ok i will look for that

ign module
it still doesn't but i haven't had much time to work on it ,i think it is in the wiring up under the dash because if i wiggle the wires around everything lights up. i started to work on the front end yesterday and broke the bolt holding on the ball joint so much fun. got it drilled out but the ball joint was rusted in,took a pipe wrench to get it out,now to buy new parts and start rebuilding.

where do i find info on a ej swap

fixed
still haven't got it running yet,but when i was working on it last i reached up under the dash and bumped the wires under there and everything worked ,so now i just need to reproduce that happy mistake to find the bad wire or wires. someone told me there was a ground wire attached under the dash that was the main ground for everything inside the front dash where is it. the wiring diagram is a little vague.

electrical wth
my 88 dl wagon came to me with electrical problems (no start,no dash ,no fan,and so on) i fixed everything i could think of everything worked intermittantly and i was pulling my hair out trying to track down the problem and was laying up under the dash and my wife called me in for supper and i reached up under the dash to pull myself up and bumped a bunch of wires and everything came back to life.now if i can recreate this happy accident again and get it running i can go on and fix the drivers side spindle and brakes and such i messed up towing about 6 miles without an axle. by the way i have a brand new axle that is the larger size and won't fit my car if anyone needs one the guy at the store sold me the wrong one twice and won't take it back so io will trade it for the right size one. the kid assumed it was turbo and it wasn't and i did not know how to measure the output of the tranny, two different sizes and splines. oh well live and learn and learn to swear in japanese.

new spindle
i tried to take my ball joint out of my 88 dl sw the other day as it was froze solid and the damn bolt broke on me, i finally got the bolt drilled out but had to use a pipe wrench to break the rusty ball joint loose, well i finally got it out but the socket where it was is totally fobar ,rusty and totally nasty, new spndles or hubs depending on what you call them cost about 180 to 200 bucks at the discout places what other years and models will interchange with this vehicle it is an 88dl wagon with push button 4wd and will be my winter car as soon as i get it running,(electrical problems) any help from the subaru geniouses would be greatly thankful

pcv tubing
went to remove my air cleaner on my 88 dl wagon the other day and it broke off right near the drivers side valve cover, thought i could shorten it but the whole hose was hard as a rock, what causes these hoses to harden like that? and where can you get replacement hoses? the dealer here in spokane won't deal with you unless you have a newer subaru.

neutral saftey switch
ah that makes sense,is that why i can start my car in gear? is there a switch on the clutch?
-
bad connection
i put everything elctrical back together and it still doesn't work,so i reached up and started grabbing wires up over the ecu and things started to come back to life. i read that there is a ground somewhere up there. the wagon is a 88 dl by the way. yes i forgot the k.i.s.s. principal (keep it simple stupid) i cleaned it up from my military days for those with a delicate constitution but if you own a subaru you can't be to delicate and have learned a few new swear words and made some up as you go.

ign switch pinout
thats all well and good but what do the wires go to?
-
neutral saftey switch
its a manual

neutral saftey switch
where is the neutral safty switch on a 88 dl wagon?
-
ign switch pinout
i have an 88 dl wagon and i think the ignition switch is intermittant . the fsm i have doesn't match what is in the car,it shows three wires and my car has five wires but it seems the ign switch runs most everything, but the only thing that works all the time is the starter, and lights. i don't want to start throwing parts at the problem. i've checked all the grounds i could find and i have power when it suits the car. maybe i need an exersist. the stuff works until i go to another system then the first part doesn't work again damn. i'm poor i can't afford test meters just a test light. i haven't even started on the front end yet.

new parts
i figured sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to buy new parts unless it is a 300 dollar relay but brakes and suspention should always be new for your piece of mind. if you don't get a piece then you mind and if you wreck your car because of a cheap used part then it gets expencive. my father tried to make hold down pins for his 98 subaru instead if buying a hard parts kit and we almost kissed a rock wall but we got stopped by down shifting to first gear we then had to redo the whole brake system again.

fixed
well the blower fan was working now it quit again, put new resistores in nothing, damn,i think the problem could be a bad ign switch because nothing works unless i wiggle the switch. does anyone have a pinout of the ign switch? i am getting tired of guessing all the manifold grounds are hooked up and the battery is charged it is just an intermittant problem which is driving me crazy but persistance is its own reward i have until winter to get it running.

stuff i got at pull and save today
i went to harbor freight and bought there test light kit,it has a12v test light and high voltage test light and a contiunuity tester for about 10 bucks if the components themselves have continuity then it is a bad connection or bad ground or a bad battrey if i get real brave i can use my fathers 200 dollar test equipment but that's overkill subarus are not that complicated.

83 dl wagon
i used to have an 83 dl wagon that i got cheap, the only thing i had to fix on it was both headgaskets and rebuild the hitachi carb then it kept losing water and i couldn't figure out where so i talked to the cute woman woking at the napa store and she told me to change the water line under the carb shore enough that was the problem. a sold the car to a friend who drove it for years until it was t boned in spokane,no one was hurt but the car was totaled to bad it was a nice winter car.
