also, how many miles do you have on your car...just curious.
