  1. Well the pump could be a dying, but a while back my '89 SPFI fuel pump started making noise. All that I did was remove the pump from the bracket to see if it was clogged. I ended up snapping two of the bolts btw, had to drill them out and retap.

Anyway I reinstalled it with new hardware and the noise was gone, ran fine. Go figure.

  2. Update.

I took Gloyale's advice and bought that tranny on ebay...it was a BRAND NEW 4EAT IN THE CRATE for $99.00!!

I had to drive to Pittsburgh (4 hrs) but it was worth it.

Thank you Gloyale!! I owe you one.

My biggest regret was replacing this tranny by myself in the driveway. I think I "earned" some subie stripes by doing this btw- ha. What a pain in the a@@...

But the wife is happy, her turbo sedan is back on the road.

BTW I have a used 4EAT with only 75K on it needs a new oil pump. Now a lawn ornament...Free!

  3. like i keep saying you like seafoam thats fine. if you guys don't want to save money thats fine also. i know i'm using superior product!!! now thats being a jerk!! how do you like me now. F SEAFOAM IT'S FING JUNK!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Well I'm sold with an endorsment like that!!

Gotta find me some Conklin now...

  4. 88 GL-10 Turbo Sedan with 4EAT FT 4WD lost all foward momentum the other day on the highway, tach went up like crazy. Pulled over, no movement in any drive even reverse.

ATF fluid was fine, I had just replaced the fluid because of noise, had a loud whirring noise from the tranny a week earlier.

Towed home, after it cooled off it was drivable around the block but was sluggish at best, losing power as I went. Whirring noise still there.

I'm not very knowledgeable about auto tranny's in general as I've always had MT, I bought this car for my wife who has tendonitous in her right arm.

Any suggestions of what to look at in troubleshooting?

(Converting to MT is not an option right now)

    Thanks.

  5. We're going to bring the TurboWagon, and the Brat even though still needs some body work and general TLC. (The daily commuters and RX project taking up my time...)

Remind Mrs Whirly to write down the recipe for her vodka induced bean dip....yummy!!!!! That stuff was the best.

It appears like this years turn out is going to be really good!

We'll try to make some more bean dip if we can remember the recipe! :-p

  6. Have you had the OBS on narrow dedicated snow tires? :)

It seems the GL's are more likely to seem more capable in snow because of a couple of things: factory clearance is high, low hanging plastic plow creating content is low, tires are naturally narrow with 13" wheels, and dedicated snow tires (+wheels) are very cheap to come by in said 13" size... and not to mention lower power feels like it equals more traction.

But my sport sedan with the correct tires rocked! :burnout:

I haven't tried "dedicated" snow tires on the OBS-maybe I should give it a try.

Of course, I don't have dedicated snows on my old GL EITHER...and it seems to do fine in the snow.
