  1. you get igntion pulse from the coil - *thinks* the negative side? am not a car electronics guru, yet..... working on it.
  2. hmmmm, i will look in to that this morning. i am going to see the guy that i am buying the engine from, he should know. will let you know if i have any luck....
  3. the header pipes as i understand it were made from some mandrel bends welded together by the previous owner. he got sick of the factory headers cracking and leaking. the 3" dump pipe was also a custom job. after the CAT it has 2.5" pipe and high flow muffler. i will be picking up the motor in a couple of weeks coz it is still in his RX. photos will follow.... I drove the RX that the motor is currently in yesterday morning. it pulls hard on stock boost, and revs out really well. though compared to a webered EA82 with 290k km on the clock, ANYTHING revs and pulls hard... cheers
  4. i am moderately handy with a spanner... and will have some good resources at hand. could you be more specific in relation to the loom? the guy I am buying it all from is a electronics technician and is going wrap it up nicely and label it all for ease of installation.... have you done the conv? i will have to stick the puter somewhere and find a hole in the firewall to put the wiring through... how much wiring actually has to go through the f/w? cheers
  5. its a manual, I am thinking of leaving the current g/box there for a while, coz it should be able to handle the power of the ea82t in stock form. forgot to mention i will soon have an air-water i/c from a turbo legacy that has been modded to fit. i will run factory boost til i get used to it, then up it. i do have an electronic copy of the FSM on my puter. do you know of any issues people have had that i maybe able avoid... i didn't think this was a major conversion (compared to putting one in a MY wagon, or putting an EJ20T in a wagon), but hey, this is my first car and conversion.... cheers
  6. firstly g'day from australia, nice board and HEAPS of info.... but, i can't seem to find (despite using the search function) a definitive list of parts and potential problems involved with the aforementioned conversion. I have a EA82 GL wagon with a weber on it, and have just purchased the following: - EA82T with AFM, knock unit, loom and puter - HD clutch - RX gearbox - EFI fuel pump and lines - header pipes and 3" dump i will need to modify or buy a turbo x member, as well as a new exhaust. can anyone tell me more about what is involved in the swap? cheers fellas
  7. what current rating is an ER27 alternator? cheers
  8. Kuhmo 'Power Guard' MT (833 is the code here in Aust) come in 27" x 8.5" 14"s.
  9. I assume you used an EA82 manifold, if so there is the little hole with a small pipe sticking up beside the large hole where the fuel/air goes in. when I put the weber adaptor plate on with the gasket in between, it didn't quite seal it off and as a consequence water forced its way into the motor. to cut a long story short, I pulled it off again and blocked the hole with hard setting resin and put it back together. had a white exhaust for half an hour too. I am not a big fan of silicon either, I seen it mess up gaskets rather effectively. use a real liquid gasket sealant as well as the papers. the water at the back sounds like you haven't connected up one of the little hoses on the manifold. the poor idling sounds like a vacuum leak. I had to file off a little rise on the rhs of the manifold, coz it stopped the adaptor plate from sitting flush. hope that helps, as you can see I had a few problems when I did it!
  10. mine doesn't backfire, it just pops when I take the foot off the loud pedal and change gears. btw I have all of 60hp atw, last time I checked!!! the abv wooshes on mine too. I assume yours connects to the back of the manifold on the right ruby? it is an ULP EA81 you've got in your brumbles?
  11. hey man, my 90L wagon with a weber pops like that too, exactly as you described. I have blocked the air injection valve with welder. the little injector pipe joins on the left hand bank just where the header joins the block. still pops on changes. sounds kinda cool....
