  1. I live in Colorado, and I have never seen as many Subarus on the street as I do now. I can't count how many outbacks I see just driving to and from work everyday. Of course, maybe that's because I don't pay too much attention to any other cars besides Subies! LOL!
  2. Yep, I would say check the axel also. Before I bought my subie, my old sentra had the same problem. I would put it in drive, and only here clunking. Initially I thought is was a tranny problem, and since my car was an old piece of crap, I decided to sell it for $100 instead of fix the tranny. It turned out to be a broxen axel, but too late, I already sold it. Anyways, can't complain, love my subie but the wallet's hurting!
  3. I have an '03 outback H6-3.0. I average about 24mpg so far. I think that's with winter gas. I'm hoping to get better mileage in the summer. I'd say I drive about 40/60 as in city/hwy. As for the manual, it says premium is preferred, but 89 is acceptible. I've only put premium in my tank so far, but I've only had it for less than 2 months.
  4. Hi, I hate to ask, but I need a carfax report for this. vin: 3vwbk31c44m418798 Someone is selling this car, but something seems fishy. The seller claims he repaired this car, but the owner never came back to pick it up. That was 5 months ago. Thanks! kickson@yahoo.com
  5. I've got a quick question regarding rotating tires. Is it okay for a plugged tire to be rotated to the front? I had a flat over a month ago that either got plugged or patched, but I heard that at least for a FWD that it's best not to rotate it to the front. Does the same go for AWD?
  6. I'm not sure what a fair price is, but I took my outback in for the 15k maintenance yesterday and the dealer did the rotation and balancing for $30. I would think rotation alone should be inexpensive.
  7. Thanks Wae, I just wanted to double check there was nothing wrong with my car. I was curious as to why the first owner got rid of this car at such low mileage.
  8. Can someone please run this vin for me? 4s3be896937210107 Thanks in advance. kickson@yahoo.com Also, sorry for originally posting this in the older gen forum. It was a mistake since I have a new gen subie!
  9. Hi, I was hoping someone with unlimited carfax could please run a report for my subie. Any help would be greatly appreciated. vin# 4s3be896937210107 Thanks in advance. You can send the report to: kickson@yahoo.com
  10. At least that gives me more confidence since I'm bringing my car to Hueberger Subaru for it's first oil change next week. I bought the lifetime oil change plan from them since I'm too paranoid to mess things up myself and I don't trust those quickie lube places. Good luck with your dilemna!
  11. If I'm not mistaken, I think all or at least a majority of '03 outbacks have alloy rims. How you go about convincing the dealer if they're off center is another matter. And I don't know if this issue would cause air loss in your tires. Good luck, and I hope you can get this problem solved.
  12. Okay, so I called around and I found a place that will do the bumber for $185. I'm pretty happy about that price, so the total for both will end up to about $400, which is what I expected to begin with. I couldn't believe that one place said $500 for the bumper alone. Ouch!
  13. Okay, so I called the dealer a few days ago, and they told me where they do their clear bras, and they gave me a price of $199. I called up the tint shop and they did it for $189. I thought, "Great, $10 cheaper than what the dealer said. I can't beat that price when everyone else is saying $300". Stupid me did not think to ask what parts of the car were covered. It turns out only the hood was covered for the $189. So I called back to ask about the bumper. That is going to cost $385. What does everyone think. Should I get the bumper done? Everything adds up to about $600 after taxes. It would have a lifetime warranty. What do you think?
  14. Well I tried to do some research and this is what I came up with. 1968 was Subaru's first year in the USA The 1st US Subaru was a 360 white 1969 5 door van. So I guess it just depends what you consider their first year.
  15. There was a recall on the following for some outbacks! "September 2002 2003 Outback 6cylinders Alloy Wheels off center. Some 6cylinder Outbacks might have improperly manufactured, off -center alloy wheels. They will be replaced." Maybe this could be the issue?????
  16. My '03 outback tires hold air fine. Actually, I got a nail in one of them in the first few weeks. The tire was repaired, and has been okay since. I just checked the air yesterday and all tires are good.
  17. Hehe, I'm still waiting for a quote from the dealer. If they'll do it for $300, then I'm sold! By the way, you're car is da BOMB subie gal!!!
  18. Thanks MailManX! Yes, a friend of mine has a clear bra on his Mitsubishi Evo. I agree that you can't see it unless you're very close. I'm just trying to persuaid myself that the bra is worth the cost. I want one, but do I want to dish out the bucks?
  19. Hey Subie gal, that's great! How much did it cost you? Did you have the dealer do it for you?
  20. Hi everybody, I have been seriously considering putting a clear bra on my '03 outback to prevent rock chips, etc. Does anyone have any opinions on this? Does anyone know how much pricing should be, and if it's hard to do it yourself? Thanks!
  21. Thanks Cougar! I cancelled the plan yesterday and automatically he asked me if I wanted to keep it for $1600 instead of $3000. I still declined. I saw somebody selling the gold plus subaru plan for 7yrs/100k miles for about $900. Would I still qualify for this even though I canceled my original plan? On another note, I do like my car a lot, but am paranoid about everything since it's my first car that I bought myself. I'm still trying to figure out where to bring it in for it's 15,000 mile service. I'll call the dealer first to ask the price, but I'm sure it's marked up very high. Anyways, glad I found this board! You guys ROCK!
  22. Thanks for the replies. I did already sign up at my.subaru.com, but they emailed me back saying they couldn't verify I was the owner. So I faxed them proof of insurance, but unfortunately I am still stuck with a basic site which is why I can't see if I have any recalls. I have been too lazy to hassle for the preferred site when I feel I have already done all I should. As for the warranty, it covers mechanical repairs like struts, headgasket, transmission problems, etc. It also covers radio repairs. I thought it was a good idea to get at the time, but after reading how people got the same plan for under $1000, I think I spent too much for it. Besides, how many people put in $3000 of repair in their first 80k miles?
  23. Hi everybody! This is my first post here, and boy do I wish I found this site earlier. I just recently purchased a 2003 VDC Outback Sedan with 13.5k miles. I also purchased a couple warranty plans. I bought the Gold plus plan and the lifetime oil change plan. After reading a few posts here, I think I will definitely cancel my gold plus plan. I paid an outrageous amount for it (almost $3000). What does everyone else think. Is it worth it? Also, it seems I am approaching the 15k mark. Did anyone else bring their cars in to the dealership for the 15k mile service? Does anyone also know if their have been any recalls for my car? Thanks!
