  1. $0.55 at my dealership. I change them when I have one or its convenient. I have never had leaks though, even with repeated reuse. -Heikki
  2. It's interesting that the dealer told you that a 25% decrease in fuel mileage is insignificant. They gave no possible explanations? At +/- 850 miles a week it would certainly be significant to me... Here in New Jersey I have experienced similar symptoms (though not as severe). I have also been chalking it up to the fact that they are now serving oxygenated gas here for the winter. -Heikki
  3. Man, and I usually try to make a point of spelling somewhat correctly. I guess that's what happens when you are reading/typing on the USMB while trying to get things done at work. At any rate, it is hearsay. Unless, of course, everyone out there feels/knows that Mobil 1 is the best and longest lasting ATF. This would make the comments about the longevity of its performance heresy -Heikki
  4. Redline D4 ATF! Good stuff! I use it in my SHO MT and have had great results. I have heard from some who have used Mobil 1 that the initial results are similar to those of D4 but that it needs to be changed more often to retain these results. This is strictly heresy. -Heikki
  5. My apologies. I didn't realize the avatar would be so offensive . -Heikki
  6. I had a wonderful ($25) rear seat cover for my '88 GL which I purchased at Wal-Mart for this same reason. I believe it was marketed for a mini-truck (i.e. Chevy S-10) bench seat. Only problem may be if you have a 60/40 split rear seat (which the GL did not have). -Heikki
  7. Is it safe to assume that regular maintenance has been done on this car? Spark Plugs & Wires Fuel Filter Air Filter Fuel Injector Cleaner "When it shifts..." AT car? -Heikki
  8. I don't understand the name or the looks! TRIangle BElow CAnal Street? This thing is just plain FUGLY! I hope they don't put that "ant-eater" grill on the new Legacy before I can convince myself to buy one... -Heikki
  9. Most navigation systems utilize a combination of DVD information (the map) and GPS information along with a few other sensors. <ramble> A (very) abridged explanation of how most navigation works: The unit acquires a (sometimes rough) initial position of the vehicle by analyzing received signals from GPS satellite transmissions. It then takes this information and combines it with the distance the vehicle has moved (acquired from the speed sensors + GPS) and the direction the vehicle has moved (acquired from a compass and/or gyro + GPS) to attempt to match its traveled path to a map of known roads (generally stored on DVD, CD, hdd). The system actually does not rely on the GPS information all that much unless it "gets lost" (i.e. travels off-road and cannot be matched to roads nearby). If you are looking for a system which not only tells you where you are, but gives you directions to get somewhere else then there is a whole other complicated mess of processes involved. As for the non-DVD (CD, hdd, etc...) navigation systems, I have heard of some systems which download the map data via satellite link. I have no idea as to the validity of their existence or their performance but that may be the other option you mentioned? I have not see a Lexus system, but have heard that the Acura systems are quite good (they work on something like the process I outlined). My only complaint is the poor map display of the Acura (Alpine) system. It does, however, offer real-time satellite traffic information (for a fee) which is an industry first in the US and could prove to be cool (at least for those interested in automotive tele-matics gadgets). </ramble> -Heikki
  10. I have heard rumors that this will be introduced in the Legacy in '06. It is currently available in Japan, but that unit is a Panasonic and as far as I know Panasonic currently does not have any US Navi systems on the market. -Heikki By GPS I am assuming you mean navigation.
  11. I don't know if my BG experience is helpful at all, but I am running WRX wheels with 205/50/16. They work, but are TIGHT. -Heikki
  12. What service is it due for? Wouldn't it have been a good idea for them to perform it and mark it as such in the car's file? I understand that it's a computer issue, but still... It doesn't look good for them to send a notice stating that you need a service at X miles, when they had the car on the lot for sale with X miles. They claim to know the vehicle, they should have known it was due for service. -Heikki
  13. I don't exactly have a warranty, but on those cold mornings that synthetic sure does wonders in my gear box -Heikki
  14. My '96 has the single port (got the wrong gaskets from the dealer when I did the clutch job and had to go back). Not sure of the production date. Can gladly check next time I am in the car if anyone cares. -Heikki
  15. I tried this oil about a month ago as well, also with the $14 rebate (which paid for oil + filter + a little extra), and was very happy with the results. My car had been leaking/burning a little oil between changes (3,000) but when I pulled the dipstick after 3,000 miles on the maxlife it was still full! My car is a slightly leaky high mileage daily driver that I bought far from new so this stuff is great for me. I haven't used synthetic in this car nor do I plan to. No complaints. -Heikki
  16. I have a set of B/F Traction T/A's as 3-Season tires on my Legacy. Though I can't speak for snow performance the tires are otherwise, in my opinion, one of the best balances between cost/performance/treadlife. Has anyone tried the Michelin HydroEdge? I have heard good things but no personal experiences. Wanted to try them on my last purchase but they don't come lower than 55 profile. Might be a tire worth looking at... -Heikki
  17. We just picked up a set of RSI's. Haven't had too much snow yet to really give them a test but I would say they are a 100% dedicated snow tire. The car that they are being used on has a dedicated set of summer wheels/tires so this isn't really a concern. For another car I was looking at the WRs, but they are more of an all season which appear to be somewhat snow capable, unlike most ALL-seasons. -Heikki
  18. If you come across a set of used steelies for a reasonable price they are worth picking up. With the constant increase in steel prices new ones are getting more expensive by the day.
  19. I generally park my car in a position which allows for the front end to be slightly higer than the rear when purging the air out of the coolant. Don't know how important it really is but I don't think it can hurt any... -Heikki
  20. Cool. I am currently running a Chrysler Crossfire navigation radio in my car (turn-by-turn) but have a laptop with MS Streets & Trips 2005 installed and would like to mess with that a little just to see how a system without dead reckoning performs. Just need to get the details on what antennas the program supports. Do you have a pic of the laptop bracket? -Heikki
  21. What kind of navigation are you using with that yellow GPS antenna? Laptop? -Heikki
