  1. Hey all, My EA71 with weber has been running pretty lean. Lean enough that its tough to start once its been sitting for a few days. Does anyone have a guide for adjusting the fuel/air mixture? Now Idea which adjustment to even start with or where its located.
  2. Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone could lend a hand if running a free vehicle history report on a VIN from 77. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Just a small update, had it smog checked. Made some adjustments and it is running better than ever while passing with flying colors. I swear it has to run cleaner than a prius now. All the measured numbers came in substantially lower than the average numbers.
  4. Would you be willing to have a template made so the community as a whole could reproduce the entire carpet? I'd love to have carpet in the bed but I'd rather have new/clean/fresh indoor/outdoor carpet.
  5. What a beautiful day! Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr
  6. Thank you very much for the kind words. My goal in saving her really was to pay the Brat the respect that they usually don't get. Kevin was a super nice guy, he's still got some misc parts. I think he said a few radiators and a transmissions for a 75 coupe 2wd (I think). Since you are in Cali, we should setup a weekend cruise up PCH with a few fellow group members. I bet that would be awesome. And the obligatory welcome home shot.
  7. Thank you for the heads up. I didn't realize it works like that (but it does!). https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/vr_info#BM2514 Link for reference. I'll be paying the reg tonight and smogging sometime next month.
  8. Thanks for this. I did a quick search and there are def a few options that are cheaper than the place we found in Idaho. They wanted $350+65 shipping. Found one local for a fraction of that price. Just trucked it over to my builders so we'll see if the parts check out okay. Hope to have her back on the road soon. To make things more complicated, my registration is due on the 1st (which includes a smog check). I won't have the time to get it all back together and have it smogged before the registration is due. Looks like I'll need to Non-Op it and then handle the smog check after my dead line.
  9. Turns out the ring/pinion wont fit on the shaft. I'm back to looking for a true correct ring/pinion set or another transmission. Datsunrides & SubyFreak, you have PM.
  10. After all this, I found out that the builder couldn't use the parts after all. The shaft that the pinion is pressed into has a slightly smaller diameter and can't be used. So now I'm back to hunting for new parts or buying a used transmission. Can anyone help?
  11. Major update: I spoke to the builder. The exact part that broke was the ring & pinion. Nothing else in the transmission was damaged. The EA71 4wd Transmission uses a 9 tooth spiral pinion and 35 tooth ring gear. It turns out the extra transmission I had laying around (unknown model) used the exact same ring & pinion as the EA71 4wd Transmission. The builder is checking the gears to make sure they are perfect. His actual words were, "beautiful" when he saw them. haha. Brat should be back on the road in no time! Just wanted to post this here in case anyone ever had a similar issue.

  14. Awesome, thank you. I'll let you know. I actually do have this one. Question. Can I use the ring & pinion from this transmission and put it in a rebuilt EA71 transmission? Any idea if the ring & pinion are the same spec between the pictured transmission and the EA71 transmission? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/146568-what-transmission-did-i-just-buy/
  15. Just wanted to follow up on this since I forgot I posted. Some of the grease from the steering shaft got on the contacts of the steering wheel which was interrupting the circuit. Wiped it down and works perfect again.
  16. Okay, huge news here. I obviously can't use this transmission itself. But my current EA71 transmission is being rebuilt but I am unable to track down a ring & pinion gear. Question. Can I use the ring & pinion from this transmission for the EA71 transmission that came out of my 1978 Brat?
  17. Thank you. Yeah its the 1600. I was really hoping to rebuild with all new parts but it doesn't sound like that will be a possibility. I just called Danny, and he doesn't have anything as he sold to someone in Virginia a few years ago.
  18. Just got the call. The builder is unable to track down 2 gears. (I should know which two tonight). Anyone have any leads of replacement gear sets? My other option is to have gears made. I'm also reaching out to my contact that had my 1909 Pierce Arrow differential gear created to see how much it would cost.

  20. Yeah, I've been waiting on 3 different sources to let me know how much it would be to ship a used transmissions. Brat's around these parts are pretty much non-existent. The going rate for the actual transmission sounds to be $100, but shipping on the other hand...
