EA 62 engine for sale
monkbonk replied to sofob0909's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I would be interested in the vw adapter and flywheel, possibly the engine. I'll pm you an offer. -
Thanks for the info. I am about to come into a VW rail project, so I'll be ordering one of these soon.

In search of first gen brat parts
monkbonk replied to Tits1221's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I believe I have the driver's side view mirror. It's in okay shape. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow when it isn't raining. If you have any extra brat parts, I may be willing to trade my extra Brat taillight? -
Fixing the shift rail o-ring leak (4mt, 4wd)

Do you have the # for the seal or is it something easily matched at the parts store? -
My weber fed ea71 just runs off the centrifugal adv. Seems to do just fine.

I have been wanting to adapt the original air cleaner to my Weber every since I got my Brat. And I don't even have the original air cleaner! Thanks for the tutorial. I'm all over it now.

Scored two NOS EA71 engines, stuffs
monkbonk replied to monkbonk's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Deal. I'll definitely do that I will try that. I will also spray the lifters. The engines looked to have been stored reasonably well I mighty be willing to sell it. It's pretty nifty. I'm not sure how much I would want for it yet though. -

Awesome. Give me until this weekend to pull those two parts out from my pile. I've started a new job that's absolutely killing me, physically. Assembly work is not as easy as I thought it'd be. Maybe I could trade them towards one of those cylinder heads. -
I've been trying to find some info on EA71 swapped VW's. Not a lot coming up, but there was a Brazilian abomination of sorts EA71 powered Bay Window. I am looking to source a transmission adapter for, say, an air cooled VW Beetle 4speed manual to start. I found an Aussie site, Volks Conversions, that listed one. Contacted them, awaiting reply. Does anyone know of any old build threads on here that I could peruse? Search won't let me look for EA71 stuff as the boolean string is too small.

I just bought a NOS longblock EA71 and an EA71 shortblock. Both have since sat up, and I was wondering what I should do to get them moving again. Teardown? I am betting that the lifters are the main culprit, as they look otherwise well kept (left in a crawlspace). I also have a good bit of Subaru parts like seals, electronic ignitions, two carbs/intakes, clutch cables, etc. Some are for newer Subarus, and I will likely sell/trade most of it off. Nothing of much monetary value though. Pictures are in this album: http://s211.photobucket.com/user/chicorunsfunny/library/chicorunsfunny015 I cataloged some of the stuff already. I have a ton of water pump gaskets (smaller, self contained one), headgaskets, keyed door locks, etc. I plan on building the short block to gain some experience before tackling the long block. I am just short one cylinder head. -

I traded a 1978 Volkswagen Bus for this Brat. Brats don't exist in my part of the country, hardly. I've had three VW buses thusfar, and they are a bit of a money pit. The only Volkswagen that I dare afford is my Beetle. I figure it's better to let someone else fuss with the Type 4 money-pit engines. Even though mine was running fine, I always had the cost of new cylinder heads in the back of my mind - should anything ever happen. That, plus our 1994 Mustang broke down on the way back from looking at it served as a bit of a bad omen (lost rear differential seal and pinion bearing on I-65). -

Thanks. I've been working on the Brat a little today. I installed a Hayden electric fan controller to operate the PO's electric fan. I hope to get two electric fans at a later date. Not sure how well this one will cool as it's mounted on the front of the radiator, more towards the center. Kinda small. I've got a repair manual coming in the mail, but it will likely be too broad in focus. I only paid $6 for it though. In the next week or so, I hope to have my front passenger cv boot replaced, rear brakes fixed, etc.
