  1. will a 2007 imprezza auto work in a 2001 legacy auto? am i right in thinking the only difference is the transfer clutch solenoid being reversed in the tail housing? i have a chance to get an imprezza transmission free for my yard car witch has a slipping transmission. i dont mind swapping that solenoid if thats all thats different
  2. well its a first for me. found the issue for the fogs not working and also explains the burning smell i had a while ago. both hid bulbs in the fog lights the wires burned off from the bulbs and both ballasts melted and the whole setup kinda self destructed. i stuck my old led setup back into there and the fogs are working again.
  3. i have not had a chance to look too deep into this yet. i have checked the fuse and tried tapping on the relay with no luck. fog lights are not coming on at all both went out at the same time. it may be connected to the burning smell i was having last week as i know the fogs were working when i was smelling the burning smell and now that the smell stopped the fogs are no longer working. changing the belt might have not been the issue. what should i check into to diagnose this further?
  4. i jumped on it blowing up to soon. when it first happened i looked under it with the rear tires spinning and did not see the front axles turning so thought it blew up. i did look again after and noticed the drivers axle pulled out of the transmission. my fault i just swapped the legacy struts for outback struts in front and it likely pulled out a bit while it was apart then came out when i tried to drive into the yard. i got it back together and it is working again.
  5. well it was fun while it lasted. the cars now stuck in my snow filled yard the front diff seems to have blown up because only the rear tires turn now. i wasent even pushing it hard i literally just eased into the snow filled yard got about 2 car lengths in then there was a small pop/clunk sound and the front wheels stopped receiving power. if anyone in ct has a junk transmission that still worked i would love to acquire it for my yard beater.
  6. i think it was the belt. i did not notice the smell yesterday during the 2 hours of driving with every electronic on i could turn on.
  7. i actually have checked the headlight connectors the first night wiring was cool to touch no melting at the headlights. timing belt looks good i changed the alternator belt and well see if that makes a difference today the old one was a bit stretched
  8. the timing belt pulleys and pump are a year old. i could pull a cover to look at it in the morning
  9. Axles are not leaking grease the car has 0 oil leaks i had the engine out last year and did all gaskets under side of the car is dry minus a weeping transmission. The smell was non existant driving home until i stopped at a store. Headlights were not on before store when i left i turned the lights on and immediately started smelling it
  10. The smell went away after few min must have been left over from last night. It was on and off for the drive to work. Still not seeing any obvious source
  11. just started it smell came back almost instantly alternator cable is tight. i do have an alternator belt that squeels for a moment when first started but it stops squeeling within 5 or so seconds could it be belt im smelling?
  12. its a 2001 outback. today on the way home i noticed an odd rubber like burning smell first smelled it about 10 min after leaving work but it went away and figured it was something i passed by or was following but then about 2 miles from home the smell came back and got stronger. not really sure what it could be i could not find any warm wires no smoke anywhere exhaust smelled normal but the car was definitely making a burning rubber like smell. any ideas what it could have been?
  13. so this thing leaks massive amounts of fluids. might have to actually replace a couple more gaskets lol. when we built it the only parts that got replaced were the head gaskets and the torque converter seal. every other gasket got re used.
  14. This car has paid off now a few times. Its hauled a bunch of wood and it became a plow this morning and plowed throgh a foot of snow
  15. not a farm no just have a bunch of woods behind the house and some trails with a bunch of downed trees that need to get back up the hill to the house. ended up using the cooler in the radiator i repaired.
  16. Got the beast running yesterday ended up not able to use the radiator I planned to and gorilla glued the crack on the other radiator. Its holding for now
  17. Im building a yard car to haul firewood up to the house using all the junk parts from around the house. The radiator i have has a leaky trans cooler but holds coolant fine. Im not planning to put ac on this car can i use the condenser as a transmission cooler? Would there be any downside to this or would it just work
  18. well the rear end was alot more alive than its felt in a long time i do believe it is working now and not just kind of working like before
  19. well you were right there about an axle. i never noticed it until today while i was under there starting the process of swapping the diff because i thought i had an open diff and i noticed the axle not seated fully got it re set in place and found out i already have a lsd rear diff. guess ill find out if awd is fixed tomarrow
  20. and yet at the same time it seems to be working more than it was because if i back the car into a snow bank in the driveway then go forward the rears do spin a bit but the front definetly gets way more power than the rear
  21. Well I'm kind of at a loss of why it doesn't work right to me I just swapped the entire rear housing over from another transmission that had a bad front diff and While on Jack stands and the emergency brake set the all wheel drive will engage and overcome the emergency brake and spin the rear wheels spinning Fast too but if it's on the ground the front wheels just break free and spin the rear wheels just seem to follow along I'm confused and lost
  22. i have a plan going. i still have another transmission here with a bad front diff. im going to pull it apart tomarrow after work and check the basket in it. if that one is good im going to use that transmissions basket and use the clutch pack from my original transmission that did work with new seals on it. im gonna pick up the seals and another gasket monday
  23. I saw a picture of that on the transmission side basket. I dident think to look at mine while it was apart. Its just odd to me that it engages with the car on jack stands but not on the ground. Dealer dident have the ring seals so probly gonna have to order those online
  24. well im going to get another gasket set and the ring seals and hope thats what it is. seems to be the only logical thing it could be.
  25. update. removing the yellow/green stripe wire from the tcu yields no change definitely not getting torque bind ither with the duty c disconnected. according tot he wiring diagram for 2001 outback the yellow/green stripe wire should be the duty c solenoid. what els can fail in this system? could the clutches be compromised somehow even though they look in great shape? how likely could the 2 seals on the shaft fail that direct the fluid into the clutch pack?
