  1. Ya, same thing happened with mine, it's on the blower behind your glovebox. If you can turn a wrench at all it won't be a problem. The glove box comes out and it's right there, 10mm bolts hold everything together if I remember right....
  2. Hi all, just trying to get an idea of what to offer a set of tires to a buddy for. With an 87 gl I bought came a set of snow tires, with studs on rims. Tires have 95-99% tread left, studs are a little more than a little worn. I don't know the exact brand or size or anything like that, just looking for a rough ball park. He wants them, I have them, how much do you think I should offer them for??
  3. I'm not very knowlegable at all, but just thought I'd throw this in...... I had a 73 3/4 ton GMC that I let sit on the side of my house for a few years, when I tried to drive it again it would "surge" when it was accelerating and under load. And not just surge, but sometimes bucking and dying. It would idle just fine and rev no problem with no load, but as soon as it started needing more power it would do it. I cleaned the carb and replaced the first fuel filter from the carb, but no luck. I sold the truck and my buddy that bought it from me told me he had to drop the tank and replace it (easier than cleaning it, he had an extra one), and replace the other fuel filter. The gas had "varnished" (I think was the term he used) and stuck everything up. Like I say, I'm not the most knowledgable person about cars, just thought I'd try......
  4. On that note, what weight oil would you guys recomend for a seattle area winter with mountain driving 2 or 3 times a week. I have noticed that on start up until the car is warm oil pressure is up around the top of the gauge (85psi I think), then when it warms up it drops to normal at the same rpm's..........
  5. Thanks for the reply's guys........... Skip, I'll go OE. I have a buddy who is somewhat "connected" ( ) to a Sub dealership where I might be able to get oe parts for a nice price. If you say OE, that's the way it be..... When filling, just to make sure I get what you are saying, I would ramp the car in front (yep, got ramps), start it, and fill as normal?? Filling as the level drops, squezzing hoses, etc etc. Thanks again, I can't beleive what a wealth of info this place is.
  6. And just a newbie question here, but why stick with Subaru oil filter?? All the oil changes in my old 87 GL I used a fram filter from schucks......and I'm about to change the oil in my 92 Loyale. Hi-jack of thread over.....
  7. Like the title says, 92 Loyale SW, here's the question: This car seems to take a long time to warm up, and when it does the temperature gauge never realy gets any higher than less than a 1/4 up on the gauge, unless I am driving on the freeway with no heat, then it will climb to about half way. My old Gl would always run at half on the gauge, not this one...... Now my heater doesn't seem to be that hot either, it's definately warm, but not like full blast heat should be, and adjusting the temp controll down just a little bit makes a drastic change in temp...ie a little less than full hot is starting to blow cool.... Also, some of the time during acceleration I can hear a gurgling noise coming from the heater core area. Are these problems related?? Heater core going south?? Is there a heater valve that might not be opening all the way?? Is the gurgling actualy air being sucked by a loose heater hose??? Thanks in advance for any advice......
  8. 91loyale, Roundeye, Subeman90, Mudduck, Roxtar: Thanks for the advice on clutch in and tires, my tires are definately all the same size, but inflation might be varying in a few. I've been meaning to put some air in them, I'll do that tonight. Skip, I guese I thought that driving in a straight line wouldn't bind the transfer case up. I'm wrong. I appologize. Heading to the mountains tommorow, I appreciate all the advice.
  9. Hi all. Newly registered, lurked for a few weeks. This is an incredible site for soob people, I can't beleive some of the info I've got just by reading other threads. Swapping my drums for the rear disc's off my dead 87' gl (non-turbo, so I guese it was converted at some point??) this weekend, had no idea it was a straight bolt on swap... Anyway, here's the first of a few questions I have..... When I first bought this car I tested the four wheel drive (92 Loyale, 5spd manual, push button activated), pushed button, drove straight and felt it engage, pushed the button to disengage could feel it did, turned around, everything was fine. I did this a few weeks after I bought it also, again, everything fine. Now the snow is starting to fall a little in the mountains and Stevens is open, it's time where I'll need 4-wheel drive. I tested it the other night, it engaged fine (light doesn't light anymore, but could be fuse? #12 I think I read??), then I went to disengage. I drove straight for a little bit, more than it took to disengage last time, and THUNK! I can't realy describe it, but it thunked hard when it dissengaged. I did it again, this time I made sure to keep constant on the gas pedal, and again, THUNK. Why is it disengaging so hard?? I think I remember reading in the manual (87 GL and this one) that you don't need to do anything special to dissengage or enagage...is this true?? Should I be on the gas?? CLutch in?? I'm getting a little scared........anybody have any ideas?? Thanks in advance.
  10. First post here, and I want to start it by saying I appreciate the free advice I have gained by lurking around when I have a quiestion. Just come here, browse the forums, and a lot of the times I find very helpfull advice on things that are going on with my car. Everybody is very courteous, always willing to help, and appreciative of others. Awesome. This is a great place for suby fans. I currently have a 92' Loyale that I drive and an 87 Gl that I killed. The 87 was my first sub and I am sold for life. 120+ trips up Stevens pass and I wouldn't want to drive anything else in the snow, unless of course it a WRX, but that's later. I have a few questions that I'm going to post in the older generation forums, but I wanted to say hi.....and I guese this is where I do it?? Living in the Seattle area I see probaly 10 subaru wagons of some sort on a daily basis, and I look forward to talking to people from this area, I know there have to be a ton of people on here. Anyway, enough rambling, hello and thanks for such a great site.
