I have no idea if the manual covers your engine. But, I do believe you can read the number cast into the block identifying it as an ea71, not an ea81 or ea82.

Uh. OK. When did asking questions and seeking knowledge become a sign of fear? I was confused by the suggestion that state laws can be less stringent than federal laws. I learned states can be more stringent than feds, but not less. Thanks for the input. Though I disagree with your implicit premise that since some people don’t try to minimize environmental impact, why bother doing anything.

I need to replace the y-pipe/catalytic converter for my 82 GL Brat. Actually, I need the whole exhaust replaced, but I digress. Rockauto has 2 listed: 1 made by DEC 1made by Davico Does either have a better reputation for correct fitting and durability? Thanks ds

Are the doors on gen 2 wagons the same as doors on the brat? Found an 83 GL with good sheet metal (no rust) and was curious if I could use to replace a rusty Brat door. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi all, I retired early and bought an 82 Brat GL as a winter restoration project to keep busy. Some rust will have to be cut and patched, but it'll be a good reason to practice welding. I had a Gen 1 Brat in College. that Aaron's in Seattle had put an 1.8L and 5 speed dual range in. I also had a couple 80's Subaru wagons. While going through this motor to find out what was what - I found one of the cylinder heads had been heli-coiled. During removal of the spark plug things went badly. I tried a Big-Sert oversized to repair, but the damage is too bad. So, I pulled the motor and am now looking for solutions. Ultimately, I suspect finding another head, or putting a rebuild in will be easiest. If anyone near Billings, MT has either: a right side EA81 cylinder head in decent shape; or an entire EA81engine in good/great shape, please PM me. I'm also interested in any leads on body interior parts reasonably close to Billings.... Not much of an ask, right... Anyway, happy New Year's to everybody - ds
