  1. It did have dizzy, but no intake. I left the intake complete and in the engine bay, just folded back onto the spare tire compartment. Dropped the new engine in and bolted it down.
  2. Welp fellas, with the assistance of a buddy, we pulled out the old engine and dropped in the new one today. Only took 4 hours from pushing it into the shop to driving it out.
  3. The engine that's in the car has been down on power for a little better than a year and the oil in it is on the keep full basis, so it needed done anyway.
  4. Actually guys, I have an engine sitting in the shop with 40k on a rebuild that I've been looking for the time to swap in. So I guess now is the time. It'll get new timing belts/tensioners and a water pump before it goes in.
  5. OK guys, I figured it out. And I'm an idiot. I thought the rotor had turned, but it didn't. Left timing belt broke. Thanks for all your help!
  6. The rotor turns as it should. I checked with a timing light, there's spark leaving the coil going into the distributor, but there isn't spark leaving the distributor.
  7. OK, I just re-checked. With the key in the on position I'm getting power to all fuses.
  8. I just checked for spark and there is none. All the fuses are good, but I tried testing for voltage across the IG-COIL fuse and have no power in any key position, including starting.
  9. OK internet, I need your help. Yesterday I was leaving home in my '87 GL wagon (ea82 with carby) I let the car warm up for a few minutes, probably 5 or so, I made it out the driveway and about 1/2 mile down the road and it died. No coughing and sputtering, just died. I ended up towing it home and started looking at it today, with no success. It won't fire on starting fluid or anything, not even a single pop. I didn't have an assistant today, so I couldn't check for spark (tomorrow I should have one). I'm sure it's getting fuel. It got new cap/rotor/plugs/wires less than 2 years ago. This car has the brown colored cap. When I'm cranking the engine, the tachometer bounces a bit and gets quite high (3-4k). I'm wondering if the distributor is bad. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  10. I've been running Castrol 20w50 and MMO through it, along with doing the oil pump real and gasket, it got quieter, but not much change. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Tom
  11. I got the correct video up now, sorry, I was trying to create this thread using my phone, which is almost tits up. Sorry for confusion. Tom
  12. When I post the link to the youtube video it doesn't appear, anyone know how to fix this? Thanks ^Fixed it
  13. The knock sounds like it's in the right top end, it doesn't knock at an idle, but high idle is when it starts. I just finished doing head gaskets in it, and didn't hear it run before I did them. The guy I bought it from (and the guy whose house it was stored at, that was a subaru mechanic) said that it ran really well, it just leaked about a quart of oil per week. The guy I bought it from is my dad's friend so I trust him on that. If anyone has any idea of what it could be, that would be awesome. Check out the link for the video to hear it. Thanks in advance, Tom
  14. They have a 1st gear lockout, so that you don't over rev the engine by downshifting, the solution is to synchronize the rpms with your speed and it should pop right in no problem. (With my car it's about 3000 rpms at 15 mph)
  15. Not trying to b*tch at anyone, but every time i've asked something about rebuilding/improving or other similar topics an ea82, about 1/3 of the response say "ej swap". If I wanted to ej swap that's what I'd be asking about. Now I'm asking if anyone can recommend an ea82 rebuild kit, if you can't provide input on the question, don't say something completely different just to answer. Hope it didn't come off that I'm pissed, I just get tired of reading "ej swap", when I didn't ask about it. Thanks
  16. For those running delta cams, can you please try to answer some questions for me? First off what's the cost of a set (approximately)? Second what kind of grinds do they offer and how do they differ from one another? Third will they work with spfi? I'm looking into these for an off roader so any advice is appreciated. Please nobody say "ej swap". I've heard it too much, I realize the advantages, but do not wish to swap. Thanks in advance, Tom
  17. Anyone know anything about these?http://m.ebay.com/itm/261388567320?nav=SEARCH
  18. Hopefully pistons, rods, all bearings and gaskets and probably valve springs. As it sits it runs but I'm told if you pour oil in, it pours right out from an unknown place. And it's got 337k on the clock, so the more new parts the better.
  19. One of my dad's buddies has an '88 gl wagon for sale that will need rebuilt, he only wants $250 for it so I'm highly considering buying it, but does anyone know where I could get a QUALITY rebuild kit for a REASONABLE price? And while I'm asking, will factory fuel injection and a set of delta cams work together without problems? Thank you ahead of time. -Tom
  20. I found an 83 wagon for really cheap, but it's 2wd, if I bought it and converted it to 4wd could I use a 5 speed d/r out of an ea82 car? And while I'm doing it, could I use the rear diff out of one too?
  21. I've heard that a 2" is hit and miss if you need one or not, did I hear wrong?
  22. I'm about to lift my '87 gl 2" but I'm going to need to extend the steering shaft. I've read somewhere that you don't have to do any welding if you combine power steering and non power steering linkage, which is what I'd like to do, my car is power steering and I have a non ps parts car, I'd like to know which sections of which linkage I need to use. Thanks in advance, Tom
  23. My car does the exact same thing. We narrowed it down to it's running rich, meaning it's getting too much fuel, so it can't burn it all which means some escapes into the exhaust system, and when you shift the change in rpms can cause your engine to shoot flames, meaning that it can ignite the fuel particles that have collected in the exhaust system. And there is no lean rich adjustment on ea82 carbs, you have to re-jet it. My local subaru dealer can't get jets even. Just my 2¢, hope you figure it out, Tom
