  1. i dunno, you guys ever been to Denver? my friend who lives there and has owned three subs claims CO is home to the largets independent sub service shop. not sure how valid that claim is, but i'd believe it. i was out there for a meeting and i swear you could stand in the parking lot and count 5+ subs in any direction you looked.
  2. i'm in the same boat as you dave, i still see pretty bad milage with my 94 5sp loyale, but i've yet to have a good highway only run on a tank. i almost did, but that was with full AC and the 15 miles i didn't spend on the highway were spend sitting in a line that took 2.5 hours to get in to, and 2 hours to get out of. what is your timing set at? when i got it it was at 29btc and it was moved to 20 when it was smogged, but then it had a horrible flat spot at 2500rpm. so i wasn't sure if the tank i used at that setting would be any indication for mileage -- and that tank had no AC since it wasn't working yet. i reset the timing and it runs better, but still kinda flat at low rpms and i'm only getting like 280 miles out of 12 gallons. i looked at the airfilter today and it looks pretty good and it doesn't sound like the plugs/wires upgrade you did helped much. anyone got any suggestions to try?
  3. hey all, anyone know i company that makes a hitch for the loyale, i mostly want it for a bike rack or small 3 rail moto trailer. cheers andrew
  4. that aluminum chunk is great. i need to get me some of that milling machine access. but i think i like the look of the whole thing coming out and i like the suggestion of putting it on the bottom, i had thought of that when i was trying to jam it in there, but i didn't get that far when i realized it would still stick out. thanks for all the tips, now i just have to figure out a cool way to mount my ipod. cheers droo
  5. ok so i busted rump roast all day to install a system into our loyale. i mounted new front speakers, i ran wires for amps under the seats, i cleaned off my power window switches so they will work, i even built a sub box/rear speaker box to stash in the wedge behind the back seat between the seat and the dog barrier. i work ALL day from 9am to 2am and when i go to mount up the head unit i am sickened to learn that it is too long and will not fit in with the oem mounting brackets or face/trim. there is some black box behind it, looks like part of the vent system or something. anyway, i searched around and saw some threads on two different aftermarket DIN trim pieces, but i wonder do they add some thickness to the front for longer than OEM stereos? anyone else had this issue? which trim did you get to fix it? thanks droo
  6. not sure if it's MPFI or SPFI, i'll have to look. there did seem to be a flat spot before, but it just seems much more pronounced now. i'll look at just tuning up with filter changes, etc. taking it in next week to get the A/C looked at/recharged i may just get my mechanics to look at it if a tune up doesn't help. thanks for the advice. if anyone has any other suggestions or know of common ailments let me know. cheers droo
  7. hey all, me again. so i got the loyale smog'ed yesterday and the jerk at the chevron said it failed because the timing was off and was set to 29°BTC. his english sucked so i gathered that he said it was off spec and that that setting could make it prone to pinging. so he set to 20° and it passed BUT now it seems even more gutless than before and has a nasty flat spot around 2500rpm which is annoying because i live in the mountians and climb hills all day. the mystery is afterwards he said he pulled some plug (a green one near the driver's firewall) to "bypass the computer" after three attempts to understand the purpose of this i gave up. the communication just wasn't happening. so can anyone guess as to what his purpose of bypassing the computer? should i recheck the timing and adjust to something else? anyone have any recommended setting and could you pretty-please provide me with some instructions on setting the timing on this car? i've set timing before, but mostly just static timing on old vw's i get the concept, but i'm just not good at it. i have a timing light and the will. also is there anything else i should look for that is causing this flat spot at 2500rpm? thanks droo
  8. cool, thanks for the tips, i will try cleaning it out and see what happens. btw, love the trashwagon(s) cheers droo
  9. thanks guys that makes sense. does anyone happen to know if the motor is used in any other models? or should i just pull it out and go to the junkyard and look an any japanese car? thanks droo
  10. hey all, just picked up a loyale and wanted to get some of it's quirks fixed. currently the driver side power window controls can roll down the rears, but can't roll them up. however the rear switches can roll up the rear windows. the drivers window works fine, but nothing can roll down the passenger window. i'm fairly decent with electrical systems having customized motorcycles and fixed aging vws, but neither of those had power windows, so i'm a bit lost as to where to start. is there a central relay for the windows that could be faulty? or is it probably a fault at the switches? anyone got an working components they think will help this issues? or any test to try to help figure out wtf is going on? tia droo
