  1. This is what I'm going to use. It's a good size, price is right, and it's a bolt on. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=42611&item=2435564142
  2. Well, the phantom grip is a LSD conversion kit. It replaces the internals and turns your stock diff into an LSD. I have it on my Colt and it works awsome. It's great for offroad since it's more like a clutch type LSD in that is doesn't give a whole lot. Mantaray sells them for $279.95, and the 905 appears to fit our cars. Subaru HITACHI R160 (Open Rear Diff) (green spring upgrade not available) 905-GOLD $279.95 http://www.mmrusa.com/phantom1.htm I believe the front and rear diffs are similar enough internally that the kit should work.
  3. Just what I was hoping for. Thanks for the info.
  4. I hate asking noob questions, but again I didn't see anything in my searches. Is there a write-up somewhere on installing a turbo timer on EA82T cars? Is there a harness adapter available by any chance?
  5. If it's the CV's you'll only hear it as your turning. But that's what it sounds like.
  6. Not on a Suby, but another car. The hood didn't look like it appreciated it too much.
  7. 2.5" is perfect for our car. It's what I'm going with. Here's the general rule of thumb for displacement and exhaust pipe sizes for turbo motors. 1.0-1.4L - 2.0" 1.5-1.9L - 2.5" 2.0-3.0L - 3.0" For full race systems go .5" bigger.
  8. The cracked rubber part you see sounds like the upper strut mount, and should be replaced. It's just what the strut mounts to. To check if your struts need to be replaced, do the bounce test. Simply push down on your car and if it bounces up and down more than once, they're shot. Also check for residue build-up on the shock bodies themselves. It's signs of a leak and that they need to be replaced.
  9. I did some searching and couldn't find anything. Will any of the SS brake line kits for the newer Suby's fit the older cars, like my GL?
  10. The best thing I heard was to just drill about a 1-1.5" hole through it. It's just as effective, easier than gutting the whole thing, and won't disturb the airflow as much as an empty cat. Plus if it gets inspected and a cop decided to knock on it, it won't sound hollow.
  11. I'm not sure on the price yet. The site said to call. I imagine it will have only rubber bushings. There are probably some polys you can find to work. I think I'm going to get one of these and check it out. I'm just wondering if I should get the front also.
  12. I was looking for parts and noticed ADDCO makes 7/8" front and rear sway bars for the '85-89 Dl and GL's. This comes out to roughly a 22mm bar and an obvious increase over using the XT's 20mm bar. Does anyone have these, and if so how do you like them?
  13. I'm pretty positive that is a rendition of a real JDM Alycone (XT-6). I do believe the picture originates from the box of a plastic model kit.
  14. Well, here appears to be another car we never got. I just saw the pic and it looks cool. It appears to be a JDM STi XT-6, but I guess it's known as the Alycone in Japan.
  15. So far no luck. Compomotive hasn't gotten back to me on their other contacts. I'm going to look into doing the XT6 hub conversion.
  16. I'm not too worried about hurting the motor. Just getting crappy gas milage. And at $2.30 for a gallon of camel piss 91 octane, I'd pefer to conserve as much as possible.
  17. I'm wondering what the stock wheel bolt pattern and offset is for my '88 GL 4WD. I hear 4x120, and 4x140. Which is it? And what about the stock offset? I'm trying to work with Compomotive on getting a custom bolt pattern drilled.
  18. I'm wanting to replace the steering wheel with something from MOMO. The only adapter I see listed is for the Legacy. Is there any reason it won't work? Does anyone have an aftermarket steering wheel on their car?
  19. The worst that can happen is they will explode under hard braking. Maybe even causing an accident. Cross drilling OEM discs lessens the available suface area, effectively lengthening your stopping distances. Most full blow race cars like those in the JGTC even have only slotted rotors now. Your best bet is to get some Brembo OE replacements. Brembo uses superior alloy to begin with. If warpage is your main motivation, take $100 bucks and have them cryo treated. This does wonders for fade resistance and warping. Check out Cryo Science for more info.
  20. At 70 my revs are around 3500. Too high since I prefer to go 75. Especially since I plan on taking this thing on snowboarding trips.
  21. After some freeway driving, I've noticed that the 55 MPH speedlimit gear ratio of 5th is too short for Cali's current 65 MPH limit. Even worse is the 75 MPH flow of traffic. Is there a taller 5th gear from another car I could use?
