  1. Congrats on your new ride! The previous 2 replies covered lot bu here is the article you were looking for: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32721 pat
  2. I ran out as much as I could this morning, sputtering and chugging to the gas station, wasen't perty! Even after i filled up it took some hard cranking to get it started again, I took that as a sign that the tank was empty. On another note, what makes the gas pump automatically stop, is it something in the neck of the gas tank, or in the pump handle? Maybe it's never been full because of a faulty 'full' signal when the pump stops. I don't keep trying to get that even .50 or .00, I say when it clicks off it's full!
  3. Ok I have a strange gas tank compacity issue. The manual and the board says the compacity on my 92 loyale is 16 gallons. But I can't seem to get more than 14 gallons in, even when I sputter and chug to the gas station, as i did this morning. The orange 'low fuel' light comes on and I can fill up a little over 12 gallons, so that figures right. My mpg is good at 28, and I get a little over 400 miles to a tank. When the tank is 'full' the gauge needle barely reaches the top mark. So I'm wondering what's taking up the space of that extra 2 gallons? It's not a major issue, or a problem, just something I wonder about at the pump. pat
  4. I got mine from a salvage yard, so that would be my suggestion. If you can't find a source online pm me and I'll keep it in mind next time I go.
  5. Amazon lists them starting at $70 or so, expensive, but looks like it beats e-bay. Is this for EA81's only, or what in general is covered?
  6. Had a quick trip to Pull n Save yesterday and thought I'd share these: 82 Brat, still has complete engine, interrior, no roll bars. looked decent 81 240z, looked pretty complete engine wise, interrior really beat up though Phil?, Rick?, get yer tools.
  7. Another thing It took too long for me to figure out with my electric door locks. If you lock them from the inside and shut the drivers door, it doesn't lock. Try again, but hold up on the exterrior handle when shutting your door, then they lock.
  8. I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for helping me with my repairs. It was good to see the other junk yards too. kbd, hows the 4 wheel? did you go back to that dirt pile and show it who's boss
  9. I sent you a PM. I'll prolly just meet you guys at PnS, but head back to kbd's after the tour.
  10. welcome crazyman! As Jerry said the Allied Armament kit is pretty sweet. kingbobdole has one on his wagon, and their rims too, it's awesome. I know someone else has it on a sedan, check under the offroad board. On a seperate note, I don't see anyone jumping at the chance to instruct me on busting my knuckles during an axel swap. What's up with that! I'd like to do it this weekend if someone has an hour or so free.
  11. I'd be up for a little scroungin'! I hit PnS last Sun, grabbed an axel, alt, radio, and resistor pack. T'was a good day. I'm interested to see some other places though. On a seperate note, anyone want to supervise an axel change? I got one at PnS but it was half way taken apart and I still had to tear the front end apart to get it out. I don't want to have to do the same to my car to get it in. So anyone wanna help? I'm thinking of renting a pulling tool and breaker bar from Autozone to make it easier.
  12. WARNING: * Noobie asking what may be an obvious question * After searching about why my idiot / warning lights are coming on very dim when driving, and go back off when I rev the engine, I found out that I should replace my alternator. So I hit Pull n Save picked one up. Only the alternator I pulled has 2 pullies, and the one in my car has only 1. My car does have a/c, FYI. I checked the part numbers, both are from FHI, and the single pully ends in 000, and the dual ends in 020. Does anyone know if it's the same Alt with different pullies, or is there a voltage difference. So can I just swap these and not use the extra pully on the outside? Or do i have to swap the single pully onto the new Alt? Or do I need to go back and pick a new Alt.
  13. So it sounds like my thumping noise would be caused by a bad axel or something other than the ball joints / tie rod bushings that I found? Does this sound correct? The noise is progressing, I hear odd things more often from the front of the car. I just don't want to tear into it and replace an axel to find out the noise is still there. I think I'm going to try and get some tools to go to pull & save and see how things work and if this job is better suited more experienced.
  14. Is this still where we're meeting, and is there a specified time? I plan on being there, maybe around 11 or 12 so. I can bring some plates if needed. Anyone got a EA82 alternator? I think mines on it's way out. I'll be cruzing in my 92 sedan, full of squeaks, thumps, and rattles.
  15. I have not checked the axel nuts or washers. Do the nuts need to be checked with a torque wrench? All my cv boots look good, and I don't get any clicking. I don't want to rule out an axel, but what would other symptoms be? Is there a way to check the DOJ? So far all I have is the thumping that I've heard, and it has only reoccured once while driving 20 or so on the street. I don't want to keep driving 40 miles a day if this is dangerous, but I don't have the $ for a mechanic. How hard is it to replace the tie rod and ball joints? Do I need any special tools? I'm pretty much a beginner, but I'll try it if I have some instruction.
  16. So I got my sube up on jackstands to take a look around. Before I got under it I shook the tires, up and down and left and right. I did get some left to right play that made the steering wheel turn, but nothing on the individual wheel. The CV boots look good and feel good. I was able to twist the tie rods, you can see in the pic, so that may be an issue. The engine and trans mounts are still rubbery and in place. I shook the drive shaft, and it didn't move. I took off the wheels and think I found the problem. here is a link to the pics http://www.digitaltaffy.com/subaru.html Both of my rubber ball joint bushings are cracked, and one leaking. And one of my rubber tie rod bushings is cracked and leaking. Hopefully the pictures work and you can see what I'm talking about. Could this be whats making my 'thump thump thump' noise? It has reoccured but not consistantly. Is the repair just replacing the bushings by taking off the castle nuts and sliding the old one out and new one in? Any help is appreciated.
  17. I followed that wagon on 38th on Sat too! Can't put anything past the Denverites. Good thing we have a meet coming up to see who's drivin what.
  18. I downloaded the 89 FSM. I'd like a physical book as well(that pdf is way to much to print), so the Chilton will do until I can find/afford a FSM for my 92. Thanks though.
  19. I'm going to try my best to be at the meet, I just posted over on that thread. You said you're going to Western, what's that? Jerrry, we're practically neighbors! I'm just off 35th and Sheridan. How cool, small world.
  20. I'm just finding out about this whole meet up, so hopefully I can make it. I'm kind of a newbie, to the board, and to Subes. Food and a swap, sounds like a good time to me! I was going to buy a Haynes / Chiltons and some jack stands this weekend, would anyone be bringing this stuff for swap?
  21. I'm in NW Denver, By Sheridan and I-70. It's good to know there are lots more Denver/CO people here. I'll check out the thread about the meet, thx. I'm putting together a big ol' plan of action for repair and maintenance for my Sub. Besides changing the oil, I don't have a lot of mechanical experience, so hopefully there are some guru's in the area! I'm going to try and head to the Pull n Save of I-70 this weekend, for fun, to look around, whatever, anyone know what their selection is like?
  22. Just searching around to see who is in this area. I only found 3 users that are in Colorado, this can't be right. I see way too many Sub's in CO for this. So, who else is in Denver or surrounding areas, and what are you driving. I'm in NW Denver with a 92 loyale sedan, 4wd, 5spd. Let's see who else is out there!
