  1. I found NGK wires on ebay for my 97 Subaru Legacy Outback for 10$ less than what Autozone wanted for Bosch wires!!!!!!!
  2. That was going to be my thought.. my truck makes horrible grinding noises, every now and then, when bearings are going bad. But if I am not mistaken you can test bearings by jacking up car and wiggling tire... ?
  3. Not trying to be rude, so please don't take the wrong way.. But before I would do any cosmetic work I would do a tune up, assuming you don't know much history on the cars up keep. Change spark plugs, wires, fuel and air filter, check/ change fluids. My opinion if the exhaust and air intake aren't broken why replace? Exhausts get expensive, unsure of how much money you have to put in car. I'm not an expert but I do not think you will get the same "kick" as you said the Camry was turbo charged. Hope you the best with your new Subbie!!
  4. I think there is something clogging up my fuel line.. every now and then the car will act up and not go when I give it gas it just sputters out. Have to give it h*ll til it revs up then it is fine. My question is can I just take it any where to have it flushed? Completely lost. Thanks! 97 Subaru Legacy Outback
  5. Well, I went to Autozone and I asked for Bosch plugs and wires, man told me they didnt have wires had to order from manufacturer... I found NGK wires on ebay new cost less than the Bosch ones did.. I did buy some Bosch plugs. Wondering if I should return them because Advanced Auto Parts website says I can get Bosch Platinum+4 for the same price I paid for just Bosch platinum. The man did act like I was dumb because I am a female, he even commented on being impressed that I knew what I was talking about even though I am a girl. All people have to do is research before they invest in things. But he tried to sell me the cheapest he had and that's def one thing I have learned about vehicles, you DO NOT buy the cheapest.
  6. I was looking online, it seems there are 2 different "style" wires for my year.. The only difference I found is on the end that connects to the ignition coil one set is straight and the other bends. Does it really matter? Figured I would take car with me to parts store today. Was looking at Bosch and Duralast gold wires.. and Bosch plugs... bad idea? ""Except that, "officially", he is living in the South. Well, south of the Mason-Dixon anyways."" Yes, she lives in Virginia!!!!
  7. Thank you! I am going to replace the plugs and wires to see if that may help with the sputter. I'll see what I can see under there this weekend. Yea, gonna go check out junk yard! Thank you!
  8. So, I was having an issue with it sputtering really bad, and I took it to a mechanic. He said his computer was showing a Map sensor, he replaced MAP and an o2 sensor. Computer was still reading sensors, so he replaced the corroded wires, computer isnt reading any codes now. Running fine, did a little sputter on me the other day, not near as bad! When I let my foot off the gas I hear this horrible metal rattle, its comeing from under the hood somewhere, is this normal in Subarus? I know there are some normal rattles. When I fill up the gas tank it leaks, the filler hose/pipe is rusted.. is there anywhere I can buy one? Thanks for taking the time to read!!
  9. Thank you! I know it's not a very good excuse but this is my second vehicle. I have owned my first, a Ford Ranger, since 08 but I just had a baby so I need a car and I have read some really good reviews on Subarus. My grandfather sold me the truck and it was very well maintained. Should have been common sense to check those first though. But I am kind of curious to find out why it runs perfectly after it has been sitting for a day or 2. Hopefully mechanic can help me out before I go replacing things that are fine.
  10. Car has a little over 193,000 miles on it. Man that sold it to me told me he replaced the timing belt, head gasket, shaved heads, and water pump.
  11. I have owned my 97 Subaru Legacy Outback about 2 weeks. Whe I went to test drive it twice before I bought it, it ran perfectly. After I got it street legal I drove it to work, it did great that morning driving to work however, on my way home that evening it did not want to start, finally got it started, gave it h*ll and it idled right, going down the road it started sputtering and jerking real bad for a short period of time. Got home let it sit for a day. Took it out again with a friend to see if it would do it again, on the way to town... fine... going around town started acting up again, didnt want to start, sputtering for short periods of time. Friend said maybe something is clogging fuel filter, so I replaced it. Let it sit for a couple days, took it to work again, did great on the way to work!... however again on my way home I stopped at a light, was acting like it wanted to stall out so I pulled into a parking lot, did not htink I was going to make it into parking lot. Turned it off for a while to let it 'rest'. Took forever to get it home this time, this time it didnt stop sputtering, kept stalling out. If kept it about 2,000 RPMs it did a little better. It backfired twice ont he way home. I have not seen the check engine light come on, but I can tell it was on at some point bc you can see the sticky residue left over from a piece of tape. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! The only thing I have replaced at this point is the fuel filter and rear brakes. Going to get a mechanic to look at it today, but figured maybe I could see if anyone has had this problem.
