  1. Just as I had thought haha! Yea I am not looking for a performance increase although that is definitely a plus! Getting rid of my catalytic converters and have the motor running with no headers right now bahahaha, no starting it up at night or in the morning... Okay sweet! Thanks for the connect dude.
  2. 1984 Subaru GL FWD EA81 I removed my catalytic converter and am in the process of trying to find headers with a catalytic converter that fit the EA81. Seems everyone is doing their own custom fabrication.
  3. Not a big deal, I will send them in to be remanufactured after my replacements come in! Thanks for the help everyone
  4. Ah yes you are correct! It is okay if I damaged them, actually ordered new calipers just wanted to get it driving. Going to get that tool just to have it on hand since it will arrive before my calipers.
  5. 1984 GL FWD I am having the hardest time getting new pads installed on the old calipers... Initially when I first tried to compress the piston on the right side it went in but would pop right back out after releasing pressure. The left side now upon trying it the piston won't even move (this is after draining a good amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder) A couple questions: 1. Why can't I compress the pistons and what could I do to fix it or make it easier? 2. If I want to change the whole front brake calipers, what is the process for removing that?
  6. The pair was $364 after shipping. Honestly a great price for the quality and knowing their good reputation! Also it isn't the axle seal, it's the seal on the diff side that seats with the axle.
  7. It's actually an OEM rebuilt axle from a place in Colorado called CVJ axles! High quality.
  8. Okay that makes me feel better, I will go ahead and continue putting the left axle in then! The right side has one and it definitely looks like it protects the differential from dirt and debris getting into the seal but whatever!
  9. So I am replacing my cv axles with remanufactured ones and I notice that the right axle had the metal dust shield and the left side did not. I went ahead and installed the previous shield onto the new right axle, but my left axle is without one.... I cannot find pictures or source to the exact one that I need with two lips. Here is a similar photo:
  10. This is the EA81 motor with the stock Hitachi carb. Is the only air filter within the air cleaner above the carb? I will be replacing the fuel filter and the filter/fuel vapor separator asap, and spark plugs/wires. I also just removed the catalytic converter the other day since I have my car up on jack stands (doing front end suspension/steering replacements), I am sure that it was clogged and not doing any good. The attached muffler had holes in it also. Need to get a new exhaust soon.
  11. I am going to be following this thread.... it's about to start getting real cold hear. My weber carb isn't equipped yet, just running the stock Hitachi for the next month or so until I can afford it
  12. I think there may be something wrong with my transmission, it is an automatic. I will have the gas pedal pretty much all the way down to the floor and the car doesn't seem to go past a certain RPM, and then if I actually touch the gas pedal to the floor it slams into the next gear and revs to 4k+ rpm very violently... Very odd. The car drives great in town but does not like the highway... I'm not sure what it could be at this point other than the transmission. I am replacing both fuel filters asap and doing a tranny fluid change, who knows when it was done last. Just got this car from an old lady recently.
