  1. its a big problem, the clutch can't engage because the fingers are pulled it to where they are straight, just like the pedal was pushed all the way down, but the tranny is not even on the engine
  2. I'm using an ea82 flywheel, and ea82 clutch disc, and an ea82 pressure plate, I even took the flywheel off the engine, so it can't be the ea81/ea82 deal :\
  3. ok, tranny is out AGAIN, found the problem but dont know whats causing it... tried a few pressure plates, when they are off the car they look normal, but when i bolt them down, the springs, the ones that the throwout bearing contacts, you know how they are usually angled away from the flywheel, well they straighten out and point dead center... WHY???????
  4. none of the parts have been machined and yes, its an ea81 engine with an ea82 trans. the clutch disc itself is fine, not very thin or anything. The pressure plate is from an 85 GL wagon, the flywheel I think is from an XT
  5. I cant figure out why my TO bearing is not even touching the pressure plate :[
  6. then I'm lost, I have NO idea what happened :[
  7. are all ea82 4wd flywheels and pressure plates the same? or do they vary in thickness? or depth? is it possible to put the wrong ones together to where they wouldn't mate up, or the other extreme to where they wouldnt clamp down on the clutch disc?
  8. ok, thanks to Tom, I got a clutch disc and pressure plate and TO bearing, got a new pilot bearing from my father, and got a flywheel from Miles. The tranny is back in, but now the clutch won't engage. There is a ridiculous amount of slop in the clutch fork , nearly the full travel of the lever. If you look in the opening for the clutch fork you can see that the TO bearing is in the right way, but its not touching the "fingers" on the pressure plate until its at the full extent of its travel.... WHAT did I do??? are all ea82 flywheels the same? or are some of them thicker or deeper?
  9. I'm not trying to make any extra work for anyone, but that sounds like a good idea to me
  10. I know I'm just learning all this stuff, but isnt using longer springs hell on CV joints?
  11. it'll be ok, with the new bearing, and tom's parts, it'll go back together, then it'll just leave the little bull************, like putting the hood back on, speedo cable, bleeding brakes, that kinda thing, baby stuff
  12. tom has the clutch parts we need, I've got a new pilot bearing (my dad had one) and Tom said he should be home by sunset but to let him know if we are coming up before that and he'll leave the clutch parts in the sedan
  13. well, the way the car ACTED was like the clutch cable was too loose... but what it turned out was we put in a flywheel with a bad pilot bearing that got stuck to the input shaft, and the clutch disc wasn't lined up right and when the engine and tranny were forced together, it got stuck too, had to be slide hammered off. Did everything seem to go together easily? did the engine and tranny go together without too much hassle? if it all went together smoothly, I would recommend checking the clutch cable
  14. got the bearing off the shaft, thank god for gear pullers, and it gets better... we had to use a slide hammer to get the clutch off of the input shaft! remember I said something about I didnt think it was lined up, well when we forced it together with those bolts, we forced the clutch onto the input shaft, bent the clutch too but had a tranny guy look at it and he said judging by the look of the hots spots on the pressure plate that the disc was already warped, no wonder it didnt want to line up, looks like the input shaft is ok though
  15. thanks for the offer on the 2wd 5 speed... doesnt seem like it would be worth doing though, as far as I know, this tranny is good, the mounts are already done, and I've already got the carrier bearing mounted for the rear drive shaft. the problem was the pilot bearing , its seized and it is stuck to the input shaft, it will be off later today, the tranny is already out. the clutch plate also looks warped or bent... its still on the tranny, got to get the bearing off first so i can pull the clutch and pressure plate back off and see
  16. thats what I want to do, but I have NO money for parts and won't be having any money for parts :[
  17. life won't allow, I'm perpetually a month behind on my bills, the only way this project was even thought possible is I traded my last car for this one plus some cash, once the cash was gone, that was it. guess I'm going to be selling some hatch parts
  18. not so much... got the tranny back out today because it wanted to move whether you were on the clutch or not, we installed a bad pilot bearing(I was just told that tonight) and its currently stuck on the end of the input shaft on the tranny. I dont have another bearing, I also saw once I pulled it back out that the clutch disc is VERY thin. This project is over officially now. I am on disability, and I'm already behind on my utility bills, in other words, I have NO money to put into this project, especially not enough for a clutch. It was fun while it lasted
  19. standard carpeting is not necessarily easy to use, but I wouldn't say it can't be used, it takes some patience but it can be done . Lowes is a great source for carpet, they have automotive grade carpet in huge rolls and you can buy it buy the foot
  20. mine is the Wombat. didnt know when I named it that that wombats like to hide in their burrows, no wonder its been sitting in the garage so long
  21. ok, the tranny is out, had to pull the pressure plate and clutch with the tranny, the pilot bearing is attatched to the end of the input shaft, going to get a gear puller on it tomorrow and pop it off. Its actually good this happened, I didnt realize how thin the clutch disc was, there are a few rivets that are literally about 2mm from the surface of the disc, that could have been ugly
