  1. anyone ever put round headlights on an 85 hatch?
  2. you've never owned anything other than subarus? that is awesome
  3. is this a chronological "vehcicles I've had" or a "subes i've had" ???? if its the first, nooones going to want to read my list, if its the later 84 2wd auto GL hatchback, traded an 89 bmw 325i (that I paid 750 bucks for), the guy gave me the sube plus 650 bucks
  4. according to a google search on sach SG123002 it seems to be for a triumph
  5. its got good tires, but we got 6-7 inches of snow last weekend and I never shoveled I didnt get stuck bad enough that I needed help getting out, but it took a lot of rocking and coaxing. In the subarus defense, the snow was deep enough that I wasnt just leaving tire tracks in the snow, I was leaving crossmember tracks in the snow, LOL
  6. dont forget the marvel mystery oil (fell in love with that stuff back in the rotary days) cleans, lubricates, you can add it to your crank case, you can put some in your fuel, great stuff
  7. I'm not finding much on the search, not putting the right combo of words in the search field probably . But my front springs are pretty well shot... you lean on the fender and the car drops a few inches, actually, it doesnt feel very much like springs up there, I think someone took them out and stuffed a few sponges in there instead seriously though, the springs on the ea82 feel good though, are they the same diameter, similar length? can I swap them? I know the struts are different and I cant swap those, but can I do the springs, or am I better off trying to trade the ea82 springs for ea81's?
  8. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one :] Some of my friends think I'm nuts. I loved my car when I was bringing it home, no exhaust except a really rusted out Y-pipe, really bad brakes, surface rust everywhere, no rockers or quarters, totally ragged out interior, but somehow I was and still am SO excited :] I havent noticed the handling to me anything impressive, but like i said I just got rid of the beemer, and before that was the heavily modified 1st generation rx7 that cornered like a go-cart, hehe, so at this point its hard to impress me with handling. And as far as bad weather, I got the car stuck in my driveway as soon as I got it home, LOL But like I said, i still absolutely love it :]
  9. I can't figure out what it is. I mean, before this car, I had a BMW325i, before that, a heavily modified RX7, before that, a mildly modified toyota supra. One might think I took a MAJOR step down by switching to an 85 subaru hatchback, but the truth is I absolutely LOVE this car, but can't for the life of me explain why
  10. does anyone know what size bolts are used on the ea81 flywheel? I need to know diameter , legth, and pitch thank you :]
  11. I must be a victim of the subaru disease when I buy an ea82 parts car and drive an ea81 vehicle, lol. But mines an auto 2wd and the parts cars a 5 speed D/R 4wd. A lot of parts will work for the swap, and the ones that won't will make great trading stock :]
  12. ok, I'm following in the footsteps of many members of this board. I got my hatch earlier in the week, and I got another one today :] its a ragged out 85 GL wagon with a bad engine, bad body ,but good tranny and rear end :] Lots of good interior stuff. I'm hooked, LOL
  13. how about an H pipe? since I already have this exhaust system, and it was cheap, how about a pipe connecting the two duals up underneath the engine? would that have the same effect as a Y pipe? If I have to actually go to a custom Y pipe for performance sake, then I'm going to run single exhaust off of that
  14. does anyone know where I could find a black and white line drawing of a subaru hatchback?
  15. well, I went with the true duals because Tom is an extremely generous man and made me a GREAT deal on it. My car had a severely rusted Y pipe on it and NOTHING else. My original plan was to run a single exhaust with a glass pack off the Y pipe until I got under there and saw how bad the Y pipe actually is. So on my budget, this was by far the best option
  16. so a true dual exhaust from an ea82 will bolt right on to an ea81 engine?
  17. I know it can be fixed, and I'm still in love with the car as crazy as it sounds, and if I knew the condition it was in, I STILL would have got it. It just pisses me off that they sold my friend a dangerous vehicle, I mean, he had his kids in that car. As far as fixing it, thanks to this board and some of its members, I'll have a dual exhaust system by noon tomorrow, and by the end of the weekend, I'll have a set of white spoked wheels and everything I need to swap from 2wd automatic to 4wd 5speed dual range except for rear axles and MAYBE a driveshaft :] I'm getting there
  18. anyone have a pic of the exhaust flanges? need to see the difference... thanks :]
  19. I just went to change the brake pads on my hatch. I bought it from a friend who bought it from a dealer about two months ago. He said the brakes were grining when he bought it, and that he was told it needed brake pads. Well, I went to change the pads, so far i've only pulled the right front, and theres only ONE pad!!!! the outter pad is gone, and I dont mean worn down to metal or anything like that, I mean there IS no outter pad, just the caliper scraping against the rotor. I also got a peek at whats left of the exhaust, its a Y pipe with holes in it and it has parts of it held together with soup cans and hose clamps. I know the guy that did the transmission swap on that car, and I PRAY its not the same guy that did the brake and exhaust work
  20. yeah I know its an ea82 and mines an ea81, I'm going to use the tranny shifter, pedal box, and differential from the wagon, then trade the wagon axles and suspension for ea81 stuff :]
  21. I brought home my first subaru yesterday, an 85 2wd GL hatch, auto trans. And I just bought a parts car on ebay, an 85 4wd wagon, it will be delivered on saturday :] so here I am, had my car less than a day and I'm already getting parts together for a 5sp 4wd swap
  22. egr, hmm, you mean like where it hooks to that big U shaped deal on the exhaust pipe maybe? theres no exhaust on the car right now lol
