I thought I should start a new thread as the old one was listed as a 2.2 when it was if fact a 2.5 This is the car that had all these codes. P0325 P0400 P0500 P1507 P9141 In addition to these I find it also has the At Light flashing 16 times as well. I still haven't had the time to check much out. I have a few questions: 1>What is the about 1" tube just above the IAC? It has a lot of Electrical tape wrapped around it. I will replace the hose soon. 2>Are there special Vacuum lines? I checked out some lines that looked new on the device above the EGR and they slide right off and on. I would figure they are the wrong type or size and are not holding vacuum. 3>Are the Subaru security systems any good? The wires are hanging down from it and the PO told me he cut the wires to the horn on the system because he couldn't get it to shut off. I found those wire connections at the rear of the engine and in the next couple of days will unhook them and clean them with some Deoxit. I will also unhook the IAC and clean it as well. It is hard to believe all these codes and the Tranny are all having problems. The PO only had this car for 4 months and I have no idea who owned it before that. I did get it running and drove it around a couple of blocks today. It drove fairly good and I went across a big icy spot and it didn't seem to slip on the ice. The Battery is toast I will have to get another one if I want to test much out. Thanks for any help.

Well I got the car tonight. Looks pretty good on the out side and the guy did drive it over here from 65 Miles away. The heat gauge was at a normal warmed up setting. The engine idles real smooth. Now to address some issues. 1ST. It has 219k not 100k Side note I would assume if it needed head caskets it already got them changed out. 2.nd the interior isn't great No big deal. 3rd. All the codes. I looked around some and am not sure where that cluster of wires you mentioned to check out. The Green connection under the dash is not hooked together. It has big rims on it so that could explain the Speed Sensor problem. The IAC and EGR might clean up. They looked original. He put a new drive axle on the back. 2 New Tires Alarm which he showed me how to use in case the battery goes dead. He said the sun roof sticks sometimes. (no big deal) Just so you know, I bought this just to use as a back up car in case I need it. OK I have a Car and a SUV but one more never hurts.

WOW thanks for the fast replies. I am making the trade tomorrow now I know all this. I haven't seen the car other than pictures and it looks really nice. It only has 100k miles and has new tires and other parts he had put on it lately. I looked up the blue book and I think if I spend the money on all the Sensors I will be far ahead on the deal. Thanks again.

A guy wants to trade me his 1997 Subaru Legacy GT with a 2.2 in it for my ATV I was selling. The Subaru has all these codes. P0325 P0400 P0500 P1507 P9141 I know the 325 is the Knock sensor the 400 is the EGR the 500 is the speed sensor and the 1507 could be a vacumm line or the IAC might need replaced or cleaned. I figured if I replaced the EGR,Speed Sensor and Knock sensor it will be around $400 with shipping. If I cleaned the IAC and EGR is it possible that is all that is needed? ANy help would be appreciated greatly.

No Cruise Control. I am taking out the cable and wiping it down and see what happens.
-
I took the advise of a friend and soaked the cable in a baggie with the cable lube in it. I then put the cable back in. The speedometer only works once in a while.

Thanks for the replies. I did just put some cable lube on the speedometer cable so I am guessing I put too much in and will have to check the back side of the cable under the dash.

1985 2Dr hatchback. Oil looking dampness coming from under the dash near the gages. What causes this? The gages are acting up in that they go to the extreme high marks and then back down to normal. Will they blow a fuse before causing damage to the wiring? Or will this cause a fire first? Help needed please.

My friends daughters car was overheating. The shop charged them $340 to drain and redo the coolant. The next day the same thing happened. Now they are telling them that it needs new head caskets. They want $2200 to redo the caskets. Is this a fair price on this car? Also is this job for experts only?

Stuck Disty? / Timing ?s - FIXED... FINALLY!

As far as the half throttle with more power thing. Could this be the fuel pump not working to specs? If you find out what fixes this I would be interested. I think mine does the same thing and someday I will test the fuel pump. I was told that if you disconnect the fuel line to the carb and or from the fuel line and then turn the key on, that if it is a good fuel pump it will squirt out over 4 feet. If it is bad it will only squirt out a couple of feet. -
I have a 1985 2dr Hatchback that is now my favoite car. Taking my wife to work the other night, I think the heater core is going out and so I had some kind of film on the inside of the windsheild. I carry a rag in the door panel so I started wiping the windsheild off and then replaced the rag. Just as I got the rag in the door panel I looked up to see a set of 4 legs and a body. Never saw the head of this deer as it was already too close to see it. About 10 feet in front of me. I was going 65 and hit the brakes hard. Turned to the right and then back to the left so I didn't hit the ditch. Well as I was going back to the left I saw headlights coming right at me. Instead of trying to recorrect again(no time) I headed for the opposite ditch. Just as I hit the gravel on the other side, I cranked the wheel to the left just before hitting the ditch. I ended up at a 80 degree turn from the starting point and facing the other dirrection. What a trip that was and the car came to a smooth stop. From the force of the gravel slide I popped the bead on the passengers front wheel. Other than that I just put it in reverse and backed out of the 7 foot drop off. The people I almost hit told me that they didn't see my headlights until I got around the deer and was headed toward them. They offered to help pull me out of the ditch, but I told them ,hey I got 4WD. My wife hugged me and told me what a great driver I was. Here is the weird part. When I went around that deer, I saw it jump forward to the left and the thing that stays in my head the most is the fact that the deer wagged it's tail as I missed it as if to say, hey,I'm ok. Yeah, my Subaru is now my favorite.

90 loyale will eliminate any ea81's and 87 brat will eliminate ea82's as far as confusions of listings Thanks miles, I will remember that in the future.
-
This was a one time deal, I wont be going back to that store(going out of business) and will always talk to the friendly guys at NAPA which is closer and they are more knowledgeable then the other store. At least they ask if it is ea81 or ea82, carb or turbo. Thanks for the input everyone!

To part or not to part that is the question!!!!

Was the distributor taken out while it was being rebuilt? Could be just one tooth off of being right. Give more details of what it does. There are good mechanics on this board that can help if given the systems. It's like the time I tried to install a new sink in the kitchen, I got the plumbing in ok, but it just didn't drain correct. After calling the plumber, he had it fixed in 10 minutes and said to me: "You almost had it, just a little more time and you would have had it working". Next time I will try harder to fix it myself. Take the time to check it out here on the board and you'll get it fixed. -
Sounds like I am not the only guy having problems with the parts stores. I will just have to state it's for an 84 or make sure they know it's an Ea81.
