  1. 1998 legacy outback. Only one fan is working and the fuse keeps popping, then it gets hot. 305k on the car...might just be a worn out fan?
  2. I've had a head gasket done since then too but they probably didnt need to pull the crank pulley for that I wouldnt guess.
  3. Maybe it just needs tightened then? I've had a few subarus and never had this happen haha.
  4. It's been a couple years but the car doesnt get driven alot. Seems weird that it would come loose now but could be.
  5. Not sure what's going on. I put the belt on it just comes back off. Also i hear metal on metal squeal and it looks like my crankshaft pulley is a bit wobbly. Any ideas? It's a 98 legacy outback with 2.5.
  6. We've tried all that already. They've been balanced and the car is aligned. They are just out of round from the car sitting. These tires stay on steel rims so storage is easy. It's possible that they got warm, then the car was parked for the hg and the tires cooled off and sat for a month. Hasn't been much heat here in Gunnison lately but of it warms up they may smooth out some hopefully.
  7. I'll try a different brand next time. It probably flat spotted since we don't drive much and it sits for a week or more at a time. It's a 98 outback legacy and had a bad hg. When we drove it in to drop it off for hg work she noticed it shaking worse than usual and it had sat for a month or more before the hg work. That's all I can think of. The warranty is over so I guess I'll just run them through the summer and use them up. Hate to toss them out if I can keep it at certain speeds it's not too horrible haha.
  8. I forgot to add, all four tires are this way. He put the best ones on the front but it's almost undriveable at certain speeds with the shaking.
  9. My wife's car was riding rough so I took it to the shop to have the tires balanced. They said they are balanced but very flat spotted or possibly broken belts? The tread depth new is 13/32 but they said the cut off for claiming defects is at 11/32. Mine are at 9/32 at about 8-10k miles and they are almost new. I rotate at 3-5 k like recommended and they are on the car about 5 months a year. Firestone Winterforce 205/70R15, bought three winter's ago. Anyone had this problem? The tire shop gave me Firestone number and said good luck. They said if I can get a claim number then let them know and they'll try to do something if Firestone will stand behind them. I sure never expected this from new tires and there was no recall.
  10. I recently had a new steering rack installed in my wife's 98 legacy outback. I can hear broken pieces rolling around when I turn the wheel inside the column and the horn, cruise dont work and the airbag light is on. Could this have been broken by the mechanic or do they remove that when replacing the rack? I just want to educate myself, not blame anyone. Thanks!
  11. Just buy an older model and put some money in it. Then go on a vacation with the rest. No need to spend more than a couple grand on a subaru. They last forever. If you get an 05 or a 2010 you are just buying an expensive used car with problems.
  12. Oh I see. They are still 14 mm but they have a bigger lobe to give it more adjustment.
  13. I think I understand now. I must need two fast cam bolts for the rear if I add the half inch blocks. I'm not going to use the blocks after all so I'll only need the front two. From what I can tell at least. Ha-ha Thanks for info. What stock size and what would I need? Seems like 14 mm would be stock and 15 is outback size?
  14. Well I meant I think there is one camber bolt at each corner, so two camber bolts would only do two wheels? Am I missing something? Haha
  15. Yeah the camber bolts are what I'm trying to figure out. The guy at primitive said I'd need two camber bolts for 1.3 inches with raised springs and two more camber bolts with 1/2 spacers to achieve 1.75 inch lift. I'm not sure what to do with only two camber bolts. It just needs to be ready at alignment or will cost more $$. I thought both the bolts at the bottom of the strut were camber bolts but I can remember now.
  16. OK so they should have enough adjustment at the alignment after? I wasn't sure how much raising it that much would affect it. It's not a big lift.
  17. 1996 impreza L getting kyb struts (same impreza size) with king lift springs. It should raise the front 1.4 inch and the rear 1.5. Will I need different camber bolts or no? If so what do I need? Thanks!!!
  18. I had almost the exact same symptoms with my mass air flow sensor. It can't be tested but there are cheap ones online. I found two for around 30 a piece when mine went bad. Or try to clean it with some mass air flow sensor cleaner see if it works. It never worked for me. It should throw a code for it if it's bad but you know how that can be. I also had a bad knock sensor once that had similar symptoms but not so much lack of power. It kept throwing weird codes till I figured it out. Also subaru plug wires are very thin and can arc with the slightest damage. I replace all mine every year it seems before winter. Make sure you inspect them all thoroughly for any mouse chewings. One tiny tooth mark is all it takes to cause a misfire. This time of year is the most likely time it will happen with winter coming. Just a thought.
  19. Oh got it sorry. Thought you were a young fella. An impact would surely loosen it if it doesn't wreck the bolt first.
  20. For gawd sakes dont use air tools. Maybe have your dad help you if they are that tight. Warm it to temp and go get dad.
  21. You probably lost a wheel weight. Rotors wouldn't shake until you hit the brakes. An alignment won't make tires shake. Has to be a front wheel misbalanced or lost a weight.
