  1. Careful replacing just one tire. If the circumference is off by more than a 1/4" from the other tires it can damage the AWD system.
  2. 259k, 93 legacy wagon. Haven't had to do anything too major, clutch, cv boots, ball joints, tie-rod ends, some wheel bearings, etc. Right now I need to change the timing belt and replace a bunch of blown out bushings (mostly my fault for driving on a blown strut or bad ball joint and just driving like a madman on dirt roads) and she should be ready for another 100k. The body is pretty rough these days but she runs strong and takes me to amazing places.
  3. Adventure Wagon!

  4. I couldn't get my axle nuts off without a propane torch and impact gun. I didn't have a good cheater bar though, from what I've read that works for most people.
  5. Where'd you get the assembly for 50 bucks gary? I recently had my front end apart (wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods, CV boots on one side) and my control arm bushings definitely had some play in them (mostly the rear busghing IIRC) but I didn't have the time or money to replace them. Swapping out a whole control arm (assuming the new one come complete with the bushings and everything) doesn't sound too bad especially at 50 bucks a pop. Did my 93 have silicone filled bushings? I didn't see any signs of leakage but that doesn't mean much at this age (255k). Steering is MUCH improved now but I still have a bit of wheel shake and unsteadiness in the front end.
  6. I've gotten bad ones from autozone and o'riellys. Strongly considering preemptively swapping my current o'rielly's one out for a newer subaru. when swapping to the 97 alt where do you get the plug? From a junkyard?
  7. Found it!! Super stoked, thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'm gonna need a longer extension though, the one that was in there is about a half inch too short with my current deck. Here's a picture for reference.
  8. Sweet! I'm gonna go try that right now. Pretty sure the stock deck was unmolested when I pulled it, but who knows.
  9. While removing the stock radio, the antenna extension cable became unplugged. Since then I have been unable to find the end that the 8" or so extension plugs into, leading to the antenna. I've spent at least 4-5 hours on my back peering into the mess of wires under the dash on separate occasions to no avail. Needless to say with just the short cable and a piece of coat hanger taped to it my radio reception sucks. Its been like this for a few years now, but as I'm about to repaint the roof I'm considering removing the stock antenna and figuring out something better than the coat hanger lol. Hooking the antenna back up would definitely be preferred though. So anyone know what I'm talking about? Better yet where the end of the antenna cable is hidden? 93 Legacy wagon, just had a radio stock (no tape deck or CD).
  10. Are the front axles interchangeable? I had read on here that the FWD axles had a different spline count. If its only different on the engine side I guess it wouldn't matter. I wish my car was AWD. I thought about converting it, but at this point I'd be better off getting another car.
  11. My car's been doing this for a while, I usually have to roll the window down to open the door. I fixed it briefly, and since have been too lazy to pull the door panel off again. Connector pieces of the latch and rod are plastic and must shrink as they age, making the pull of the handle too short to pop the latch. At least this was the case on mine. Bending one of the rods to make it longer worked for a while, I guess i didn't bend it far enough though as its pretty intermittent again. To gain access you just have to remove the door panel. There's a couple screws (mostly by the handle I think) and and a bunch of clips around the edge you can carefully pop loose with a screwdriver. Have a friend hold the panel out of the way so you don't have to disconnect the wires.
  12. Autozone saves your warranty information under your phone number usually. An intermittently failing alternator will produce the symptoms you're describing. .
  13. I don't know exactly, I've just seen it mentioned on here various times. I've also read you can use a newer subaru one if you change the plug on the car. Not sure of the details on that one either. I'm sure you can find it through searching and if not someone on here will know. I've been really impressed with this board in the short time I've been on here
  14. Also from what I've read some have the spring pin and some have bolts and nuts. Much easier if yours already has bolts.
  15. I came across this while googleing the same problem. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=753869
  16. I'm on my third reman'd in less than a year (2 from autozone, 1 from oriellys). Wish I'd found this forum earlier and I would have put something else in last time. If this one dies I'm definitely going with a newer subaru or higher amp nissan one. I might even change it out before then, it definitely seems underpowered. Luckily it has a lifetime warranty. If you search this forum you'll find some different options for a replacement.
  17. I'd check out the mount as well as the strut. I had the same thing going on in my wagon (93 legacy fwd 5spd) a couple years ago, was a a blown strut and broken mount. Hitting bumps at high speed was pretty dicey, the rear end would move around quite a bit. Easy enough to check the mounts in a wagon.
