  1. Great. I have the wheel, and the PB guy told me he had a bearing while I was still there. I'd like to drive up Friday, and if possible stop by DFW to pick up the hub, nut and lugs, on my way to CO. Let me know if you have that plate that goes behind the brake pads (what's it called?), since I ground it up a bit. Thanks!
  2. Update. See thread about towing disaster (which had nothing to do with the tow bar setup): http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37058Anyhow, I drilled four 1/2" holes (2 per mounting bracket) right through the front of the bumber, as close as possible to the bumber's brackets. Then I attached the tow bar brackets at the holes. Hooked everything up and it worked just fine. I even went up a pretty steep incline in Colorado Springs just before the mishap described in the other thread. My biggest concern was whether or not the tow bar bracket bolts would come right through the bumper metal under pressure. The bolts/brackets held up just fine. Thanks for all the help about towing. I'll be back in Colorado Springs next weekend to bring the wagon. Again.
  3. Towing the wagon out of Colorado Springs, the rear driver side wheel rolled away never to be found again. The wheel was last known to exist at or about the intersection of Academy and Marion. I was towing the wagon when I heard a thunk and looked in my mirror and noticed the wagon was tilted. I towed the wagon into an empty dealer parking lot and upon closer inspection what I thought was a flat turned out to be the missing wheel. All that's left is the plate that holds the break shoe. Apparently missing are (1) wheel with lug nuts; (2) drum/hub; (3) bearing; and (4) spindle nut. I had it towed to a PB about a mile away, and there it sits waiting for parts. I'm back in Houston, w/o the wagon. The service guy is supposed to call me with an estimate. So depending on what he can or can't find, or what he wants a fortune for, I'm "thinking" of buying the parts from members. If anyone thinks I'm missing something other than what I listed above, let me know, since I'll need that part as well. (Cotter pin, for example). It's a 79 4WD. Did I forget to thank the wonderful people of Colorado Springs? I walked around, then drove around, looking for that wheel. Someone must have picked it up just for the fun of it because it VANISHED, along with the drum, and lug nuts and hub cap. Maybe the wheel was abducted by aliens. Thanks.
  4. You're in Arizona? Is your 1600 2WD or 4WD? By the way, Friday night 5/27 I drive to CO to pick up the wagon. Hopefully all works out with the tow bar, etc.
  5. (at the office). Can't wait 'til quitting time to open the box and enjoy.
  6. Todd, you mean this one, right? By the way, you guys are awesome. This looks so flimsy I think I'd be better off drilling holes through the front of the bumper to attach the tow bar brackets. Thanks all again, Ennio
  7. Thanks! They look just like the ones on the 78 2x4 wagon. Maybe the 78 2x4 bracket is the same as the 80 4WD bracket, but different from the 79 2WD bracket? Hmmmm
  8. I don't mind the Non-Profit owning my wagons, as long as I keep them in MY possession and care in trust for the Non-Profit....
  9. Okay. Got it. Does anyone have a picture of a 70s Brat front bumper bracket (assuming it's the same as a 4WD wagon bumper bracket), or of a 4WD wagon front bumper bracket, with the bumper removed? I might have to fabricate something to adapt the tow bar to the front bumper bracket (bumper removed), and right now I'm kind of working in the dark. Thanks!
  10. Someone (Todd?) mentioned the 4WDs have different bumpers or brackets than a regular 2x4 wagon. This link http://hometown.aol.com/enniodiaz/index.html shows the brackets of the 2x4 I worked on last last year. Does anyone know if they are the same on a 4X4? Can someone post or link to a picture of a 4WD's front bumper brackets? Thanks.
  11. Someone post or email me a picture of 79 wagon wheel. I need to hit the used wheel stores or junk yards for a pair of good wheels. The wagon I'm picking up in CO does not have a spare. And since I'm doing this with a tow bar, I though it might be a good idea to have two spares for the 900 mile drive back. Also, let me know if there's any special markings or i.d. numbers on the wheels. Thanks, Ennio
  12. I'm looking at pictures of the 78 and 79 wagons, and it looks like I'll have to remove the front bumper in order to attach the tow bar brackets to the bumper brackets underneath.
  13. Well, now I don't remember if it's 5 or 4 speed. I'm looking at a tow bar that supposedly attaches right to the bumper bolts and doesn't need a "bracket." Which is why I was asking about it.

  15. Yeah, forgot,, it's a 5 spd manual. How about connecting the tow bar to the bumber, any experience/suggestions? Thanks.

  17. I'm considering towing a 79 4WD wagon 900 miles with an adjustable tow bar. Has anyone tried this? What experience has anyone had? any suggestions regarding whether or not to disconnect the shafts all around? just the front? Thanks, Cricket

  19. Oh man! That's what I'm looking for. Those wheels/tires definitely are NOT stock. What are they? (I'm guessing they don't come with the kit!).
  20. Very funny. BTW, I'll be picking up the wagon in Security, CO, and towing it back to Houston soon.
