Thinking about setting up a get-together here in Western, MD this spring- summer for subie owners. We have a few trails in the area that would be really fun for groups to hit. Awesome camp grounds too .... would probably call it the 1st Annual Potomac Valley Subaru meet. Probably a two to three day event. Camping would probably be setup in Savage River State Park where two of the 'froad trails are.

JDM EA71 should be here by the end of this week - auction ended 5 min ago. Anyone have any pointers before we start?

Have 2 EA71's - one comming and one that is already in the car. 1980 DL Hatch I'll have to to take all the accessories off the old motor and hook them up to the new one since it is just the long block. I know I'll have to swap out the bell housings on the motors because of the location of my starter, but what other things might I need to complete this swap without any troubles? Gaskets, ect. ?

If this engine does come through for me, about how long and how much would someone charge to put it in? We were going to do it with the help of some friends, but I just don't have the time to do it right now with work picking up. And my friends that were going to help are leaving for vacation around the time that we are planning on doing the project. If anyone is in the Western MD, North Central WV or South western PA areas and would be willing to help me out, I could possibly put a new computer in the mix ..... just built one and its sitting in a corner gathering dust DVD Burner and all ..... I know computers like the back of my hand , but older carbed cars are new to me.

That is true ..... I didn't relize how complicated it was ... they make intakes all the time for race bikes, but these are hell of a lot different.

Yeah , i was looking at that too ..... my girlfriends brothers and father are all master welders, so we might be able to fab something.

Well, my brother bid on this motor without my knowledge ..... so looks like 90 percent chance we are going to get it ... can we just use the head and other goodies off this motor and put them in the EA71 that is in the hatch now or are there going to be some differences?

Was looking at the repair manual and the pics of the ebay motor --- doesn't look like its gonna be a straight bolt-on .... damn ...

Yes, the sound is very noticeable comming out of the filler cap. I'll see if we can do a leakdown before i take it to the second mechanic.

I'm going to get a second opinion on it before I do anything really ... just checking into my options. It hasn't cost me anything yet. I've had friends look at it.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. Just found out that the subaru i bought has a dead piston. I have 4 options I'm looking at. 1. Rebuild 2. Find a rebuilt ea71 to put in it. 3. Replace the ea 71 with an ea 81 4. Sell the car. The body is in great shape . no rust. Everything else works great. Getting psi in the 90's with the three other pistons and 0 on the other one. Its an 80 DL 1600 Hatch 4wd .... what you you guys do?

Well, looks like the car has a dead piston. I just talked to the mechanic and havn't gotten the full skinny , but I may be selling the car. I don't want to get rid of it, but I don't have the time to mess with it right now. I'll post pictures and a price once I get the full diagnosis from him later today. So if someone is looking for a nice dl hatch for an engine conversion or rebuild .... it may be up for sale.

His stuff is pretty nice. I'd like to have soobfari rack and brush guard for my 80 dl 1600 hb 4wd. Anyone know what his charges for either/or were ?

We are going to do the compression test tomorrow ... so I'll let you guys know what they are. If it's not too bad, tags and insurance will go on it this week or next.
