  1. nice, sounds like a V8 with a thrush. (had a Charger with a thrush a long long long time ago).
  2. It's not REALLY rust free. I'm just kidding about sellers who advertise a "texas car" and it turns out to be a rust bucket formerly from the northeast or the other rustbelt states. Pictures of "rust free" "texas wagon": http://hometown.aol.com/enniodiaz/wagoncomeshome.html Click on "before pictures" at the bottom of the page.
  3. Got my texas title to the 1979 wagon today, finally. Now it's completely legal. AND, when (if ever!) I sell the wagon, I can say it's a "Rust Free Texas Wagon!".
  4. There's a early 80s hardtop parked in a driveway near my house. It's been sitting there for years. I'm curious as to how much it might be worth assuming it's in running condition and has no major issues. http://usmb.net/gallery/album74/1981_a?full=1
  5. guy: "....hmm, now I can do that rural mail route..." guy: "that hill. that hill. I don't think we'll make it back up that hill."
  6. something doesn't seem right. someone has to come up with a funny caption for this picture.
  7. I got my parts list in the mail yesterday and noticed the rocker panels are (or were, at least at some time in the past) available as separate parts. Does anyone here have NOS rocker panels sitting around? I also might need the mouldings for both sides (I trashed the ones that came with the wagon b/c they were too beat up). I have not decided whether to cover the holes or install new moulding. Thanks.
  8. The dealer might say the part's obsolete. However, if you have the part number, you give the counter person the part number and he/she might be able to get it for you from your distribution center. It might even be on the shelf in back. I've learned "obsolete" means "I don't have a parts list for it and I'm NOT going to go the extra mile to find one for you."
  9. link regarding island subaru: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49383
  10. the Orcas Island Subaru looks much better. How about buy that one?
  11. I also got a Texas registration and license plates. Now it's officially "legal."
  12. ebay/craigslist listings thread is at: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=38
  13. Someone explain this MSD ignition deal? what's it?
  14. Okay, okay, okay. I broke my diet and stopped at a couple of fast food places both ways. And gas stations too. Busted!
  15. I made it to Victoria and back today. A three hour drive, and not a single problem. I'm really impressed with the wagon. I couldn't tell how fast I was going (no speedometer), but it felt like 60 mph and FLYING. I'm starting body work this week. Pictures of the wagon in Victoria, Victoria County, Texas (Victoria County Courthouse in background--what an ODD sight): http://hometown.aol.com/enniodiaz/victoriacountycourthouse.html
  16. I replaced the timing hole cover today and now realize that hole's been open for who knows how long. Any chance that any damage's been done?
  17. ...and that explains that draft coming from under the dashboard!
  18. My guess is the clutch boot and timing cover are spares (I hope! I'll have to check). I have a bad feeling I have to once again take out the evaporator from under the dashboard, install the vent cover, and reinstall everything--bummer. Thanks again.
  19. When I bought the 79 wagon, the a/c-heater unit and parts were dangling from the dashboard. Yesterday I put it back together (best I could) and ended up with two spare parts. I'm going to look through my Chilton, to see if I find them. But if you recognize them by sight, I'd appreciate your input. There's a rubber boot, a rubber shell-looking thing, and a cap. My guess is the boot goes on the metal things that open and close the vent at the firewall. I have no idea what the other things are. Thanks. Link to the mystery parts: http://hometown.aol.com/enniodiaz/index.html p.s., the shell looking thing says "EA71 EA65." By the way, I replaced the resonator with a straight pipe, instead of welding the pipe to the resonator. The muffler shop guy convinced me the resonator was shot. So a $20 job turned into a $60 job. Either way, I'll pass the inspection now.
  20. never! I tried and tried and tried and failed every time. The PO had yanked out all the emissions stuff (it used to be a FL car, where apparently there is no pollution?!), which didn't help. So I quit trying. The Yugo is now with a happy owner in El Paso TX where, I believe, emissions testing is not required.
  21. After 3 days of driving to and from work (65 miles round trip) the wagon has improved performance like ten times. Now the engine is driving a lot smoother. I guess I burned all that old gas that's been sitting in the tank for who knows how long (and that was Colorado gas, lowww octane--and I've been using only the 93 octane here in TX). The Buick's death (temporary) is what made me put the Subaru into service and I don't regret it. (It was that or "borrow/share" the wife's Aviator, no thank you). Of course, the wagon has been a toll road queen for three days, no I-45 traffic for this baby! Oh, the inspection guy is a Nicaraguan paisano. And he knows me way too well from my multiple attempts to pass inspection and emissions (ever unsuccessfully) with my 1987 Yugo GV. Later!
  22. No. That's the best part. He said get it welded come back and pay me then.
  23. Almost passed the state inspection. The guy caught an exhaust leak. He said I need to weld a seam "between the engine and the pipe." I'm guessing it's a seam between the exhaust manifold and the pipe. Otherwise, the wagon's in perfect condition. The guy was very impressed and asked if I'd driven it all the way from Colorado (the wagon has CO plates, I'm in TX). I told him I towed it. I spared him my story about the lost wheel, etc., etc., blah, blah. Should pass tomorrow after the weld.
