  1. I don't have a manual for my Legacy (I know, I know) and was wondering if there is an order in which one needs to bleed the brakes. i.e. which corner first, second, etc.. Thanks. -Heikki
  2. If the plug wires haven't been changed you may want to do them also. The PCV valve is cheap and easy to replace. -Heikki I bought my '96 with ~98k this past fall and am getting into its maintenance myself. Has about 105k now. I have done plugs (NGK), wires (NGK), PCV valve (FRAM), air filter (FRAM), gear/rear fluids (RedLine) and reg. oil changes. Next up will be fuel filter, timing belts and associated seals. Will be doing brake fluid this weekend when I put in SS lines.
  3. Nice. Looks like you got them at a decent price. I was thinking about bidding on those (the 2 braces and the bar) but since the rear brace was sedan-only it gave me an excuse not to spend money on that. Probably good since I ordered the tires and brake lines yesterday as well. That was enough for one day. Let me know how the braces and bar work out on your car and what kind of a change you notice in the handling. Thanks. -Heikki
  4. When I first put these on my car I backed it out of the garage and thought, man these are REALLY stiff. A few hours and a handful or bumps and corners changed my mind. The ride is great for struts at this price. I stuck with stock springs BTW. -Heikki Next for my budget daily driven corner carver...16" WRX rims and SS brake lines (to be installed by the end of next week - goodbye snow tires). Anyone have recomendations on strut tower braces? I am told that the ride improvement is considerable, especially since I have a wagon. Thoughts? Sources? Off Topic: cool legacy
  5. I have this problem with my snow wheels/tires. The tires are mounted on steel wheels and require open lug nuts for the same reason. They should be availabe at a parts store or from tirerack (part# N7Z NC12x1.25 - for my car). -Heikki
  6. I am pretty sure they were a factory option, and I did find some sources for them in the aftermarket but they were all for 2000+ models. Still frameless I believe? -Heikki
  7. I have seen the same ones, though only on wagons and never in stores. Same deal. Long, one-piece style, doesn't come down very far. Please post if you get any leads. -Heikki
  8. Maybe we shouldn't discuss these mods here so much Looks like 1stSubaruParts has "discounted" the map light kit from $6.00 to $19.95. Just thought that was funny. -Heikki
  9. If anyone would like a copy of the cutting template or installation sheet for the legacy map light kit it can be seen here: http://heikki.home.pipeline.com/autos/legacy/map_light_install/ Might prove usefull for people getting these lights out of junkyard cars (?). Is there a place to archive these? Steve feel free to grab them for your writeup. -Heikki
  10. Definitely a good excuse to pick up a new head unit. I used the clock as mine when I got the car. And the free tuner with head unit and antenna purchase sucked me into Sirius while I was at it. Haven't used the tuner yet, used the CD player twice... Drinks spilling on the HVAC controls and stereo, one of my daily morning fears.... -Heikki
  11. My Legacy had a similar symptom. Turned out to be a bad strut on the rear driver's side corner. The beat strut allowed the wheel to continue bouncing and didn't dampen the oscillations of the spring once it returned from being compressed by the bump/pothole. This caused the wheel to bounce and didn't allow it to plant square on the road for traction. This was the cause in my car. I would imagine a shot bushing could do the same thing. BMXPunk's test is the best method to test. I put in KYB GR-2's. Not the most high performance biut great struts for the price. -Heikki
  12. I received mine earlier this week. Awesome! Thanks again for the great unique shirts at such reasonable prices. -Heikki
  13. Matt. It certainly exists, and as of last week was available from a warehouse. The dealer ordered mine and it came in as usual. The kit looks like this . If they can't seem to get one for you, and you are willing to pay a few bucks for UPS you can try this . It's not the most reliable resource in the world but after a few phone calls I was able to get a new-in-box fog light kit for my Legacy. The dealer only charged me $6.00 for UPS and since it is an obsolete kit sold it to me for $25.00. Just an idea. Sounds like your dealer is worse than mine! -Heikki
  14. I just did the plugs and wires on my car tonight. HUGE difference. $2 NGK V-Groove plugs and good NGK wires. -Heikki
  15. Thanks for posting the part number. I ordered the part from my local dealer (though I hate doing business with them) for $10. I will post again once I get it installed. This is all on the condition that they manage to do something right and get the correct part in. -Heikki
  16. I could only wish that was my car.... The owner of the car, from what I gather, attained essentially every part of the Jap Spec B and applied them to a US model. -Heikki
  17. I know this doesn't answer your question but this is what I wish mine looked like:
  18. Did you need the caliper brackets from the WRX brakes or just the calipers and rotors? Are the stock proportioning valves on your car adjustable or did you install aftermarket adjustables? Is the master cylinder that you were able to adjust aftermarket? Thanks. -Heikki
  19. I am interested in the possibility of a WRX brake swap to my Legacy and was wondering who (if anyone) on the board has done it with success on the 96+ body style Legacy. I found a post here where this was done but unfortunately the poster was a guest and I didn't see mention of the car. I saw some mention of this upgrade on the legacy central board but those guys are primarily dealing with earlier models and I wanted to know if there was a difference. As for the wheel part of my subject line. This seems to be an area of disagreement as far as fitment and rubbing. Has anyone run these wheels with 205/50/16 on the 55mm offset stock WRX wheels mounted to a 95+? Sorry for all the questions. Someday I will learn a bunch of stuff that I can share. Thanks. -Heikki
  20. Has anyone used the Michelin Hydroedge? Seems to rate quite well and I was wondering how it performs. Michelin mentions the word "minivan" in the application listing on their site for this tire. That scares me. How about Traction T/A's? Anyone have experience? -Heikki
  21. I am interested in getting myself a hard copy of the FSM for my car. Anyone know where I can pick this up? Approximate price? I have seen quite a few people selling CD versions on eBay but I would like to have it in print. How are the Haynes manuals for this car? I don't particularly like them in general. Thanks. -Heikki
  22. If I am thinking of the same service, I saw a sign for it at the local Subaru dealer (though I don't trust them to touch my car). Can't remember what they called it. -Heikki
