  1. a bit of a side here...let's say this happened to me or someone who doesn't know WHERE the FWD fuse is....where might they find it!!? it'd hate to be i this situation or anything like it and not know where that fuse is located? thx
  2. Well in about a month i will be going from the Southwest and nice weather to New England and the tail end of Winter. Have any of you road tripped your outbacks this far? I think it's like 40hrs or something and plan on driving it as straight through as possible, with very short stops here or there for an hour or two of shuteye. I'll have it pretty packed to the gills as well. I'm going to make a big effort to keep the weight as low as possible but i feel it'll still get packed up. Anyone have any insight on a voyage such as this. Things to keep in mind, look out for etc. It's a 2000 OB, 68k, runs exceptionally well. thx
  3. well from what i gathered from that other read, the pure one filter would be an acceptable alternative as it has a lower pressure, which will ultimately be safe for the engine in the long run, compared to something that has a higher bypass pressure than the normal oem unit. at anyrate, my F11 filter is not leaking...yet. keeping fingers crossed.
  4. that thread list as well as the one at nasioc was hugely helpful. I apparently got a filter that has a production number that is "out of range" of the troubled filters....which is good, b/c my luck usually puts me into what ever issues are at hand with this type of shat. For all you that change you're own oil, this is an intersting read. See the above link as well as the ones posted over there.
  5. long read, interesting info. Let's hope i'm in the clear, i just changed it this afternoon. I just crawled back under to look at the production number, mines a F11 so hopefully i'm in the clear. It's odd that the new filter doesn't have a pressure release valve/thingy inside on the bottom. for me the term if it's not broke don't fix it rings in here.
  6. I Just changed my oil and the filter was smaller than the ones i used to get. the front half of the p/n was the same but the back half had a 9 where the 6 used to be? Can anyone comment? If fit fine. 2.5 litre 4
  7. What oil do you all run? Not brands but viscosity and why? I'm in AZ right now and tend to run 10w-30 given who hot it is and how cold it never gets? I'll change it prior to the long drive, should i do the cross country on 1030 and then go to 530 or just put 530 in for the cc part. 2800 miles at approximately 80mph? any thoughts thx
  8. I drive about 250 miles a week, 200 or so on the highway at speeds of 75-85mph for at least 30 to 45minutes, twice a day. Essentially to and from work. Most recently i had to add coolant to my reservoir as it was down to the bottom of the tank(could barely see it) and only one time before that i had to add a bit as i like to see it at the top of the line. No smells, no issues, temp gauge is pegged just a hare about the quarter hot mark. Is this an indication of a hg problem or am i just paranoid? I had the additive put in and the oils changed every 4-5k. 2000 outback. Will be getting into a very long road trip and want to make sure i don't have any issues. 2800mile road trip that is. thx
  9. bump...thanks for the reply, thought i'd have more...apparantly i'll be one of the few subaru owners in new england area that frequent this board.
  10. I'll be moving to S. NH, bout 30 minutes from boston. Should i have a need to go to a dealer for this or that...which ones would you recommend and which ones would you suggest staying away from? thanks all
  11. here's mine I have no idea how to post pics bigger, keeps telling me they are too large, best i could do.
  12. thanks all. normally when i see two things that belong together, i find it odd that they are not. Forums rock.
  13. behind the dash board, right above the gas pedal, up in the dash board for a green connector that is currently "not connected" So if your sitting in the drivers seat, and you were to reach with your right hand up and under, the fitting will be right there. I need to get on my knees and sort of bend to look up to see it. Again it's green. PLEASE Check for me and tell me if your's is unconnected. here's the story, in short. I got a new o2 sensor and then noticed this connection un done. i connected it and it threw 8 codes....disconnected...functions fine. Called the dealer and explained to them. they said it was a "pdi connection" and it's supposed to be disconnected; That it ships from the factory connected, so the check engine comes on, so they know they need to do the initial main't. My dealers been nothing but super cool and helpful, but i'm of a paranoid mindset and want to make sure this is all on the up and up. Can y'all take a peek for me. Just want to make sure that the dealers answer is legit. thx b
  14. go to autozone or checker, they'll pull it for free, most likely it's the front 02 sensor, which had a recall on it. the problem with the new ones (assuming the recall was done) is that the replacement o2 sensor was of the same crappy vintage and the recalled one. They've sinse rectified that with a New new one, this one should last almost forever. i think the code is 0133 or I033 or something like that, if so, it's the front o2 sensor, the dealer will put one in for you. it's covered, so visit the auto part store first, it helps to go to the dealer "educated" you will not harm the car driving it in this state. Resetting it will not fix the issue, it will simply come back. The error description will probably say "weak o2 sensor signal" or something to that effect. don't sweat it, just don't wait 6mos. to fix it. hope this helps
  15. How do you guys get such big pics to post...i always get an error stating too big and then when i do get it to load, it's dinky compared to everyone else's....Help.. and yep, i did run a search.... thx for the insights.
  16. perhaps now:.......i just can't seem to get these sized right? see that link....they are over there at the end.
  17. Here's my .02cents, growing up skiing and currently skiing all the time. I have several pairs of skis, some of which I'll leave locked on my rack due to laziness. Don't worry about "dirt and grime and road salt" and whatnot...it's not going to bother them for your here and there jaunts. It's never bothered mine and I use hi quality gear, not a concern, in my opinion. Secondly, i'd go with Yak over Thule due to yak have round bars, thule is rectangle which i've seen bend. In your application you won't bend them. So i'd say whatever you can find cheaper is better. Yak and thule lock very well, it'd be very hard for someone to steal them. Yak and thule are super sexy rack, hence the loot you need to spend for them. I've had several yakrac's and have had not one gripe about them. I have a rear tire rack for my jeep that was bearcrafter and it sucked. Perhaps BC has come along in quality since then...no offense to anyone...just my .02 remember. My rack is currently set up for two bikes and has a gear basket in the middle as i'm still in AZ for two more months...I've had probably about 80lbs or so on the roof with ZERO issues. I have the low rider towers that attach to the factory rack. Very heavy duty set up. no worries when motoring at 80 on a trip. complete piece of mind. if you have more questions, post them. Here are two pics of my beater with the rac...hope this helps. I snapped these for another forum the other day. ASking similar questions...other forums address http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1894&pagenumber=2
  18. no drop with the additive, however i still do hand stands every time i fill the outback...as prior to that i was filling a dodge ram, 100bucks a fill give or take. So needless to say i don't follow my mileage as closely as i could, i just know it costs less than half on the ob. i would think your loss is related to something other than the propaganda additive. The idea of suspect gas due to the hurricanes etc is an interesting idea.
  19. I know other countries are really big into diesel. Why is the US NOT?! Has anyone heard of subaru coming out with a diesel for the US? How reliable are the subaru diesels, if they exist?? Do they make them or does someone else make them and brand them as a subaru?? Anyone want to speculate? I searched but found nothing on this...oddly enough. thx just figured I'd get a discussion going...i buy one in a second if it were available here.
  20. 87 all the time, and there are some big hills out here in Co and Az. No issues and no pinging, but again i drive this thing like i stole it and usually with the radio up to drown out other sounds that are most likely nothing. I'm paranoid as i own a jeep too. So the radio is my fix. runs like a top aside from slight seepage from the oil filter, which is not noticable in level and doesn't drip.
