  1. the check engine light does not come on. the middle wire at the igniter has power as well as the middle wire at the coil pack but the other wires do not have power. where do i check under the hood fuse box, besides the fusible link?
  2. damnsubaru and subpoop are the same person me. it might simplify things if everything gets transfered to damnsubaru.
  3. no power to the ecm. checked fuses it passed. it is hard for me to fit my big mitts up above the fuse box. smooth move subaru.
  4. i am working on my 1990 legacy and i think the ign relay is bad, no power to the ecm fuse is good. is the ign relay up above the fuse box and who was the idiot who put it up there?
  5. unfortunately it doesn't have power to the ecm the fuse is good but no power to the ecm.
  6. the timing belt is fine. found out there is no power to the ecm. it is supposed to go to the yellow wire with the red trace and it is supposed to be 12v constant. there is power to the fuse and through the fuse but then it disappears i am trying to get the fuse box out because it splits off into two wires so somewhere in that mess a wire is bad or the junction where it splits is bad. if i apply 12v to the ecm can i test it that way? when i test it out on the engine the light is supposed to light up and flash in time with the crank but it doesn't light up.
  7. i looked in the fsm and it doesn't tell me where the ign relay is just that it is a brown connector. but i think it is ok because the igniter and coil both get power, what else does this do.
  8. the fuel pump works. how well i am not sure. i took the fuel line off and squirted it into a bucket. it last ran two yrs ago, they drove it then parked it and it wouldn't start, so they did some checking and no spark, they took the coil pack off of a running vehicle and stuck it on and still no spark and lost interest. i changed the ecm because it smelled burned, and the crank sensor because the old one had a dent in the bottom and while i was at it i changed the cam sensor and the igniter box. there is 12v to the coil and igniter and the only thing i haven't changed is the ign relay but there is power to the components. just curious about the dent on the bottom of the crank sensor. how do i check the fuel pressure and what is it suppose to be.
  9. what brand of c/v tail/prop shaft should i get? all the old places go out of business or sell out to the chinese. my car is a 87 dl wagon.
  10. someone from her church fixed the exhaust leak and a/c and she drives it more than the mini van. the mini van keeps breaking down and she won't let me work on it because i won't join her church and i am not certified. but i am certifiable. just not a mormon.
  11. it is a bad ground wire up under the dash. i found out from the lady i bought it from her 14 yr old son got mad when mom sold the car and grabbed the wires under the dash. then threw paint on the car. if i had tried that when i was a kid i wouldn't be sitting down yet. all she did was give him a time out and sent him to his room.
  12. does the 10 spd count if you strap it to the roof?
  13. got everything replaced except the rotor and caliper. bought a new ball joint and ruined the dust boot trying to put it on. that and some drive axles and i can put it one the ground.
  14. i found a book called how to keep you subaru alive and i bought the book how to keep your volkswagon alive and used it to fix my friends bus butr when he sold it he gave them the book as well.
  15. haven't got to it yet as life caught up with me. i will be working on it soon. got new brake pads, hoses new front bearings and seals now for new rotors and calipers. the old ones got red hot. remember on a 87 don't tow the car without the front drivelines.
  16. how do i check the fuel pressure on a 90 legacy wagon and what is it suppose to be?
  17. i have power to the coil and the igniter and as soon as i find my test light i will see if the test light pulses at the two outside wires at the coil. i changed the crank sensor because the bottom was dented and changed the cam sensor and the igniter as well i found out someone put a used coil in and i measured them as well the primary on no's 3 and 7 measured .9 ohms and the no's 1 and two measured .7 ohms the secondary was fine on both according to Haynes. so i think it is the coil. those wires are a pain to fish through to the connectors in the back. still no spark tho. how do i test the two sensors just look for the flash at the test light?
  18. where is the ign relay on a 1990 legacy wagon. i have checked everything else. i saw somewhere on how to check the ign components with a test light, it is suppose to blink if put to the right terminal during cranking. tried that at the coil in the center terminal and it lite up during cranking but didn't blink. so i am thinking crank sensor or cam sensor or igniter but i also don't want to throw parts at it.
  19. i looked and still cannot find out where the red wire goes to i twisted it back together and it cranks but no spark.. found mention of an ign relay but where is it ? the haynes book shows the ecm on the passenger side but it is definitely on the drivers side trying to see if the crank sensor has power as well as the igniter but my brain is farting right now and i cannot figure out where the power comes in to theses sensors. i know they come from the ecm but which wire is which? also found out the car is a 90.
  20. went and looked at it myself instead of relying on others and found out it didn't go to the ecm but it was in a bundle of wires right next to it. tthe red wire was single on one end and the other side going up split into two wires all of them red. i need a diagram telling me where the various connectors are. this one is white and it hangs around the ecm area on the drivers side. payday i am going to look at one in the wrecking yard because the ecm was disconnected and laying under the seat., and i was told don't try to start it without the case being grounded. i could bypass the burned wire but i want to find out what caused it first. i took pictures but cannot find my usb cord for my camera and i have a hard time transferring it to these e mails.
  21. it is an 87 dl wagon with spfi i think it is an ea82. sorry it has been a while got married wife had a stroke, i had a heart attack you know life. but i got the bearings in the front hub and the new seals and the new brake lines, going to get the new rotors soon as well as the drive lines used and reboot them.
