  1. Hello, I've searched all over and have not found a solution to my issue. I have a 98 legacy outback 2.5 ej25 and the alternator doesn't seem to be recharging my battery, causing the car to slowly die. A new alternator had no change. Old alternator and new alternator both tested good at Autozone. Battery did too. I have no battery warning light when ign is on, but the bulb isn't burnt. Trying to ground the black and white wire from alternator plug doesn't trigger the light either. Right now both alternators only put out roughly 11.98v. Going to try better grounds tonight and see if it helps. I've read people bypassing the warning light but no one goes in depth on how to do it. Anyone care to explain? Anyone know the solution?
  2. I've checked the boots, they're clean. Ive also switched around injectors. No change
  3. The coil pack has the male end that plugs into a female end of the wire. Not sure how to move them front to back. But they're brand new plugs and wires I JUST put in two weeks ago when the issue came up. I'll take a look at the igniter and fuel filters next.
  4. What would be the reason the igniter going bad? The car functions fine until I reach (higher) highway speeds or extremely high rpm and it throws a blinking CEL. Then it goes solid if I bring the RPMs back down. Accelerate back up to 3.5k rpm and it starts blinking and goes solid.
  5. Headgasket was done less than 1k miles ago. (Although, the quality of job is questionable)
  6. I purchased the car about 3 months ago. Air filter looks clean, fuel filter not sure. Timing belt unsure, previous owner I believe did say something about it being done. The car is around 148,xxx.
  7. Hello! Recently a CEL popped up blinking while on the highway. Pulling the code, it was a cylinder 3 and 4 misfire. This is a 1998 Subaru Legacy outback Funny thing is, the blinking CEL only pops up when RPMs are above 3k or at 70+mph . Even so, there is no audible noise or power loss when the light comes on. If I drive local and stay off the highway, the CEL came on ONCE and it came on when I was holding a high RPM. No funny engine noises when the light blinks though. Ive replaced the Plugs with NGK Plats. and Wires to NGKs. Replaced coil pack as well. Switched around injectors and still have a 3 and 4 misfire. Reading up on the exhaust dollar trick it seems that I do have suction though. Not sure what to do or anything else I can try before bringing it in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Accelerate back up to 3.5+k rpm in 5th gear and it starts blinking and goes solid and it'll stay solid if I'm driving local roads. No misfire noise, no shrudder, no loss of power.
  8. Update: Just tried again, held down the throttle and it fired right up! Going to test drive on the freeway, wish me luck! Extremely excited right now. Thanks FairTax!
  9. I let the plugs sit for about 30-45 minutes. (Now guessing that that wasn't enough.) I tried at night when I put everything back together, no go. I tried again today at noon. Same thing, turns over, no start. Yes, I primed the fuel rail many times. As in holding down the gas pedal? Yes I tried that. How long should I be holding the key on crank for? I'm afraid I might damage something. Fuel pump is working, I pulled a line from the fuel filter to confirm that fuel was flowing when I set the key to on.
  10. Sorry for reviving this this thread. I ran into the same exact issue as ThatSubaruKid I had an issue with misfire and wanted to switch around the injectors to see if it would change the misfiring cylinders, guess I didn't clear the fuel well enough and fuel got into the motor. Motor just clunked and I googled around and found this thread. edit: I also forgot to disconnect the battery when pulling the injectors, would that have caused anything? Followed FairTax4me's advice I pulled the fuel rail/injectors and plugs which were soaked in fuel and cranked the motor which then was not seized and fuel shot out of the motor. I put everything back and tried cranking the motor. It turns over but doesn't fire up. I didn't replace the soaked plugs because I just had them installed less than 200 miles ago and they looked clean when I pulled them. Could the fuel ruined the plugs? Could my injectors be damaged? HELP!~
