My car stalled one time from the idle dipping low, so my mechanic "cleaned" the throttle body. Ever since, I have had a cel p1507 Idle control valve coming up. I replaced the Idle control valve and still have the low idle and CEL. I have tried 100 things except for messing with the TB. Any ideas? I really need help?

I have had a P1507 CEL for the past 3+ months. I my mechanic and myself have tried evertyhing to fix the problem, including replacing the Idle Control valve, which is what the CEL is for. Still idling very low (300rpm) irratically. I have no clue what to do next. The car only has 70k miles on it. The P1507 continually keeps coming back. The idle is low. My question is...The local dealer offers a computer analysis & diagnosis for $70. Will they give me more info that the generic code reader? Is it worth $70? Any advice on what the dealer can do would be of great help since I'm out of ideas. Thanks

I had a bastard of a problem with my idle. It would get very low, low enough that the car would shake and stalled 2 times. I cleaned the IACV and that didnt help. A few days later my idle went up to 1.5 or 2k rpms which was because the IACV is a piece of *&^%. I replaced the expensive piece of &*^% and now its fine. If this sounds anything like what yours is doing you may consider replacing the IACV and multiple dealers have told me they sell them frequently. Any check engine light (CEL)???

99 Legacy - Same problem, loud noise when turning at low speed, especially when the suspension is being used(turning into a driveway on a hill). The retard at midas drove it and had no clue what it was. I only went there b/c it was a free analysis. I have had this since 30k and am currently at 69k. I'll check back here in case anyone finds a solution.

I just had my mechanic use seafoam on my 99 legacy at 69k. It cured an annoying hesitation issue. I dont know how to use seafoam myself. I understand 1/3 in the gas but you put 1/3 in the pvc valve? and 1/3 in the oil? Sounds easy if this is true. I would like to know so I can do it to me other cars???

Hello, I replaced my climate control lights 2.5 years ago with radio shack bulbs, still working now! I re-used the green rubbers. I want blue light. some one else posted this link http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=2032058&kw=12%20volt%20bulb Does anyone know which blue bulbs will work where we are putting the regular clear radio shack bulbs in the heater, fog light switch etc. ????? Thanks

When my idle gets to 250 it does shake, shudder and occassionally stall. Now after cleaning the IACV it seems to be stuck open at 2000 rpm. After cleaning it was good for 100 miles then went to 2000. So I bought a new IACV and will iinstall it tonight. Hoping it fixes the low idle, high idle, and CEL!!!!

Yeah my mechanic cleaned my throttle body to fix hesitation and low idle. Hesitation is fixed but low idle was not. CEL came on while driving home from him cleaning TB. Since then it has come on 4 times. Code was p1507 idle control malfunction (fail safe). I fixed the low idle by finding the adjustment on the IACV. CEL still comes on goes off comes on goes off comes on pisses me off. I have tried 4867395 things to fix it. Including cleaning the EGR, mass air flow sensor, and IACV. I an now thinking it has to be related the cleaning of the throttle body. Anyone have any past problems or advice? Thanks

I got a low idle about a month ago, asked my mechanic, he said the throttle body is prob gunked up so he cleaned it. It didnt fix the idle but it did cause my check engine light (CEL) to come one. Since them I've tried everything to fix it. The code was for the idle air control valve so I tried cleaning that and it didnt help. But when putting it back on I noticed that you could adjust the electric part to increase the idle to about 750. Its been running fine but I got another CEL. Havnt got the code from it yet but I suspect its the same p1507 IACV malfunction that i got 3 other times this month. Frusteration. Let me know if you find a fix.

I see I wasnt exactly clear what the problem I am complaining of exactly is. Well its 2 things - the low idle, and CEL. I know the CEL is just a light but when its on I dont feel like im i n a reliable car that is properly maintained. The last time the CEL came on the car started shaking horribly and was almost undrivable - I wasnt sure if I was going to make it home when it did this. The mechanic did check for vaccum leaks - finding none I will be picking the car up today and will post an update Thanks for the feedback!

You have puschased a mighty sexy car. I have an older less sexy Legacy, in which I have just removed the bra. I used it for 2 years. It is a pain in the rump roast when washing the car because to be done right, it should be removed and cleaned when washing. The main problem is that it has destroyed the paint. I am now getting the front end painted and scrapping the bra. If your worried about chips, the custom hood deflector looks decent and protects the hood.

UPDATED 11/03/05 at 9:20AM EST After having the throttle body cleaned by my mechanic to correct a hesitation and low idle issue, my 99 legacy 2.2L almost immediately threw the CEL Check engine light. At this point the hesitation did go away but the low idle did not. For the next 600 miles, the CEL came on 3 times. There were no driving problems until the last CEL. It stalled and when I started it, it was shaking the crazy, it drove home at 40 mph but with a huge lack of power. So I took it back to the mechanics. The only code in there was P1507 Idle control system malfunction (fail safe). The car has 68k. When I say low idle, its only when its warm and at 500rpm or below. To correct the issue my mechanic: Cleaned EGR Cleaned mass air flow sensor Reset ECU Seafoam, half in engine, half in fuel New OEM PVC valve Checking the electrical contact on the idle control vale and applyed di-electric grease Other maintenance within the last year: Fram Air Hog air filter Fuel filter (not OEM, its prob a piece of ****) Trans filter/fluid change Bosch platinum plugs even though I hear NGK is preferred Running Mobile 1 for the past 50k or so Heres the problem: At this point I have picked the car up and drove it 10 miles. The engine and acceleration is much smoother but the idle is still low, in fact now it is more consistent with being low. Seems to be 500 and below. Sometimes its only 1 line above 0. This causes a very rough idle and nearly stalls out. What do I do? The idle control valve is $300, clean it maybe? Is there a way to adject the idle slightly higher to about 750 where is should be?

So its a new starter or rebuilt starter as you say its 1 year old? The easiest way to determine if the problem is in the starter or electrical system of the car is to try another starter. Anthough a starter from a junk yard with 200k on it might not be reliable for the long run, but it would be cheap to at least find the problem. I rebuilt my starter having no prior experience and its not diffiicult to get $10 worth of parts from an auto electric mechanic and install them into the starter yourself as opposed to paying $140 to have the mechanic do it. It may be under warranty if its 1 yr or less. If the problem is in the electrical system and NOT the starter I would consider suicide myself. Good luck

To take this apart...lift up the lid to the center console, take the 2 screws out. The plastic piece will now lift up and come out from where you take the screws out, down t below the ash tray. It comes out in 2 pieces, the second piece needs to be turned and is slightly more difficult to get out. Then these is another case to remove to expose underneith the shifter plastic. I am not sure where the lights are located but I have had mine apart this far and it is simple. After you see the lights, take them to radio shack or the dealer to find a close match.
